Ever been livid watching a movie? I’m such a prig there is no shortage of movies that have gotten my red ass going, especially during my high school and college years (When Harry Met Sally, Thelma and Louise, Born on the 4th of July, and The Crying Game come to mind). But the first time I was angry watching a movie came much earlier, when I was ten-years old an my mom took me to see Chariots of Fire. God, that theme song, which was played on the radio for the longest, never failed to angry up the blood:
So: movie fury. Whadda ya hear, whadda say?
movies that made me want to punch a baby in the face:
Crash (don't get me started)
the last two Terminator movies (I blame myself)
Juno (ugh)
and on some level Forrest Gump. I don't hate it like some people, in fact I kinda enjoy it, but as nothing more than a 2 1/2 hour diversion...at its core its a hollow, judgmental, and mean movie that launched the shameful idea that The Byrds were a good band.
A.I. drove me bonkers, because of the superfluous 30-45 minutes at the end. The worst part - I enjoyed the beginning, and thought it would have been an OK movie if they had ended it at the right time! It was just so pointless by the time it was mercifully over.
That's the only one I can think of, though.
Planes Trains and Automobiles -- I almost left the theater. Since then it's become a favorite. I can't take any of those movies with elves and mystical stuff. I know, I'm missing out on a lot, but what can I tell you.
[1] Crash? Really? I'd like to hear the story behind that one :)
Don't remember a movie that has gotten me upset. Jeepers Creepers, maybe, because I thought it to be pretty stupid. But I was more annoyed than angry
[4] oh I hated it. Everything about it: the characters, the screenplay, the "message" behind it (which is what exactly? everyone is a little racist? sometimes stereotypes are true? I don't know what the hell its supposed to be), and the universal love it got after its release. God what a terrible movie.
And then it won Best Picture!! Of course it won!! It beat Brokeback Mountain!
[5] Sometimes I think the list of "should have won Best Picture" movies is larger than the list of "legitimately won Best Picture" movies.
Instead of Chariots of Fire you should have seen the "sequel" CHARIOTS OF EGGS by SCTV. Now that was cinema at its best.
I don't ever remember being angry at a movie. Bored? Confused? Disappointed? Sure. Lots. But angry? I don't remember - oh wait - yes I do.
Tim Burton's "Planet of the Apes" did indeed push the anger buttons. It was such a monumental let down that I do remember being pissed off about it afterwards, and giving my wife an earful on the ride home. What a waste of a movie night out.
[1] The Byrds aren't a good band. The Byrds are a GREAT band. One of the most important bands ever to come from these shores, without question.
Forrest Gump, on the other hand...meh.
I guess Barry Lyndon was the first. Saw it as a kid and even topless women & fighting couldn't save that clinker. Also, Air America & Prospero's Book.
i don't think i have ever been angry at a movie i have seen either. hated, didn't like, found stupid, boring, etc.
however, i have never seen titanic, but for some reason everything about that movie makes me angry.
[10] To be fair, Barry Lyndon is inappropriate viewing for kids. It's like asking an adult to watch Teletubbies for three hours. Or something.
Anyway I think I was angry with a few movies. Natural Born Killers springs to mind. I'll agree about Crash. Man there's a bunch. Anything with Juliette Binoche
[12] Natural Born Killers is incredibly awful
Like bp1, I almost never leave angry, but American Beauty did it for me. Sanctimonious millenial derivation of Mann's Buddenbrooks, complete with the surburban village substituting for the extended family and the descent into decadence already complete. No real humans, just caricatures.
[1] Forrest Gump made me want to vomit..horrnedous and offensive in everyway possible, one pf the prime examples of what's wrong with Hollywood.
Also can't stand anything with Meg Ryan, Drew Barrymore or Matthew Perry..in fact any fo the "Friends" makes me want to go Zambrano in the cinema..I'm a film snob fer sure...
[12] Yes, Natural Born Gratuitous Violence. Gag. However, Crash was great. Juno was fantastic--a real movie fan's movie. What's not to like about Juno? The 3rd installment of the new Star Wars series was absolutely dreadful. What a waste of industry.
The Railway Children, bloody awful film and in no way the correct last minute replacement for Dougal & The Blue Cat. Oh and the Exorcist, after all the hype, christ that was boring.
16) I thought Juno was self-conscious and completely unbelievable. Too in love with itself. I didn't hate it but I didn't cotten to it at all.
