Hard to go wrong with the great Mr. Waits.

Nice. Tom Waits is probably my favorite living artist.

[3] Tom Waits? Not that I have a problem with his talents or work, but the "favorite?" Who made the final cut? But, what is more surprising, photographer to photographer, is your focus on the music guy and not the photographers. Where does Robert Frank rank on your list?

This photo shows large. Someone taking a photo in the 80's of Frank shooting Waits in the East Village. Drugs, poverty, crime, immigrants, new wavers, art, culture. Look at the passive spectators. Waits squats. Some pose. Frank uses a Polaroid. Foot cast on guy with cup. Keds. Who is the guy with the pack? Where did they take the picture? Just a great image.

The new format in the Mag appealed to me, except for the Ethicist, which I always find indipid.

Ben Webster, Chet Baker, Oscar Peterson, John Coltrane, Johnny Hartman, oh, wait, they're all dead.

I'm naturally melancholy. Don't love Waits' junkyard stuff, but nobody does wistful like he does. I Wish I Was In New Orleans. Postcard From A Hooker In Minneapolis. Hold On. Time. Cold Cold Ground. Better Off Without A Wife.

And I just take pictures. Not much of a student.
