Second Placeman?

You think Robbie Cano will finish second in the AL MVP voting over Miguel Cabrera? That’s as close as he’ll get to winning it, according to Rob Neyer:

The question isn’t, “Who will win the American League’s Most Valuable Player Award?”

That isn’t remotely the question, because we already know that Josh Hamilton is going to win. If he’s not the the unanimous choice, like Joey Votto, he’ll come very close.

And like Votto, Hamilton will be a fine choice.

The question is, “If not Hamilton, though, then who?”

Would you believe….?

Pete Abe says:
"Victor Martinez is leaving the Red Sox for the Detroit Tigers, having accepted a four-year deal worth $50 million."

This is a blow to the Red Sox.

I hope the MVP plays 100 games next year.

[1] They could target Miguel Olivo or Bengie Molina, in which in either case it's not that much of a loss.

It's Josh in a landslide. Cano third.

Cliff preferred Miguel Cabrera. He makes good points (of course).

Also, the V-Mart has signed with the Tigers. RSN is moaning. But they do get a good compensation pick.

[6] Cabrera is not only a 1B, but an awful one. He would have to completely out hit the field in order to compensate for his defensive deficiencies.

[7] Here's hoping the Tigers sign an even better Type-A free agent! Also, Detroit and Oakland were tied for the 15th best record in the majors. They were also 3-3 in head-to-head. I'm not sure how MLB breaks that tie for purposes of the draft, but if the Tigers wind up with the lesser position, their number one pick would be protected.
