we lounge to the sounds as we leave from uptown
it’s time to go downtown and make some more rounds

a gang starr doc would be juicy and sad as hell.

Yeah. Hey, I saw the Tribe doc. It's good. Too much Phife and Tip fighting, though I understand why they cover that. But not so much of it that it spoils the fun. Madlib and PB Wolf did the music and that's very solid. Better than a Behind the Music, which is what I was afraid it'd be. Not great but good, especially for us Tribe heads.

cool. thanks for your take alex. guess i'll check it out sooner rather than later - i was also worried it would be a behind the music which i could do without.

It is in a way, because I don't think you can get away from it, but it also avoids getting too bogged down in the cliches and sticks to the music. I wish there was even more music but the stuff that I'm interested in--how they wrote verses, where they got samples from, etc--might have a limited appeal. There's all sorts of directions I think they could have gone in, but then it'd be a different movie. It wasn't terrible. Not great, but solid. Rappaport did a good job.

yep, just that tip is not cool with the movie in part forebodes that there is so much drama that you can't get away from it.

would be really cool to see something about how tribe made their tracks. there was a documentary on years ago - i think it was part of a series made by someone british (of course :}) who looked at how jay made reasonable doubt. talked about the samples they used, how they chopped them up, which producer came up with them, how jay came up with the verses. i found it really interesting. so it would be fascinating to see something like that for other albums, especially groups.

5) Agreed. They talk about a few tracks but it's just a tease. LOL
