October is thataway, son.
The Yanks look to continuing pushing their weight around tonight against the A’s.
AJ Burnett has been, well, AJ Burnett. Looking for him to turn it around. Why not start now?
Let’s Go Yan-Kees!

As I've said before, I think Burnett is worse than his usual self
4 pitch walk?
Good, AJ got Cust out, otherwise he'd get cussed out.
Well that 's good. But AJ still has not had a 1,2.3 first inning in a coon's age.
Yay, a Jeterian hit!
Smoke 'em if you got 'em, Teix!
1,2,3 10 pitch inning by AJ & a Jeter hit in the same game?
Explain Mark Teixeira. How can he so hot in the heat of the summer, and so cold in the spring? Sun angles? Sticky humid nights? Arod was keeping him down? Rag Weed Pollen is the magic elixer? No more late nights helping the kids with homework during the summer break? No oysters in the summer? He is a natural hitter, and should not take 3 months to get up to speed. Folks here were ready to demote him to the bottom of the order. His glove was worth problaby 10 victories this year, so patience is worth it, but his slow starts are monumental.
Alright, Joe. Throw down the double steal sign here.
Yikes. Don't break an ankle, Captain.
Hustle!
This time Jeter employed a little Gardneresque hit em' where they are tactic.
The shine will wear off soon enough, but I right now I like Nuñez about ten million times more than Peña.
En fuego
[13]I like all our tildes, and the nasalization it brings
Is this real life?
So, Moeller was called up...but he wasn't on the forty man roster. Who got the axe?
[17] Marte to 60-day DL, he's already been out that long, so no big deal.
[16] Back to reality.
18) I didn't figure any move would be a big deal...just curious. I had heard that some or other injured MiLer would take the fall, but I am not at all surprised that Aceves was moved off the roster. The end of his season was, sadly, pretty predictable when he went down earlier this year.
[20] Damaso Marte, not Aceves.
What's going on in this game thread? Is anybody alive out there?
[20] Aceves, by they way, seems on indefinite rehab in Trenton due to poor performance. Girardi said before the game that he's essentially re-doing spring training at this point and just isn't ready yet. He's getting lit up and he's running out of mL season to get straight.
I'm following, just trying not to think about AJ's struggles....
Cliffster!
Well, AJ doing well, until now, not so much.
LOL
Missed it bythatmuch
I love how pissed off Eiland looks most of the time, like he's a real no-nonsense guy.
[21] I'm mostly chilling on the couch. Have to get up to come over to comment. Not as easy to do since I threw my back out 4 weeks ago.
Huzzah.
27, I feel you on that one, bro. Been in a similar boat.
21) whoops...not reading carefully at all. i guess Marte got Loganed, huh?
[21]] What am I? Chopped Meat Tray?
[29] Thanks. Got to set up an appointment to start physical therapy. Plus my FAI (what A-Rod has) is acting up again. Sucks getting older.
Now if you'll excuse me, the damn kids are on the lawn again.
Rays had the bases loaded but the Blue Jays escaped on a nail biting 1- be putout. The batter squibbed it about 7 feet in front of the plate and the pitcher raced in to get it before the flip to home 1-1. End of 5.
[33] Where'd my 2 go? That should be a 1-2 putout.
Pitchers lose velocity pretty much from the time they hit the majors ...
"....... the pitcher raced in to get it before the flip to home 1-1."
Man... that is one fast dude!
Also, after I proclaimed the BoSox dead a couple of weeks ago, they took some advantage of the Yankees and Rays treading water. But now we can pretty much declare them dead, right?
[36] Paige liked to say that Bell was “so fast he can turn off the light and be in bed before the room gets dark!
One of my favorites.
[38] Buck O'Neil's book has the origin of that tale..great stuff.
Sad that 3 ER in 6 from AJ seems like an accomplishment..
Mark Kram Sr wrote a great piece on Bell for SI. Should be somewhere in their archives.
[39] It is, by modern standards, a quality start. Gibson would consider it a crappy start. I wonder how many QS he had in his career.
was that a called strike?
The called strike 2 on Jeter was definitely a ball.
97 MILES AN HOUR!
/mk'ed
[44] Good thing he doesn't call NASCAR.
OK.... it's been 10 minutes. Time for someone to post a comment.
This is a few days late but I think Thames looks like Tracy Morgan. Goofy looking mugs.
It must be the boring A's, the sultry night, and first place? Jays Rays still tied at 1.
How come William doesn't post when the Yankees are winning?
[46] Baby Powder much more effective than Speed Stick to keep you cool and fragrant in this endless summer heat.
Boone is in the house. Remember in the early part of the season we were calling him Boo Losing, or something to that effect?
So, [3] now Boone gets cussed out!
Hi folks.
I had to go to a kids soccer meeting. (I mean, there were no kids at the meeting, but it was about kids soccer.) I hate meetings. But, whatayagonnado?
Is it me, or have we had more stories this year in regards to the coaches making adjustments in order to improve a player? Swisher. Granderson. JV (fingers crossed). Wood's recent revival..
Ellis, you're a punk!
Cervelli was 12 when Wood made his ML debut. : )
Nice fact from Dave O'Brien:
This is the fortieth time in franchise history that the Yankees have entered September in first place. The other 39 they also finished the season in first place.
Dang, Kerry, dig in, bro.
Hey, Mo is warming!
Marco Scutaro's 2-run homer ties the game.
Lester had a rotten beginning, but picked up speed and dominated later.
Well that was exciting.
Some tension is good,
I still like Kerry Wood.
[57] Yes, and you practice what you preach -- that comma really left us trembling for the next installment!
No Knock on Wood,
Hit one in the seats, Lance.
[60] Your period key doesn't work, huh?
[61] Almost.
[61] Ya bum. That woulda been in the bullpen.
Is everyone watching ESPN? Or is the game also on YES?
Uh oh. That was very, very stupid.
That ump called the same 3 pitches 2 balls and a strike. Jorge Red Ass!
Oh, Chad Moeller. Okay.
[67] It was way, way outside. Not close.
For Fuck's Sake. A line drive up the middle and Jeter still can't get a hit or ribbie.
Hm, and I'm thinking maybe Jeter beat that one out. Couldn't tell on the replay, but very close.
Jorge, he ain't always so asmart.
[69] I agree. But there were 2 other pitches in the ab the ump missed. Whatever. Jorge just being Jorge. (ala Manny)
Yeah, that was a bs call, Dana needs to get his eyes checked.
But Jorge was scrood.
[71] He was out on the replay.
C'mon Mo!
CoCo crisped!
Good hands!
Yeah, baby. Best fielder on the team.
The Old Bull Fighter! Nice Stab, Mo!
Man, Barton is an OBP machine, huh?
Look all you want, D. That was strike two.
[82] He is. Also Cust.
Get ready for the outside heater. Trying to freeze him....
Drat.
Damnit
Inches.
Good job by Barton anticipating that pitch....
Okay, strike one to Suzuki.
Strike two was not fair. Just not a strike.
Jorge helped get that strike.
This ump's tripping.
Ooh. I want to see strike two again.
Steady, Mo, Steady....
[92] Ummm. From the clubhouse?
Shit. Big stolen base.
Hate to see that. Hate it. Damn it.
Okay, just get Suzuki. Here we go.
I wish the OF would play up three steps or four here...
Got to go inside here.
[96] Shook Damuth up.
Right idea...
This is going nowhere good
Thanks be to Mo.
Fucking Onions.
[103] Nevermind
Have I ever mentioned that I like having Mariano Rivera?
All Rise!
A's are good medicine.
In. Mo. We. LUST!
[103] Thanks for the anti-jinx!
[101] Oh, that's what you meant! I thought maybe Moeller framed it and you forgot...
Mo is my favorite great athlete of all time.
Our hopes lay with John Buck
John Buck failed.
Mo fa'sho! 33 over .500. The mystery year continues.
You have no idea how much I hope that all these people that wait for the last out in the Great Hall get stuck in traffic.
Wow, that is some nasty shiz in Miami. Ugly.
[114] One should never leave a Yankee game early. It does no good, and there is always something interesting not to miss.
And now, they got this train that makes my town in 15 minutes. I will never drive to YS again.
So anything short of a sweep is a disappointment at this point, right?
[115} What happened?
[118] Nyjer Morgan.
He blasted the Marlins' catcher on a play at home (he was out, and plainly would have been safe had he slid). So next at bat they bean him.
So, down 14-3, he steals second, then steals third. So next time up the pitcher throws behind his butt. So he charges the mound, gets a pretty good cross to the pitcher's face, and is clotheslined by the first baseman. (I have no idea who these Marlins are, sorry.) Bench clearing brawl.
Of course, the Nats have come back and now it's 14-10. But that dude is trouble. And probably in trouble, too.
[117] at this point yes, going in 3 wins looked great. The last 5 or 6 weeks the bullpen must be flirting with some era record right? I mean, it's been really sick. I remember a solo shot that Joba gave up, some stuff against the Chisox in those 1st two games but when it has been really tight, the bullpen has been lights out or I am nuts????
[119] Thanks for that. It does sound appalling.
[119] Why would they throw at him again because he stole two bases though? Nats still in the game..
[122] Hard to know, I only saw the 'highlight'. But it didn't seem like they were "in the game" at the time, trailing 14-3.
I never understood the "unwritten rule" against stealing bases.
[124] That's for the team that's ahead..Nats were losing when he stole.
I don't understand a LOT of unwritten rules. Maybe if they would write them down, they could read them and realize they don't make a lick of sense....
[126] Of course. That's probably why they'll stay unwritten.
