92 at first pitch for the Mud Hens yesterday -- at 7:02 pm. Game was going well, with the storms passing us by, until top of the fifth when the heavens opened. Game got suspended, it's back on at 6 pm, followed by the regularly scheduled game.
Too damn hot out to do anything except lie on the couch, sip lemonade & watch the Bombers do their stuff.
It's really incredible that the Yankees once again find themselves in the position of having to rely on Sergio Mitre. He has been a pretty bad pitcher his whole career, yet the Yankees have no problem throwing away games with him on the mound. Disgraceful.
I feel bad for the fans making their only trip to the Stadium this year. Not only do they have to contend with the heat, but they wind up having to watch Mitre.
I agree, I would've given Nova a shot, although I guess Mitre was OK earlier in the year. Still, I don't get the obsession with flotsam and jetsam this year- Moseley, Gaudin, Mitre, Park, etc. when better options are in the minors. Wayne Franklin, where have you gone?
[40] I agree...I am not saying they should make a big trade, but we know that just about anyone is better than Mitre. Unfortunatley, the Yankees don't realize this.
It's also incredible that they demoted Albaledejo, but kept Mosely and Park.
[43] Well, he only struck out 2 of 3 batters faced yesterday. I really don't think it does anyone any favors when a guy performs and is demoted in favor of junk.
[43] Wow. I hadn't heard that. Awesome. Although I understand why. Once you've made the decision to start the Meat Tray, you have to keep Moseley around to back him up in case he performs like, well, like he's done today and they're obviously not ready to cut bait on Humperdink, even though they ought to have done it a month ago.
Sergio Mitre's presence on this team is shameful. These are the times I wish the old George was still around. He'd at least issue an apology and probably give every fan in attendance a rain check.
[64] hey thelarmis - yeah i have been absent from the banter for the last couple of weeks. my mom is visiting and we went to london and paris and just got back last night. we were watching the game in london at the hotel when andy hurt himself. espn america is quite a lovely thing.
i had a really nice time but am glad to be back even if it is africa hot in nyc.
and yes, the sme is a dark, cold, miserable place.
[69] sounds like a wonderful trip! yeah, i remember watching the '02 WS in a london hotel. i don't think espn america was around then. it was nearly impossible to find the game or any info on it anywhere.
your vacation with your mom was much more extravagant than mine with mine. me madre came to atlanta and we basically just relaxed. fun, nonetheless!
yeah, it's like triple digits here in the deep south. i'm timorous about going to my studio, 'coz i think the A/C might still be out. if so, it'll be brutal in that sweat box...
Kay, o'neill and Singleron are talking about long HRs, and someone mentioned the one that Jay Buhner hit in the old stadium that hit the ambulance in the runway in left field, beyond monument park. I was at that game...hardest hit ball I have seen.
stupid hot out here in NW NJ.
chilling with my boys on the lake today with the Lumpy & Chuckles Show on the New York Yankees Radio Network.
Humid and 91 here, so I'm sipping some iced coffee and staying pretty still.
I've already been to the dentist (in Brooklyn) and back. In my AC apt. for the rest of the day.

#600 today.
OK, why only the KC feed for the game today?
I wonder if YES will mention the damage to the video board from last night's storm.
Ah, there's the YES feed.
Time for the Sergio Mitre Experience.
Meat-tray very "unlucky" to start on such a hot day. ; )
I'm exhausted just watching this.
Looks like we are going to be treated to another unlucky game from Sergio Mitre.
24 GIDPs, and we're not even in August.
Well this sucks.
I think all three of those pitches to Butler were strikes!
Thanks, Jorge.
More great defense from Posada.
(I mean, the first three, that he took.)
That was a poor throw by Alex. Kinda like the bad one he had to Jeter at third the other night. : (
[16] It wasn't great, but still an easy play for Posada. Poor Jorge....
Damn chump was lucky to get out of it allowing just two. Dude! It's hot out there, pick up the pace, throw strikes, damn you.
So, with Cervelli catching Mitre probably gets out of that mess with no runs.
Gardner out due to acid reflux ...
http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/news/story?id=5406692
[19] Well, the sac fly still would've likely went down, right?
[21] But I meant Podsednik wouldn't have stolen third on Frankie. Grounder to A-Rod just an easy out at third. Etc.
I know, I know, fallacy of blah blah blah.
Wow ... that was NOT a swing
Meat-tray very “unlucky” to start on such a hot day.
Meat Trays left out in the sun are not a pretty sight ...
"Specially Marked Balls" would make a good handle.
[25]
LOL
[25]
Or "600 Balls"
[24] Ugh. I think I just became a vegetarian.
[28]
And if Meat Tray bobbles a bunt, it would be scored "E. coli"
Honestly I wanted to see the replay of Teixeira's "swing" more than the A Rod hype
[28] If you aren't now, just wait until you see what happens after another couple of innings!
Anyone else been watching the games on MLB.tv recently?
Anybody else understand when I say I'm about ready to hunt down "The Colony" and slaughter every single inhabitant?
That's better. Now how about some runs guys.
If a Meat-Tray is left to stink in the sun and no one is around to banter about it, does it really exist?
The price for Haren is going way up....
Mmmm ... rotting Meat Tray ...
Dan Haren, come on down!
Isn't it sad that we have this big stinking rotting meat tray, and no Vulture around to enjoy it?
It's really incredible that the Yankees once again find themselves in the position of having to rely on Sergio Mitre. He has been a pretty bad pitcher his whole career, yet the Yankees have no problem throwing away games with him on the mound. Disgraceful.
Maybe if I close my eyes & take a nap I can pretend this is all a bad dream.
[38] Actually it's worse than that, they're choosing to put themselves in a position to throw games away with Meat Tray.
They could have brought Nova up.
He might not be a world beater, but a) he's fully stretched out as a starter and b) he's *NOT* a rotting Meat Tray.
Oh goody, Moseley's up. Another wasted roster spot.
I feel bad for the fans making their only trip to the Stadium this year. Not only do they have to contend with the heat, but they wind up having to watch Mitre.

Yanks have to score in this inning....they really only have four hitters in this lineup.
Every time a great play is made in the field by a player he leads off the next half inning with a homer. : )
Gotta be a hit.
[43] Well, he only struck out 2 of 3 batters faced yesterday. I really don't think it does anyone any favors when a guy performs and is demoted in favor of junk.
Fuck. Great play.
That's not helpful when you are trying to come back from a six run deficit.
Day-um.
[45] It's the "As So Often Happens" principle, discussed by Roy Blount, Jr. in SI some years ago. (But I'm pretty sure it was the April 1st issue.)
That double play was huge.
Meanwhile, CLETUS!!!
Betancourt saved a huge inning, but with Mitre likely to continue in the game, it doesn't really matter.
hi team - just got back from a nice vacation last night and am welcomed back to the sme.
[55] Hi Ms. Oct!
Yes, it certainly is the sme.
[56] hi there. yes, jesus christ that ball was drilled.
Oh fer FUCK'S SAKE, get that stinking Meat Tray OFF THE MOUND.
Sergio Mitre's presence on this team is shameful. These are the times I wish the old George was still around. He'd at least issue an apology and probably give every fan in attendance a rain check.
I feel that Mitre's babib (batting average on balls in bleachers) is awfully high. That's widely thought to be pure luck, right?
jesus christ. i thought these guys were only allowed to hit singles. : /
sergio is 7 runs unlucky...
oh, and good morning, everyone.
[59] And order Mitre's immediate release.
[55] yay! i've been meaning to ask about you here lately. seems like we hadn't heard from you round these parts for awhile. i was starting to worry...
hope the sun wasn't too strong in sme!
[64] The sme is a dark, cold place.
[65] is the sme worse than the grue?
[65] oh good, so i can go. i'd prolly love it there!
[27] ancient chinese proverb:
baseball all wrong. man with 4 balls cannot walk!
[42] flotsam and jetsam = great band! they'll have a new album out soon, "The Cold". their heyday, however is long gone...
[64] hey thelarmis - yeah i have been absent from the banter for the last couple of weeks. my mom is visiting and we went to london and paris and just got back last night. we were watching the game in london at the hotel when andy hurt himself. espn america is quite a lovely thing.

Sado is one of only 5 catchers in mlb history to amass 250 HR, 350 2B & 1,000 RBI.
bench, fisk, carter, pudge and po!
double play derek strikes again : /
hmm, tex is single-handedly trying to counteract the sme
[69] sounds like a wonderful trip! yeah, i remember watching the '02 WS in a london hotel. i don't think espn america was around then. it was nearly impossible to find the game or any info on it anywhere.

TEX!!! he go BOOM! getting that SLG up there.
Man, the pre-homer GIDPs have cots us a bundle of runs.
[75] That's taking into acount MK's FOTPDO. : )
[73] yeah we had a really good time and trip. that's nice that you got some relaxation time with your mom.
so other than andy getting hurt anything major happen with the yankees' players the last week or so?
Ooooh, Farnsworth!
krazy kyle.
c'mon tims, get us within a run here...
[76] Exactly. If MK says it's a fallacy, that's good enough for me.
These pitches to Pena strikes?
Ramiro Peña, ladies and gentlemen.
Kay, o'neill and Singleron are talking about long HRs, and someone mentioned the one that Jay Buhner hit in the old stadium that hit the ambulance in the runway in left field, beyond monument park. I was at that game...hardest hit ball I have seen.
Wow, Dustin Moseley.
9 outs to get 4 runs. Let's Go Yankees!
[83] I remember that. Was off Wade Taylor, IIRC
[85] dude. i was gonna post like that exact same things! great minds and all : )
i really like granderson, but man, he's killin' me at the plate...
do it again, tex!
[88] I agree. But I will keep the faith that he'll turn it around and get on a nice hot streak.
Mosely seems a little luckier than Mitre today.
mosely is moseying right along, mowing them down!
[90] It's because of his BABIB, which I'm sure is not sustainable for either pitcher.
92) see, when I show up late really need to look through the whole game thread. There's usually so much education there!
Hey, Swish!
Pie?
I love pie. I'm even kind of irrational about pie.
Pinch "hitter" Juan Miranda, ladies and gentlemen.
Okay, so, just to say what absolutely everyone is thinking: if Teixeira gets on... wow.
But it was not to be.
Damn. Soclose.
well, that kinda sucked. i really wanted to sweep them. as silly as it sounds, tomorrow is now sort of a must win...
YES-Mo says he was SAFE. Very close, but indeed safe.
100) it does sound silly. Explain?
[102] ah, i just wanna win the series. ya know? go 5-1 on the week. rather not split the series with the royales. thazzall...
oh, and i'm silly!
103) Got it.
Silly is good!
Yanks got JimJoyced. Ah well, I've got a Mud Hens suspended game (Hens up 6-0 after 4) and a regularly scheduled game. More baseball for me.
[103] The Royales.
So, Soria is a Royale with cheese!
[106] I'll take a Big Kahuna. Now that is one tasty burger. : )
