No matter what happens in this game, I'm glad it's not going to keep me up so ****ing late.
Ah, man. 30 minutes of sitting in a meeting in front of my computer machine before I can race home and rant like a lunatic. Good guys in seven.
Go Yankees!
looks like the first couple of hours on the iphone at work. should be interesting. also, i fully expect the trolls in full force today, especially if we are losing.
So, losing Tex hurts in most ways. But the way he was hitting, our lineup might actually be better today. I know that sounds weird to say and without a doubt we'll miss his fielding. He's clearly got an issue where he presses in pressure situations. He needs to find a way to relax in those instances. His playoff stats with us are dismal.
I'm getting that feeling that I'm going to be a very unhappy man in about four hours.
Which might be a good thing because I've had good feelings about the past three games
Let's Go YANKEES
who killed tangerine
[7] DAMNIT I meant to do this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKrGlBL4I4c
Bob Sheppard would have been 100 today, and the Mick would have been 79.
[9] wow. Happy Birthday Bob and Mick. It would have been cool if Bob could have made it to #100.
9) WOW, awesome
I don't want AJ Burnett with his head in his hands to be the lasting memory of this season
i'm apparently 15 seconds behind i think. that sucks
Oh boy
I was offered free tickets to go today by 2 different people ... couldn't make it. Maybe just as well.
Ugh.
15) NO WAY! Yanks are winning today!
that was a discouragingly loud yankees sucks chant there.
Cripes this place is empty
yeah the DP boys!
Hey, guys.
i totally missed that hamilton got a hit.
[22] It seems to happen fast these last few days.
Help us Obi Wan Cano, you're our only hope.
They haven't been hitting in a long time.
Ah, I see the Yankees' plan: wait out the opposing starter and then hand over a 0-0 game to a very well rested Mariano Rivera.
it's bad when even robbie is sucking.
[25] But they're well rested
I'mnot giving up, but everything seemed different with the Teixera injury.
Ian Kinsler has child bearing hips.
[29] Not to yank your chain, but what exactly feels different? Every time I look up during this series, it seems, a Ranger is on base or a guy in pinstripes is grounding out weakly.
CC doesn't appear to have much going for him today.
[30] I love a relevant comment.
[31] What he said
[30] It was funny--I'm not being snotty.
[31] The sense that we could come back. It just felt different. The stadium sounded different, too. Could just be me, but it felt different.
[36] The stadium was in shock, no doubt, but the three-run bomb is what changed things in that game.
[31] Not that the injury is why they're losing or anything. They'r elosing because they haven't gotten hits with men in scoring position.
Ah, and now the Ron Washington hagiography begins.
[37] Yes, I agree. I'm not saying the injury makes a difference, just that it took the wind out of my and other fans' sails.
[36] i totally concur
Alright, I've made it to my lucky bar ... LET'S GO YANKEES!!!
Washington is proof that when the players execute, not even a crappy manager can louse it up. So is our 2009 WS win. Yes, I think Girardi is a total hack, but if the Yankees hit, it doesn't matter.
Sabathia is...passable.
that's how you do it cc!
[43] These days, managing is all about soothing egos. If any team ever had a manager who knew strategy, they'd win an extra 10 games.
Sabathia is .... possibly hurt? (un-CC-like performances in the playoffs)
Frankly, I've got a whole lot more confidence in Berkman, from both sides of the plate than I did in Teix by last night ...
[43] Honestly, Girardi always struck me as being extremely bright, and by all indications he is. But I find myself cringing at some of the things he says to the media, and he manages at about the same brain activity level it seems. I don't know if that makes sense. Like today, he was talking about he looked into his players eyes and they're ready to go, and it just sounded so stupid.....
Good, glad A-Rod isn't chasing garbage.
[46] What's funny is it seems most of the keen strategic minds have personality disorders (e.g. Billy Martin).
See also Brenly, Bob 2001
Good stuff Thames!
[49] I think Girardi is a fairly smart guy who is wound way too tight and hence overthinks situations and makes horrible decisions. He's also dishonest with the media and fans.
[52] I'll never forget him saving Curt Schilling for a game 7 in 2001 during a game 4 that would've put them up 3-1. Losing a battle for a war, eh?
Wilson loose the strike zone?
[49] I'm only half kidding when I say he outsmarts himself constantly. He seems overly concerned with doing the unexpected most of the time, like we play in a port where the opposing manager doesn't have plenty of time to react or something.
That looked like it was gonna be closer
a clutch hit!
[54] Great analysis. Reminds me of the first multiple choice test I took in college, I thought every question had a trick behind it, over-thought and second-guessed EVERYTHING, and bombed it. Luckily I adjusted...
Good stuff A-Rod, and Jorge!
I still don't know why Miranda wasn't added to the roster...but Berkman has been holding his own despite having to bat RHP.
Bad send but it works out!!
My man Posada!
Halleulujah!
Little Keystone Kops going on
Woo!!!
Air Mail service provided by the Texas Rangers.
I thought Berkman, and then Posada, were dead to rights on that one...
Every decision to advance was bad, and every one of them worked out! The worm is turning.
I'm not sure that's a complete analysis of Girardi. There are times when he uses certain rules that I think are just nuts. At times like that, he needs to think more case by case. Like his tendency to change pitchers between innings.
[61] Never really been a fan of Miranda. Feels like a Cuban Andy Phillips
[64] Or do you mean:
http://tinyurl.com/rb3o4u
[67] They should have had Posada twice
[70] A Cuban Andy Phillips. That's funny.
Posada was not hustling home at all. I mean, he's slow, but geez.
[70] Not a big fan either, but what does Nuñez give them? Another PR to play behind Golson and Peña?
Sigh. They always sucker me back in.
Made it home just in time to see that circus. Wow.
Jorge shouda been thrown out 2x. : )
[72] The man has magic feet.
I don't think Miranda is much, he just has more use than Núnez.
[75] I'm not sure thats not more than Miranda has to offer.
I keep thinking of the old Mariano Duncan '96 mantra: "We play today, we win today. 'Das it."
LOVE the new Foster's commercial by the way. OY!
[81] He hit .340 that year,. didn't he?
[82] Are a lot of Australians Jewish?
[83] He did indeed - of course, he only walked 9 times, so his OBP was only .352. He did have a big hit against Texas though, didn't he?
[54] I think Girardi is a great manager. Sometime during the off-season I might even be willing to debate that. But honestly, it's become a meme around here that his decisions are bad and most of that criticism is, in my opinion, subjective.
almost...
That feels like a big play
[84] I use it in the the Irish-Scottsh-Australian context as opposed to the Jewish context. Like the commercial.
[86] I think if he occasionally ran the pinch runners he put it, I'd feel much different.
I'm fickle.
[86] I'd be happy to listen to your views on the subject.
Then, you meant 'Oi'.
[89] It's just an attention-getter, like 'Yo!'?
Sabathia is huge. He's his own mound.
This is the same Texas Rangers team that brought Sidney Ponson into that clubhouse
The new stolen base strategy might be a good one. With 2 outs, just let them steal, don't throw it away.
Yes!
This seems harder than it should be
did andurs just steal 3rd with 2 outs and hamilton up? dumb
[96] I'm with you. focus on the batter, that's all.
Andrus seems to own us. Anything he does,,,ugh!
[98] Yeah, but it's 3-0 and (without too much irony) Mo is rested. If CC can muscle through 4 or even 3 more innings, they're gonna be OK today.
BOOM!
Make that 4-0...
[102] Correction:
Yeah, but it’s
3-04-0 and (without too much irony) Mo is rested. If CC can muscle through 4 or even 3 more innings, they’re gonna be OK today.CORNFLAKE!!!!!
DOUBLE BOOM.
Rocket Robbie. MVP!
RIPPER!!!
Back-to-back rally-killers. My mind is blown.
[105] Need another edit!
THE BEAST AWAKENS!
I LOVE THIS SHIT!
With a bigger lead now, maybe they can ride CC a little deeper into the game.
[109] how do you kill a rally that's already dead?
[110]
; )
I remember that song "Dead rallies aren't much fun ..."
Btw, this center field camera view on the iphone is hilarious. because it follows the hitter, never the ball or anyone else. So I'm basically watching swisher run fast and thinking that must not be a homerun or he'd be jogging...
[114] Exactly. It's like trying to calculate Pi or contemplate infinity, or locate Gardner's position and velocity at the same time.
This. This is what we needed to see, the bats coming alive!
[118] well said.
Has anyone seen Teix in the dugout? Just curious....
Keep it coming boys
Damn. MIssed the home runs because someone at work called me.
[121] Is he with the team? I'd think he's getting medical attention still.
[124] For a strain?
"C.C. Sabathia's got a cushion." Hey, don't get personal.
[125] Could be. I'm no expert. It's only the day after.
[125] Or just rest, anyway.
I swear I thought this before the Yanks started scoring, but this is kind of fun. I gnashed my teeth and all that up to game time but now I feel loose. Once you stare into the abyss of elimination in theory, the actual thing in the game seems a lot less dire.
I mean I'd be singing a different tune if they were getting blown out I guess but I liked the back-against-the-wall feeling when the game got underway.
It just seems like everything's gravy now, cause I already went through the grieving process, so to speak.
I'm trying to put this tactfully.
If I worked for central casting and was asked to find a 30 year old drug addict, I'd come back with Josh Hamilton. He just has that "look"
Afternoon, everyone. Just back from work, and it looks like the Score Truck finally showed up. How does CC look so far?
Ouch.....
Oh Jesus.
fock
[129] Yeah, you have a point.
Holy moly. Now this?
what's happening???
Yep, Nuñez is looking really useful now.
For Fuck's sake. Holy Hockey wipe-out.
Did some idiot spill his beer over there? Wow. I've never seen that.
who is hurt? gameday just says "injury delay"
Good thing Elvis had some padding back there...
[137] Lance Berkman just took a pratfall. I don't want to use that ter, because it wasn't funny, (well, maybe a little) but I really think thats the best description
[141] Berkman went after a foul ball popup and his legs went out from under him like he hit ice. It was kind of rough.
[130] Wow, really?
The Reds and Rangers beat writers said they thought he looked like a central casting baseball player. Like an ideal ball player. They went on about it so much I kinda wondered about their sexual orientation.
Berkman slipped in a very odd way trying to catch a foul ball. Wiped out.
Berkman but seems to be ok now
Lance just banged the back of his head while trying to grab a foul pop. He slipped on the rubbery dirt out there. He's still out there, but head injuries have a funny way of getting worse as time goes by.
ugh, well my immediate concern was that it was cc or cano. so i'll take it.
There's your Teixeira sighting.
[140] Then you must have missed the Phils fan who leaned over the 3rd base side rail for a foul ball last week and puked on the field.
[143] I think the three terms for types of falls used in stunts are "pratfall," "108" and "stiffback," and Berkman's would qualify as a prattfall. IIRC.
[151] Weeeelllll..... yeah, there's that too!
Odd they were just talking about their shoes, and all of the sudden Lance's rubber cleats become a story.
isn't there a way to stream radio free online? when i try to stream 880 it isn't playing the game.
[153] Shouldn't use lance and rubber in the same sentence.
[154] I think there are subsidiary radio stations in the Yankee network that somehow avoid the restrictions and stream the game. Google around and maybe you can find one.
[156] but what am i listening to when i stream 880? it's definitely local news and weather. where is john?
Lance Berkman was just hoping that Francoeur got out in a hurry. There's a joke to be made there
Is playing 1st base for the Yankees like This is Spinal Tap, where the drummers spontaneously combust?
[157] They keep the news going on 880 even when there is a game. It runs online, and comes back on the air in the event of a rain delay or something like that.
Atta boy, Jorge!
[145] Its something about his eyes and mouth. I can't verbalize it, but I really, really see it
Methinks Ron Washington is losing a battle here to win the you-know-what. Glad he is showing no interest in stepping on any throats.
hip hip Jorge!!!!
More runs, please.
No mercy!
[159] Ha ha ha
YANKEES bats are coming alive now, VERY good sign.
[145] Hmmm. Maybe you're right.
Gotta score enough runs so Kerry Wood can't blow it.
I really wanted that run sitting there on third.
Uh Oh
MERDE, overslept. Quick recap anyone?
I called a CC shutdown yesterday, btw! Go Go Yankees!
What was up with Berkman's slide? He wasn't going that fast and he slid like 10 feet, half of it on his back!
[172] clearly you need to go bcak to sleep.
[169] If all goes well here, Wood won't even have the chance to enter the game.
[172] Swish and Cano went back to back for the last 2 Yankee runs.
[175] That'd be nice.
[172] oh, and HEY TOKYO!!!
This crowd stinks. Make some noise.
Keep the wheels on here, Big Fella!
Its never good when you expect bad things to happen
Come on, CC, keep it together.
Yet another FUCKING 2 strike hit, grrrrr.
[179] Its a crowd that expects something bad to happen
[178] Oh no, first two things I see on Gameday area a tater and single..yes, back to the futon is shall be! I
If the Yankees lose this game, then they deserve to be knocked out.
That was a swing?
That was big check swing call.
I guess it was
[187] Replay showed he went quite a ways past the plate.
Not good
This is real bad
@$@#$#@$@$#@$@#. Lay out swish. One damn swing and it's f-bomb time.
Uh, boy. Swish was kind of lucky it didn't get past him.
[185] dream sweet yankee dreams
not liking this.
ESCAPE!
Jesus that was huge. Now lets get some more runs
Breathe... I felt like Lance Berkman for a second there!
[196] I'm liking that!
One damn swing and it's woot-woot time. Good on ya' Big Fella!
Awesome!
[193] He played that OK...I think he was trying to get the runner at 2B rather than risk diving and letting it get past him.
Either way, CC ESCAPED!!
The Infamous David Murphy is back.
C'mon CORNFLAKE!!!
[204] Washington is pulling out his big guns before it gets too late. Very smart.
[206] Or he's taunting Girardi
CRUZ day to day with hammy
Lots of line drives, but it would nice a few of them found some gaps.
Damnit.
As I was saying. One more hit and this one might be over.
Frack!
Walk Thames: the right move or not?
Logan Morrison called someone "shark tits" on twitter.
I find that funny
I call big puma with a big hit here.
[213] Well, Berkman does ground into a ton of DPs.
Lance looks like he stands three feet away from the plate
Come on, Berkman, earn that ring.
Some insurance runs, please.
44 balls, 46 strikes? That's terrible.
I know its the Bronx and all, but that was a particularly ugly wide shot
I'm surprised he's still in there.
[216] Yeah. Wonder why they didn't do it in the first place.
That'll do.
Alright. Got that run back.
Not optimal, but not bad either.
Nice but we need more.
Good shot Lance!
Well, he hit it hard again ... got the run in.
Grrr.
Can you give us two more innings, CC?
I thought Vlad might have tipped that at first
Strikes CC
Yanks have 6 hits, 6 runs. Rangers have 9 hits, 1 run.
Ugh!
Oh shit
Dear Coffee Joe
DON'T FUCK AROUND WITH CC.
Get 5 outs and GO TO MO.
Got it???
No strikes for Francouer.
What a mess.
Double Ugh!
Sabathia's struggling, but I don't trust Wood.
Anything that causes Joe to have to manage is a bad, bad thing. CC has to get out of this quickly.
[240] Wood's wildness scares me in a big spot.
[230] Looks like no.
Damn that's a lot of hits CC's given up.
Just out of class, turned on the radio. Fucking Sterling babbled on for five minutes before giving a score, forcing me to open up my laptop to find out what the hell was going on in the game.
Nice to see we have the lead.
Robertson.
Thanks Posada for making that pitch look worse.
How in the hell did that get to the outfield?
Please don't go 3-2.
We sure are living dangerously today.
(I played a recording of Oedpius for my students, so I'm already emotionally frayed. From one tragedy to another.)
Why can't we stomp on these guys when they're down?
Hm. What to do?
Throw a damn strike here. Challenge him.
[251]
There once lived a man named oedipus rex.
You may have heard about his odd complex.
His name appears in freud's index
'cause he loved his mother.
"Once again it will be a 3-2 pitch with the bases loaded, no one out."
You see, fuckwad, that's when a real broadcaster tacks on, "Yanks leading 6-1.")
[251] Easy there pardner! It's not a tragedy just yet! Geez.
I don't like this at all.
OK, ok, ok. One more out.
Why couldn't Alex reach out for that runner???
Professor, I take it back...I think we're getting a Wood sighting tonight. Let's pray it's good Kerry.
I wonder why Sabathia doesn't "have it"
Why was the runner not out of the basepath going to third?
[257] *nodding. skeptically, but nodding all the same*
[261] Sigh. I hope so.
[263] Maybe if Alex got his head in the game and tried to tag him that call would have been made?
Fuck blue, how many goddamn strikes are you not going to call!?!?!?!?
Probably Sabathia's last hitter.
Looked like he could have made the play at home but what do I know.
Great pitch!
Oh my fucking God.
I didn't need that
Hi all. I'm sorry to be missing the Banter.
YES! FINALLY HE GOT A FUCKING CALL.
Jesus the balls/strikes calls were pissing me off.
Really broke over.
That was in the strike zone, but I can't believe the umpire gave it to him, the way Jorgie's glove moved. Pitch was nowhere near where it was supposed to be.
Huge sigh of relief.
[269] Don't think so, but he could have tagged the runner.
Yes TBS that was a strike.
I'm real worried that Joe is going to try to mix and match through the seventh. We need like a three spot.
CC escapes. Phew.
Oops I didn't realize I was behind! Haha
[277] Fortunately he's only got one lefty.
[277] Let's just hope Wood lasts a long time.
(Although if it's more than 6 hours, consult your doctor.)
We as fans seem to now fear Texas as if each and every one of them were Cliff Lee. Like in the Matrix Reloaded.
[282] Everything that possibly could have gone wrong has.
TBS does a fantastic job of showing you where the called strike was before going to commercial. With Fox, you may or may not ever see the pitch again.
Damn, now Mattpat has me worried. I was thinking the bullpen management was really obvious for the rest of this one, but fuck. What if Girardi decides he's going to make some cool moves to make everyone forget about the bizarre decisions he's made so far?
i'd go to wood and if he really fucks up straight to mo
Does Texas really have four lefties in their bullpen? Now we know who we can dump Marte on.
Another run or five would really help. My blood pressure, if nothing else.
[285] I think he'll go Robertson 7th, Wood 8th, Rivera 9th.
Howzabout they score a lead off fucking double this time.
That's my man, Curtis!
['285] WIth maybe one switch to Logan for Hamilton.
Gotta get Grandy home.
[289] i think both Logan and Chamberlain get in as well.
He can't bunt! Let him swing!
Gardner SUCKS at bunting. SUCKS!
[293] Guess we'll see.
Wow, Gardner's been dogshit today.
Just got out of an appointment and found a bar with the game on. Thank you, C.C.!
Come Jetes. Get him in somehow.
Do you think Gardner will ever figure out the things that are keeping him from becoming a very good player? Or is who he is? I mean, he's pretty close to being a very good player, but he watches fat pitches a bit much and he can't bunt when he really needs to be able to with his wheels.
C'mon Jeter.
Prof. L., I think D-Rob is in the doghouse.
Emma, pleased you could join.
[298] Have one for me.
30-min catnap, CC held down the fort?
Up 6-2 and you're sac bunting??
ジラーデイ監督何やろう?!?!
[302] So who pitches the 7th?
[300] He also takes FOR-EVER to get a read on a pitcher.
[302] Joba?
[306] Yes, I knew there was something else!
[300] Actually, I like the way he "watches fat pitches". He's not a great hitter, but his OBP is excellent. And yeah, I think this is who he is. He's not a kid, after all.
Gardner does grind out bats and tires out pitchers. His bunting is not strong.
[284] Agreed. If the Yanks lose this series, one perk will be not watching the Fox Broadcast with a dog in the fight.
I won't much at all if it's Phillies/Rangers. I would LOVE Yanks / Giants. But that's a long shot.
[307] Please no Joba.
Ugh. If I were calling the shots, Kerry W would pitch the seventh. He could be strong and efficient and start the eighth. And Mo for four outs if nec.
[309] Last year he swung at significantly less than half of the pitches in the zone. I don't know what the percentage is this year, but that's just not good.
[311] If Cliff Lee beats the Phillies in the WS, will Reuban Amaro get run out of town? Or tarred and feathered.
Gardner coud be excellent. He gets on base, which is good. He is less of a baserunner than he should be, with his speed, which is unfortunate. Ditto the bunting. That one just now was miraculous and still sucked
[314] Yeah, but in Brett's case I think that's good. If he only swings at the pitches right in his hot spot, he can be a decent hitter.
[315] Good question. Maybe I will watch after all
Jeter vs. Michael Kirkman..classic post-season matchup!
Nice at bat from jeter
I love when Jeter wills himself.
Gardner was very good until the wrist injury, not so hot since ...
Why isn't Jeter stealing?
It's disappointing that CC's probably done, but he "gutted it out" ...
Get it in the air somewhere Nick
Ooohh.. Jeter gave the pitcher a look?
So why didn't Jeter steal?
Please bury this team. Please.
Well, that was worst case scenario.
Please don't fuck this up Joe. PLEASE
Why didn't Jeter steal?
Fuck.
(I know, I don't like "plays", but WTF?)
fucking horseshit. Lead off doubles are poison.
[330] We don't do plays.
[331] Doubles are worse rally killers than homers!
They are poison for this team, not most teams.
[332] And in general I'm glad.
I wonder if Cashman texted Girardi, "No plays, Joe."
COULD THEY JUST PLAY A GAME AND NOT PISS ME OFF???
[331] Quote of the day thus far
[336] I doubt it.
That was poor
I never thought with this score at this point of the game I'd still have the urge to fucking hurl.
The Rangers have blown more chances than the Yankees today, but not by much.
Kerry!
All is forgiven, Joe!
The Rangers are chock full of punks. I don't like punks.
I see Thames getting a big knock soon.
[341] A couple of runs worth, anyway.
Does Andrus ever not get on base?
Hoo boy.
OK. Four run lead. Ignore the runner. Focus on the batter. FOCUS.
Ohfercrisake.
Yup. I am so sick of that fucking kid.
Apparently Wood also doesn't make plays.
Fuck Kerry, don't barehand that shit!
[346] Only when he bats immediately after the #9 guy hits a HR, I think.
[335] There are so many ways to get a runner home from 3rd. The Yanks refuse to try most of them and seem to be unable to do any of them.
[351] Especially with your pitching hand.
[347] But you have to focus on the runner. If he steals second then Joe will start intentionally walking guys.
FORGET ABOUT THE RUNNER.
These Rangers are apparently not bailing out on any ABs.
[355] Damn. Another conundrum.
Nice..Posada tagged the batter with two strikes.
Posada just tagged the batter. He is losing it.
[356] I figure that's not exactly what you meant, but maybe I'm wrong.
Must have a different catcher next year.
Well, that's one way to eliminate the steal.
I bet Posada got his name wrong on the SAT.
[362] ?
Gotta trade for the Texas backstop next year.
Elvis on base. Stupid Young with a 15 pitch ab. It's a horror movie. Same thing over and over and over again.
[364] Lay off my man. He's going to the Hall of Fame.
Obviously Posada came out to the mound and said: "throw a fastball past him."
Good work, Kerr.
But he's working too hard to pitch the 8th, I figure.
IGNORE THE RUNNER (now at 2B).
Oh, wow!
Oh, sweet.
Wazoo!
Hah!
Was that a play?
IGNORE MONKEYPANTS' SUGGESTIONS.
that's the best thing that's happened in hours
Finally they got to that guy's running game! Yeah!
[371] :)
[371] HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!
[369] Might have. That's probably about the level of mound discussion.
[369] "and if I drop the 3rd strike, don't be surprised if I throw it to third."
Nice pick off.
Monkeypants has now locked up the Comment of the Game award. Everyone can relax.
It was a play. I swear.
[384] Agreed. Now we can all go home.
[384] I couldn't do it without my fans, the public....
[385] The smell of greasepaint! The roar of the crowd!
Fuck YES!
6 more. WHoo-hoo.
Okay.
So, is there any way he can start the 8th? I'd let him, but there might be a good reason not to that I'm ignorant of.
Siddown, Hammer.
I bet Girardi will wait until there is 1 out and then bring Mo.
[391] mo hasn't pitched since friday and has an off day tomorrow?
but a 4 run lead may not necessitate using him in the 8th.
[365] At least to start splitting the duties. Montero? Anyone? He's a defensive minus anymore.
Does Wood have two pick offs in this series?
[395] Dude! Where are you from? I haven't heard anyone use "anymore" like that since my college roommate!
[395] He's been a defensive minus for a while, but his offense still outweighs that. Plus, I am not sure what he did that inning to inspire the comment. Wood's WP was completely uncatchable.
[396] Yes he does. Game one he got Kinsler.
[398] Maybe the tag on the batter with only two strikes pissed him off?
There's no freaking need to bring in Mo with 2 outs and and no one on. So I'm hoping for a 1,2.3. obviously. But that ain't happening.
[395] Yes, it's time for Posada to move to a backup/Dh role and help break in someone new.
[394] This season Mo had three 2.0 INN appearances and two 1.1 INN appearances. That's for the whole year. If the game is not on the line, I highly doubt that Girardi uses him for more than 3 or 4 outs.
[403] Right. But he'll pitch the ninth no matter what the lead is, just for the work.
[402] You give away 100 points of OPS. Probably more. Your guy had better be an amazing catcher.
[404] definitely.
Girardi looks like he's been sedated. (Gotta help our chances.)
[405] No, I'm hoping one of the great minor league hitters is ready to come up and start breaking in. No way Posada should be backup to some Cervelli type.
[405] You and I have always agreed on this. The folks who complain (sometimes frequently) about replacing Jorge don't realize how much they are going to miss that production from the position...no matter how unsightly his catching "style" may be.
[407] wow - that would be a BRILLIANT idea! Maybe Cashman got him with some sort of dart gun.
I wish Darling or Johnson would tell us who's warming up in the Yankee bulllpen.
How is Romine developing? He's in Double A, no? Assuming Montero isn't ready (or never will be).
Too bad Montero was injured. Would have been interesting to see him get a cup of coffee in September.
[407] I had visions of Cashman, hiding in the shadows, shooting Girardi with a tranquilizer dart gun.
[409] Absolutely. He's a Hall of Famer, and one of the reasons the Yankees have been so good so long for the last 12-13 years.
[408] Romine can't be expected to hit better than Cervelli, at least at first. Montero will be a worse catcher than Posada. So [409] yeah.
[413] Injured or not, I have a feeling he was never going to be called up in September. For one, he wasn't on the 40-man roster, was he?
[416] Romine no better than Cervelli? That's pretty bad.
[410] [414] Great (or twisted) minds...
I thought Romine was highly touted and gaining ground. Moot if he can't hit.
[412] Romine and Montero sort of switched places over the year. At first, Montero struggled to adjust to AAA, and Romine was doing great in AA. Scouts were saying the Yanks should trade Montero and anoint Romine Posada's heir.
But then Romine fell into a horrible slump, and Montero started raking. By the end of the season, Montero had pulled ahead. But he didn't get called up because he was injured at the end of the AAA season.
I've heard criticism of Montero's defense, but he looks okay to me. (I'm in upstate NY, and see more AAA games than big league games.). He's got a strong arm. At least compared to Chad Moeller.
[420] I think eventually he'll be a decent hitter, but I just don't think he's ready for the bigs yet.
[418] Not yet. He's still super young after his first full year at AA. Let's not rush Romine to the big leagues.
[423] OK, one more year of 100 games for Posada.
5 MORE OUTS....whadda'd I miss?
[421] I've had a hunch that Montero's defensive deficiencies have been greatly exaggerated. If he hits like they say he'll hit, he'll start behind the plate...at least for a few years.
[425] Lots of aggravation.
Kerry looking good.
I love Kerry Wood.
Kerry is doing just fine.
Hip's better. YAY WOOD!
Finally a play! A-Rod no less.
Wood really has been a nice pickup. Score one for Cashman.
[417] Montero isn't on the 40-man, but I believe he has to be added this year to protect him from Rule 5. So the roster repercussions are minor.
[428] Wood picked Andrus off second.
[434] Right, but I doubt they were going to start his options clock this year for a september callup. He'll start next season in AAA on the 40-man roster and make an appearance in the bigs in the middle of the season (if there is an injury to a starter) or as a September call-up. Then he will start somewhere in the bigs in 2012. That's my guess.
You the man, Curtis! Rock those Pinstripes.
Something sort of kinda good!
Yay!
Heading back to Texas...
Sweet.
Yeah, I'm goin' down to Texas and be one more horse's ass...
I used to be your stallion but that's all in the past
So face the tail on my nose and point me towards the grass
'Cause I'm goin' down to Texas and be one more horse's ass.

Oops, sorry for the double post.
Gamecast has the Yanks with a 99% chance of winning.
This is a very relaxing feeling.
[444] Gamecast doesn't know about Mo.
Here it is, punk. Hit it.
Next.
Not even gonna break 500 comments.
Better game, fewer comments.
I think the starting time was (part of) the difference.
That's just not right. So unaesthetic.
[451] For sure. I wonder if we have some Banterers at the game, too...
The random strike zone is fucking with my calmness.
All RIse.
Just what the doctor ordered.
Thanks be to Mo.
Alright boys. One game at a time.
Yup. Still a long shot, but two games is a lot easier than three games.
Escape from New York.
Take it easy, everyone.
Hey all - sorry I couldn't join in here, had to watch the kids while my wife is out.
Next up - Friday night.
Praise be to Mo.
Well, as I feared, going to my lucky bar did the trick.
I'll be back there for the start of Friday night's game.
A win is a win and we need wins right now, but it would be nice if this team could simply have a well-played game on both sides of the ball and win one easily.
The Rob-Curtis interview is amazing. One guy who was born to be in front of a mike, in front of a camera, and the other guy is borderline incomprehensible, but you just have to love both of them.
[397] Jersey. Transplanted to Japan 20 years ago.
Sorry for starting and then dropping out of the Posada discussion. My wife wanted to use the computer, so I listened to the end on radio.
[464] My roommate was also from Jersey! I'm pretty sure it was Jersey City. Yeah. And his family used to live in Avon-by-the-Sea.
So, that's a Jersey thing, anymore. Who knew?
