have not seen, nor smelled the Rotten Apple since August 21. Can't say I'm missing it. Haven't enjoyed this many consecutive days off in a decade.
Alas The Summer of Sliced ends September 7.

Off to the lake, and an ice cream run with my sons. We'll be following CC and the Boys on the Lumpy & Chuckles Show on the New York Yankees Radio Network.

Go Yanks! Go Banter!

Off to the dentist for a tooth cleaning. I expect the Yankees to be up 7-0 when I get back.

from lohud:

UPDATE, 2:02 p.m.: Jack Curry of YES reports that Swisher appeared to injure his left knee. He had hurt it back in Toronto and looked to be laboring as he ran.

17 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 2, 2010 2:13 pm

what happened to Swish?

18 RIYank   ~  Sep 2, 2010 2:14 pm

[16] You mean in Posada's "Base Running for Dummies" class?

19 ms october   ~  Sep 2, 2010 2:16 pm

[18] yes, prefer to think of it as "jorgie posada's base running academy," but i think "base running for dummies" sums it up nicely.

[17] stiff left knee.

[18] i loved your catch of will's dangling participle last nite. my mom would be proud. also, [7] rules.

[22] Shades of "Fire Joe Morgan!"!

24 RIYank   ~  Sep 2, 2010 2:23 pm

Four innings of working Braden hard, and now this 7 pitch inning extends his life. Maddening.

25 RIYank   ~  Sep 2, 2010 2:28 pm

I gotta go.
Please ensure that CC gets a CG. And a W.

26 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2010 2:28 pm

[22] yeah, i did! i dug it, 'coz i dig Mose Allison. i can see him being a future "beat of the day" post for alex.

[23] i wish FJM did another daylong cameo appearance this season.

has braden gotten the bronx business today? any placards telling him to get the fuck off our mound?

[21] teaching. and busy prepping for my upcoming studio session. it'll be crunch time soon, so i'll prolly disappear more...

did jeter get hit by a pitch or did gameday make that up? I'm trying to figure out why Grandy hit a solo homer when jeter was on first.

[31] hbp. caught stealing.

[32] [33] thanks guys! my internet actually went down right after i posted that lol

48 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2010 3:10 pm

[43] nice! honestly, i had feelings for both his shots. i shoulda typed it here, got my nostra magik back. oh well, i'm just glad we've got a 4-run lead! that's 17 for the Grandyman.

oh, and A-Rod apparently left Scott Boras via a letter he sent him a month and a half ago...

49 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 2, 2010 3:12 pm

[48] Who's his agent now?

50 rbj   ~  Sep 2, 2010 3:17 pm

OK, I wanted 7-0, but I'll take 4-0

51 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2010 3:17 pm

this snippet is from the mlbtr post:

Pittsburgh attorney Jay Reisinger and Washington lawyer Jim Sharp now represent Rodriguez, according to USA Today.

---------

sounds weird to me, for a sports agent. is there a semantics difference between "attorney" and "lawyer"? (please forgive my ignorance!) alex is under contract til he's 42, so i'm not sure how large this looms. off the field ventures, i guess, but i thought he had some fancy hotshot for that. anyway...

i doesn't like the hbp to lead off the inning...

52 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 2, 2010 3:20 pm

Uh ... C.C. =! Cruise Control right now ...

53 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2010 3:21 pm

settle down, big bear.

hbp/bb to lead off teh 8th...

54 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2010 3:26 pm

atta boy, very large man!

55 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 2, 2010 3:29 pm

[51] The fancy hotshot Guy Oseary is no longer handling Arod's off field activities (remember that GQ spread?). He is Madonna's manager.

With Arod's image sullied, I don't think he is getting much in the way of endorsements. He'll have to live on his baseball salary of 30$M a year.

Nice recovery from CC! Love that big guy!

56 RIYank   ~  Sep 2, 2010 3:34 pm

I'm back.
Very, very nice job, guys. (Incl. Ms. Oct in "guys".)

57 RIYank   ~  Sep 2, 2010 3:36 pm

[51] First, there is no real difference between "attorney" and "lawyer". There once was. A nice old distinction was that "attorney" mean a legal representative. So, you would not often say, "I am an attorney" but rather "I am A-Rod's attorney". But this distinction is gone now. I think it's because lawyers liked calling themselves "attorneys".

Second, I've often thought that a player would be better off just having a lawyer who's good at negotiating rather than a sports agent. For one thing, the lawyer would be much, much cheaper.

58 rbj   ~  Sep 2, 2010 3:37 pm

Steve Tolleson? Any relation to Wayne? Both are from Spartanburg SC.

59 RIYank   ~  Sep 2, 2010 3:40 pm

Why did Braden leave the game? I missed that part. His pitch count was low and he only gave up one run.

60 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 2, 2010 3:41 pm

[59] Looked like he pulled a groin muscle, and left immediately.

61 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 2, 2010 3:43 pm

64 RIYank   ~  Sep 2, 2010 3:51 pm

[60] [61] That's a damn shame.
</irony>

65 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 2, 2010 3:54 pm

Nice, easy, uneventful series sweep of the A's. Boring can be good.

What's the team winning percentage without Arod in the lineup? Something like .800?

66 seamus   ~  Sep 2, 2010 3:54 pm

[32] [33] thanks guys! my internet went down there. just came back online!

67 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 2, 2010 3:57 pm

[66] see [47]. Your internet must have been up momentarily.

68 rbj   ~  Sep 2, 2010 3:58 pm

Nice win. And Giants play tonight (even if it is just preseason)

69 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 2, 2010 4:01 pm

Sweeps are nice, ain't they?

70 RIYank   ~  Sep 2, 2010 4:04 pm

[65] Higher. I think they're 19-3 without him.

71 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2010 4:13 pm

[69] yes, as they imply "chops"! it's a musical thing... there are certain fills on a drumkit that are soooo cool and they're called "sweeps" (at least, i call them that!). then, there are "sweep arpeggios" on the guitar and they are all kindsa awesome. so are the baseball kind! : )

72 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2010 4:18 pm

[71] i also have a bass drum technique that i call "The Flip", so perhaps i'm clouding my 2 loves - drums & baseball! : )

[beer & blondes don't tie into this post...]
