There is nothing that depresses me like the sight of an empty token booth, like this one on the downtown side of a midtown stop on the IRT. The station has been without a clerk for some time now but the booth remains (and there is a clerk on the uptown side). The place feels haunted to me.
At least the booth is still there for aggravated commuters to yell at. Basically, that's all a clerk is there for anyway. MTA punching bags without the power to help you in any way.
Getting rid of the clerks, shutting down the booths, yet still raising the price of my monthly Metrocard by $15...fuckers!!! ;-P
1) Could be but the morning clerk at 238th is like the MAYOR. He's such a good dude and is so helpful and everyone who comes through that station on the reg loves him.
i like this ny minute feature alex.
i use one of two stations at 116th and both have a clerk on the downtown side but are empty on the uptown side. it is depressing and a bit haunting.
there is a calendar hanging on the wall just marking dead time.
Give it time. Soon the empty booth will be gone, with only a bare spot in the tile to mark where it was.
They yanked the uptown booth on the 1 at 110th St recently and it was a shock.
