Up Your Wake

Mornin’ y’all.

The Yanks have re-signed Serge Mitre. We haven’t got a worry in the world! Also, I was struck with a second-guess last night. Cliff Lee has made such a good nemesis for the Yanks the past few years, what if he signs for less and spurns the Bombers? Then, we’ll have something to get all sweaty about.

So the obsession the Yankees have with Mitre continues. Next up, Chad Gaudin!

Gardner has surgery. How many more? I predict A-hipRod.

Well, Aceves for starters.

Mitre must have indisputable photos of Cashman rappelling down a 22 story hooker. How else does one explain such a waste of money? Do the Yankees not have a farmhand or twelve who can match Mitre's sustained mediocrity? This is no insurance root canal surgery for the fun of it. This signing makes my cheek painfully swollen. I can't see out of my left eye.
Thanks, Cashman.

When the pain subsides maybe I can explain how I really feel about this.

i guess he wasn't as bad last year as i feared he would be but still, now that he is arb eligible no need to pay him.

after a salt water rinse, some antibiotics, and painkillers I can add to my post about Mitre.
After the putrid embarrassment of a performance he put forth against Texas (mopping up what was left of the AJ Burnett disaster) I was certain we'd never see Mitre "working" for the Yankees again. He gave up on the game. He surrendered 3 hits and 2 home runs in 1 inning. He surrendered. Granted, he was placed in a no-win situation, but he surrendered in every sense of the word. Gave the Yankees nothing. Surrendered. A professional pitcher who has any value does not surrender. Mitre has shown he is not even capable of mopping up. He is a waste of $900,000, and more importantly a waste of roster space. Any innings he pitches for the Yankees in 2011 will be to the detriment of a more deserving player.

I'm not thrilled about the signing, I wouldn't sweat it either; given the nature of pitching staffs in general, I don't think he'll be taking innings from those more deserving, or whatever. He'll probably fill the same role that he has filled since he arrived; spot starter, mopup man, bullpen fodder. Chances are, he'll add more value than Brian Anderson and Andy Sisco.

I don't know why Cashman didn't wait until after the Rule 5 draft; are pickings really that slim?
