Let’s Go Yank-ees!
I'm trying to decide if I wanna keep score again tonight.
I'm home, so I'll be watching on TV. I think we'll go live instead of using the DVR to avoid commercials. Plus JJ is pumped, and I think we're gonna let him stay up till 9:30. Baseball through the eyes of my kids is amazing. He had me in the yard playing a mock game this afternoon. In his mind it wasn't Yanks v Tiggers. It was Yanks v Phillies. Sooptomistic!
Is Joe afraid that Posada will come to the dugout with a giant 'We are the 99% placard" and chant "What do we want? Batting 7th. When do we want it? Now!" if he pencils in Montero at DH?
Man, the waiting is brutal. Ah, the sweet, awful tension of the playoffs.
Is Doc Ellis driving the score truck tonight? I definitely can't read that thing. I can make out an i-n-k possibly.
[3] "sweet, awful tension"
Damn skippy!
I've been waiting for this since Game 4 ended. Finally done with work for the day, sort of, and off home - I should make it just in time for the first pitch.
[1] You are KEEPING SCORE.
Didn't it work the other night?
Worried as heck, all sorts of nervous feeling on this one.
Game 5 hype up may be even more - Nova can have pitches go high with too much amp.
Also worried that it's more of an advantage to see him twice in a few days than Pfister - have a horrible scenario in my mind where the Tigers conscientiously lay off of anything Nova throws that dives down in the zone and wait for what is up higher.
Pfister throws so many alternatives that I don't think one days really predicts the next.
Advantage Tigers?
Anyone throwing a predictable or first pitch fastball to Young gets sent to Seattle.
Do people think the Tigers, despite what Leyland has said, might use Verlander tonight if the opportunity is there? Anyone with any insight into the home plate ump for tonight? Wish that didn't matter, but it does.
Please, let it be the Yanks tonight - don't want it to end here. More baseball, please...
[2] Why are we complaining about Posada at DH? He's been very good, leading the team in batting average, on-base percentage and walks through the first four games.
[2] Montero is listed as "day to day" at ESPN.
Um...what's wrong with him?
[6] I can't imagine that Leyland isn't open to the possibility of using Verlander, but not all managers subscribe to the leave it all out there way of thinking in deciding games, or crucial games. Baseball, unlike other sorts is a tad unique in this regard. I can't count how many scrubs have started playoff games while bona fide starters on three days rest languished drinking Gatorade in the dugout. I of course will always wish that Brenly had been more like Torre.
[7] Not complaining, but Montero is clearly swinging a hot bat.
10) So is Posada.
[8] Nothing. We are all day to day. ; )
He did foul one off his foot the other night, though.
[4] It says "We Play Today We Win Today". Play to win or don't play at all, period.
I want a Granderson jersey now. No matter what he does from here on out, he is Da Man to me.
[11] Don't get me wrong, Posada is as well, and I love seeing him out there for what could be his last few games as a Yankee. But I think Montero's numbers in September trump Posada. Most notably in the potential power department. That's all I am saying.
[7] And base running blunders. I kid, I kid. Might be his final game.
[14] Yes, but not in the OPS against RHP department, which is why Posada is starting.
Assuming Montero is healthy (and #8 is the 1st I've heard of anything), he'll pinch hit for Jorge if there's a LHP (Coke, Scherzer) on the mound.
[6] Already got the scorecards filled out!
I just posted this as my facebook status, and I firmly believe it:
Hmmm, supposedly Verlander threw a bullpen today.
57 pitches.
Guess we can rule that one out.
Ohayo Gozaimasu!
Youse guys see this one?
http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/ivan-nova-should-get-the-joe-saunders-treatment/
[15] When he almost got picked at second the other night, I about jumped out of my chair. Luckily it's been funny rather than costly during his career.
[18] Leyland's cigarettes are apparently rotting his brain.
Flealand already stated V wasn't available tonight.
[19] That's just crap to fill a page with when everything else has been written to death. The game hasn't even started. How about Joe worries about how to get the "final outs" while the game is actually in progress?
"So, what do you think Smoltzy, Joe pulling Nova after the 4th having not given up a hit?"
[22] It's just idiotic not to have him ready.
I will be watching the game on DVR, as I don't get out of work until later that 8:00 EST here on the left coast.
Have fun guys! Keep the faith. Let's go Yankees!
It's almost time!! Good luck New York! We are the 99%!
Tim McCarver won't be announcing this post-season. I was so glad to hear that until they said it's because he has some "minor heart issues". Get well soon Timmah!
LET'S Go YAN-KEES!!
TIck-TIck-TIck-TIck-TIck-TIck-TIck-TIck-TIck-TIck-TIck-TIck-TIck-TIck-TIck-TIck-
ChiSox hire Ventura as manager. Methinks he'll be a bit less colorful than Ozzie.
GO YANKEES! Oi! Start the game already!
[27] Replaced by Terry Francona in the ALCS!
Well, here we go.
Let's Go Yanks!
I'm perfectly calm.
32) Calmer than you.
LET"S GO!
"Their closer is equally better?"
[32][33] Lyin' MFers!! :)
I'm freaking out.
36) ditto. LOL
BANTER RULES! Glad to be going through this shit with you all!
Lets go Yan-kees!
Here we go!
Get ahead, stay ahead. Throw strikes. Let's go Nova baby!
GO GET EM!
KEEP WATCHING, AUSTIN!
Good start.
Nice. I thought the 1-2 was a strike but after seeing the replay I agree with the Ump, just off the plate.
Fuck.
Uh-oh.
Who the hell is Don Kelly?
Will, you are here my brother!
Crap!
eeep
Oh no..
Ugh.
Get CC up.
Well this is not good.
Nova a little nervous, maybe?
fuck fuck
Lock it down, Rook. You'll be alright! Fuck Delmon Young!
Two true outcomes.
Well, that's a sub-fucking-optimal beginning.
Seriously, HOW THE FUCK DOES DELMON YOUNG HAVE 3 FUCKING HOMERUNS IN THIS SERIES?!?!?!?
Hang in there, Ivan.
simma down simma down simma downna... Nova is still pitching hard!
Cano. Patent it.
Alright. Fuck it. 2 runs ain't winning this game anyhow.
Get 'em back.
Let's get those runs back right quick.
Okay, so we do need fielders after all.
A lot of true outcomes that inning.
Get one back now, keep it close!
B, I'll be in and out; I'm at JFK waiting to pick up camera and crew returning from LA, so I'll be driving in a bit. I'll check in when it's feasible and especially when I'm done for the night. Now let's get those two runs back!
2 runs is not gonna win this game. Plenty of time. Let's get the offense rolling. Gas up the truck.
[67] see [58].
[70] Blast!
Fister really is a tall drink of water, isn't he? They should bash him tonight, two runs coming back quick!
I leave for five minutes and everything goes to hell
Thief!
Hey smoltz. why don't you go take a fucking nap!
Blecchhh..i don't like Miggy with the D or Fister with the K..
Miguel Cabrera flashing leather. Uh-oh...this better not be one of those games...
Huh, my comment is awaiting moderation; the airport initials must have set off the censor gates...
We're screwed
[78] Yeah, exactly ...
We got this, Team. I'm not worried.
OK, I am not staying up all night for this, so things better improve right quick.
[80] c'mon dude. seriously, we've got 24 more outs to work with here.
[82] I'm with you. It may take a few innings, but we'll get these guys.
i really hate delmon young
[84] That's just Mattpat being Mattpat. Frankly, I'd be a lot more worried if he was taking this calmly and rationally ...
Mo dammit. Finish this a-hole!
[87] ... trying to imagine it...
Oh fuck me.
GET HIM OUT
Got to get someone warming up.
NEVER MIND. KEEP HIM IN.
It's Hughes. I thought it was going to be CC.
Bullpen already!
Don't panic.
hold em.
Well done.
[94] Gotta figure CC would take too long to get warm here. Better to get an actual reliever in, then worry about going to CC in an inning or so, when he's got time to warm fully.
Nice.
One more, Ivan, one more...
One more, Ivan. You got this brother.
Yes, hit to the right spot.
C'mon Nova, bear down, GET THIS OUT.
Hughes does not seem like a great choice here.
Not really feeling Martin dropping balls like that...
strike this MOTHERFUCKER OUT!
Man, that was a cookie.
Got to get this out, here.
Sweet!
NICE. SCORETRUCK!!!!!!!
YES1
Bravo, Ivan. Bravo.
Slider working well.
Nice escape, kid.
[104] But he had a good inning the other day. And we all know his stuff plays better outta the pen.
C'mon Centaur!! What's with that weak hack?
We catch up, we don't let go, we win this muhg...
[114] Man, isn't that horse glue yet?
Smoltz is really not enjoyable to listen to..
Fuck you, blue.
Rapidly losing patience.
(I mean, that wasn't egregious or anything, but Nova better get that call. And yes, Smoltz is a fool.)
Loved the high blue pitch Ivan didn't get the first inning. Mother fucking inconsistency.
Good work, Teix.
That's more like it.
Nice.
That's the way, Teix. Beep-beep. Drive him home.
nice barehanded catch, Phil!
Whoa, Tesh with the post-season hit! I like this development!
Man, he really shouldn't be trying to pull that ball.
Well done, Tesh.
Now, do your thing Cornflake.
FUCK YOU UMP!!!!!!!!
Terrible call.
Good, let em know you can hit him hard...
Fuck!
DAMMIT
Let's go old man. Couple more bullets!
"(Grand slam homerun" is redundant, as is "complete game shutout.")
First pitch, good swing. Good pitch to hit.
Oh, damn it. That was your pitch, Jorgie.
Motherfucker.
boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Dag.
Well, that was terrible.
At least they got a hit
Hughes already? Hmmm...
Wow.
Oh christ no
Whoa!!
Wtf?
Ooh, don't like that. At all. I would go with Ivan for a couple more.
I guess they didn't want a second shot at him.
Noted Mediocrity Phil Hughes to the rescue
I bet one of the coaches "saw something".
all star game rules?
Is Nova hurt?
Wow. The Chessmaster is pulling out all the stops.
They better let Hughes go at least 4 innings here..I'll pass out if we see Ayala.
Really, Coffee Joe?
I get a quick hook, but, yikes, this reeks of panic.
Good work, Hughesy. Keep it up.
Peanut gallery on Twitter, et al all praising Girardi for the quick hook..all non-Yankee fans methinks..
[117] That horse may be dead, but it aint tired!
Wow, he's dealing.
[156] there might be fire to that smoke.
[19] I actually laughed when I read in that article that the Yankees would only be looking for Nova to get through the Tigers' lineup one time. That's exactly what he faced... 9 batters in 2 innings.
[155] No Ayala.
Phil for two, CC for two, then D-Rob and Mo combine for the last nine outs.
Sit down fucker! High Cheese!
I'm trying to think of a worse way to lose the series than an AJ Burnett good starts and more "HUGHES TO THE PEN" ammo.
That has to be worst case scenario, right?
We need to win now
Fucking dick. That's the EXACT spot A-Rod was rung up on!
Fuck.
But the variable strike zone thing pisses me off.
And I was so calm.
I hope Delmon Young breaks his leg within the next 3 minutes.
Jeez Louise. That almost went out.
[169] don't look a gift horse in the mouth, they say..
Good work, Phil.
Good work.
Now let's go, fucking offense!
Huuuuuuuuughes!
Oh, did you see that pitch? I think Phil calls that his "FU MATTPAT" pitch.
[163] Phil for 4 why not?
[165] i understand your point about hughes (though i've always thought they got it backwards and hughes should be a reliever, joba a starter), but what's the downside to a good burnett start? i don't see how it changes anything in the future.
Oh fuck fuck oh fuck oh fuck
Was in the shower listening for the first two homers - argh.
I blame myself.
Is this a panic move?
How many innings you think Phil has in him?
Pfister is scary - can this lineup get locked in on him again?
I once saw a Phil Hughes/Miguel Cabrera encounter that started 0-2, moved on to 3 awful waste pitches, and ended with a bomb.
That was no fun
Why is everyone getting fucking jammed?
[175] Now when AJ Burnett pitches like AJ Burnett for the next ywo years this game will be used as a crutch.
Can we have some offense please?
http://www.brooksbaseball.net/pfxVB/cache/zoneplotNonNorm.php-pitchSel=all&game=gid_2011_10_06_detmlb_nyamlb_1&sp_type=1&s_type=7.gif
[179] maybe, but i really doubt it. he didn't even get through the 6th inning. i see your point now though.
Jesus, Brett, STOP FUCKING WATCHING.
Thank you.
How many more fucking meatballs are these guys planning on watching zip right on past them? Oi. That's the way, Lil G!
[183] Nice job.
[183] Was thinking the same thing. Ended well enough
Stealstealstealstealstealstealsteal please.
NO PLAYS.
NO PLAYS.
Can they look fastball low?
[190] Wha? Brett hit a slider.
So this inning the announcers called Gardner the one consistent bat in the Yankees lineup during the series, but last inning they said Posada was the most consistent bat in the lineup.
[189] The one play we do is a sac bunt. I don't expect that here
2-1. RUN!
[192] Yes. Posada is the most consistent, but he he is not consistent. Therefore, Gardner is the one consistent one.
[191] He seems to be getting a lot of called strikes on fastballs low.
OOGGGGHHHH, GODDAMNIT!
Aughhhhh!
UNFUCKINGBELIEVABLE.
Jeter takes 2 FAT PITCHES to give Gardner a chance to run.
Gardner doesn't run.
Jeter strikes out on shit.
Brett Gardner is without question the most infuriating base stealer I've ever seen
???
It would have been stupid for Brett to try to steal during Jeter's at bat. He had no read on Fister, and Fister has a good move.
[200] God gave him wheels but denied him the basepaths-mongata.
Ok, BAT on BALL.
Nice and easy now...
[199] I'd like to see someone without a life chart Brett's steal attempts to see how often he runs before the fourth pitch.
I can't imagine its more than 5 percent of the time
GoodEyeGoodEye!
Cano, do NOT swing at any junk pitches please!
Good eye, Curtis.
Fucking Robbie, PLEASE, just chill out and hit it hard.
Run into one, Robbie. Please. Pretty fucking please.
[201] He never has a read on anyone. That's why he takes forever to start running
Good eye, Rob!
That's a boy...nice and easy...
Just drive it, Rob.
Good eye!
Robbie looks like he's chillin' in a Lazy Boy. You cant faze him.
knock the cover off the ball!
[208] Well, his success rate was like 80%. If that's not getting a read on anyone, then I'm in favor of him not getting a read on anyone.
What is this stirke zone??!
Fuck.
Just think left-center, Rob...
NOT A FUCKING STRIKE!
Shit.
PLEASE, Robbie, please...
Worst pitch of the ab, & it was called a strike...
One bad call ruins the whold goddamn at bat. I am going crazy with the blue box. Bury that shit never to be seen again.
Hang in, Robbie, hang in...
Yeesh.
LET'S GO ROBBIE!
Oh god, I nearly had a heart attack there.
Out of play.
GOd, I'm a nervous fucking wreck...
[224] Embrace destiny.
FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK.
Dammit!
What a disaster
[225] The fuck does that mean?
Wheeeeeew. Crowd yelled. Me too.
Fister's simpy too good.
[226] No, I like that inning. They're going to get to Fister. And remember, there's likely to be a Valverde sighting in this game. Just have to hold them at 2..
DAMN IT!
[229] It's kind of a zen Nietzsche thing.
Fuck fuck fuck fuck
Already working on a heart attack/ulcer
Oh, if that ball could have just got down
From the first we saw this guy his stuff looks really tough to me, although the Yanks looked like they were doing something in that inning... argh...
[232] We've done so well against Valverde so far!
[231] He's not too good. Two base runners and a long fly. He was lucky.
[236] 9.0 ERA.
[237] "long" is being kinda generous.
Really? Not a strike. How come?
[234] :) I'm in no mood for philosophy. I'm raging within, as if consumed inwardly by a thousand hornets.
wow. "ball" one.
[238] And we needed 9.000000001
[232] Valverde only sucks when it's not a save situation this year. 49 for 49
YESSS!
(Remember when that bozo from Arizona dropped two such balls in one inning?)
[241] Channel Casey Stengel.
Oh god, we're gonna play matchups for the rest of this godforsaken game
We will get to Fister. He looked good for a while in Game 1, too.
[241] I think I saw a Japanese horror film once with a similar title "Consumed By A Thousand Hornets"..
If Logan comes in I'm going to join you weeping on the heart attack train though..
[243] Indeed. But 9.0 ERA is doing pretty well, I'd say.
c dxfvbgtojlk09op-=]['po0o,ki
Oh fuck this is HORRIFIC
Jeez mix and match all night.
Girardi's tight, even for Girardi!
Nooooooooo...JoeyJoeJoe, I cannot take this bullpen roulette..Hughes is pitching well..god, i need a drink and it's 10-fecking AM here..
Girardi is out of his mind tonight.
[250] Just good enough to lose.
Not enjoying this stragegy. Not one bit.
Huh. Didn't see that coming.
This could work, though. I usually hate bullpen roulette, but it almost makes sense here.
How can this possibly not mean Wade and Ayala???
And either one of them pitching in this game is so fucking unacceptable, that if they come into this game, Girardi should be fired before the game is over.
Nooooooooo...JoeyJoeJoe, I cannot take this bullpen roulette..Hughes is pitching well..god, i need a drink and it's 10-freakin AM here..
AND PEOPLE THINK HE NEEDS ANOTHER LEFTY
I'm a little worried about one of the next 7 Yankee bullpen pitchers not having his A-game
[256] If you think that the problem was that we didn't "do so well against Valverde" those nights, then I'd have to say you weren't actually watching.
I ... I ... I might not be able to watch 9 innings of this Girardi bullshit.
Seriously, if Wade or Ayala come into this game, he should be fired before the ball lands.
This is atrocious. This can't end well. This can't be good for the bats. This isn't good.
[237] [239] Driven!?
What the fuck is it this Girardi? This motherfucker's gotta go.
[260] Exactly - sooner or later, one of these guys is NOT going to have it. Ugh. This is a silly way to manage.
Don't hit him. Don't walk him.
Arrrrrrrghhhhh.
I HATE THIS
I despise Boone Logan
FUCK YOU GIRARDI.
MFER!!!! Phil Hughes is a better pitcher than Boone Logan!!
Joe Girardi is not a good manager. How much more evidence do we need?
Girardi is fucking this game up. Unbelievable.
How on earth did Joe Girardi win a World Series?
Two out.
[265] Well, no. Too high.
But hitting flies against Fister is good. That's his weak point, right?
And... there's Corey Wade.
Fucking motherfuck.
Wade is warming.
Take a moment and let that sink in.
[274] Because the last time he pulled this fucking stnt it blew up on his face and he was too afraid to try it again.
Boone Logan in the 4th inning... I think the Yankees may have shot their load a little too soon
[276] Bob Brenly won a WS..managers hurt way more often than they help. JoeyJoeJoe is infuriating.
I hope there's a sniper along the third base line to take out Girardi
[265] Lofted
I think the Yankees will break through with some runs, but they'd better do it soon before Joe G's "Carousel of Pitchers" seriously implodes.
This game's going to wind up 2-2 in the 10th and Swisher will be the only one left to pitch.
I was thinking that Girardi should have started Montero at DH. Just a hunch that he will get a hit or two.
Bravo, Boone Logan.
Let's fucking HIT, motherfuckers!
I STILL HATE THIS
Genius.
Way to go, Boone.
Phew!
Chirst. Who's gonna pitch the rest of the game?
You can throw that binder out during the playoffs!
Well at least Boone Logan probably won't pitch again tonight.
[286] Yeah, that's a point.
Freddy, maybe, if it comes to that.
[284] For a long time game three of the 2009 ALCS was the low point of Girardi's run here.
This has so much potential to top that
In what inning do we see Proctor?
How does this not now SCREAM PANIC?
Doesn't this even take the crowd out of the game?
How does this not make the bats get tighter?
This seems like a fireable move.
Who else would anyone like to see manage this team?
A run or five would sure help me come off the ledge.
Ok, Mo for 2, so we still have the 5th, 6th and 7th
Robertson and CC for 5-7?
[300] He's not on the roster, right?
If that ever happens, I will not watch another Yankee game until Coffee Joe is fired.
Well, so far JoeyJoeJoe's Bullpen Roulette hasn't ended up with his brains all over the wall.
Pull ... click.
Pull ... click.
Pull ... ???
2/3 of the game left. Let's go O! Ferfuck's sake!
Wade: 5th
Sori: 6th
D-Rob: 7th
Mo: 8th & 9th?
Fister 2nd time through the heart of the order. Let's see if any adjustments have been made.
[301] I was in the crowd for the Noesi/Shields game a few weeks back.
Its SO FUCKING BORING and totally takes the crowd out of it.
It was understandable then though
[293] CC or Jesus.
Damn it, Alex late on a 91mph cookie.
[304] Yeah, I was joking... I hope.
[306] You forgot CC.
Alex still ain't right if he's not slamming that one. : (
I think some comments of mine got sent to moderation..is #307 by Raf? "Fister 2nd time through the heart of the order. Let's see if any adjustments have been made."
Are our boys on Prozac?
Need some runs. Pitchers will pitch better with some breathing room.
BB, good start
Good work, Al! Good fucking work!
Now let's do this cockfucker!
Good walk for ARod. Would like to see him run into one today.
Proctor's locker is cleared out. If we can score some fucking runs Colon would be game one starter I suspect.
[315] I think that's 308, but one of mine also got stuck in moderation. (For no obvious reason.)
Sounds like that fucking guy from that Texas cartoon show.
Hey Leyland, the cemetery called - bring in Girardi with you tonite please
A walk's as good as a hit!
Just missing.
[315] Shows up @ 308, yes, your comment's in purgatory :p
CC coming in
CC, as expected.
Tex and Alex just missing good pitches here.
Whow about a meaningful hit for Teix?
Let's get Pujols and cut Tex
CC could be like Moose in Game 7 back in 03!
If gameday's accurate, Fister's getting squeezed quite a bit.
CC, good move? I think so.
[327][322] Thanks! I hate that moderation thing.
C'mon Tesh!!
And that's why Randy Johnson was a mythical beast. He could pitch anytime, anywhere, like Travis Bickel.
Worthless.
Is it too late to bat Teix 8th?
Sorry but Tex really really really sucjs
Oh look. Mark Teixeira popped out
[337] Much like Hegel.
ANOTHER FAT PITCH. FUCK!
[330] Darling concurs.
Imagine Fister in a Twins uniform, that should get them going.
Is teix ever going to get a hit?
Yanks are due...
This might be Fister's last inning.
A start! Let's GO JORGIE. JUICE ONE YOU OLD FUCK.
Bingo!
[337] Yes, that was crazy how Brenly used him in game 6 of 2001 WS.
Nice, Swish.
Good boy, Nick.
Right here, right now, cockwads!
Hit the baseball!
[351] And in '95.
Maybe a clutch hit now - who am I kidding - no fucking way
[346] Didn't he double in the second inning? Maybe I was hallucinating.
CC gonna pull a 2003 Moose?
[332] Sign and trade!
TEN FEET OUTSIDE!!!
Hip hip - DP Jorge
Try swinging this time, Jorge.
[346] Didn't he get a couple on Tuesday?
FUck.
Just hit it back up the middle, Jorgie...nice and easy...
Wow, neither are those were strikes... Sheesh
[335] It's win or go home. Everyone's available
Changes the complexion of the AB
CC looked gassed just from warming up.
no stranding!
[363] Probably wouldn't work, the SS is playing about a foot to the SS of the bag.
Pfister? Are you pfucking pkiddingnme?
Fighten them off. C'mon Jorge!
They need to get something out of this rally...
This is 9 innings of panic time
Oh dear
YES!
JORGIE!!!
FUCKING HELL, TEAM, PLEEEEEASE!!!!
'ray, old guys!
[369] Well, shut my mouth!
Good hold, he would have been out at home. HAVE to get at least one run here!!
Jorge Posada = MVP
Cut Teix and move Jorge to first.
Jorge!
Good hold. Score. These. Motherfucking. Runs.
Great at bat. Smart play by Robbie. He was a dead duck, Alex that is.
All right, Jorgie!
Now it's time to cash in some of these runners.
Russell with the Muscle puts the V back in Vicious!
By the way, THIS is the game
WTF, Robby?!!
yay Po. Now someone has got to come through with a big hit.
Oh PLEASE bring in Phil Coke! Please please please!
NO STRANDING! NO LOBs!
Jorge! and now we get into their bullpen..
Pinch run for Jorge.
Cmon Russel!
Oh dear, it's GiDP Bodie.
Please, PLEASE don't GiDP here.
Yeah, not wise to run on Austin Jackson
One swing, Russell, and you're a Yankee forever
[382] Call me greedy.
There's something that would be really good right now.
[368] Not Al-Al?
[397] I'd settle for half of what you're thinking of.
[393] Or line or fly into a dp for that matter
COCKSUCKING HORSEFUCKERRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!
merde
Wow, that pitch was better than the last one... Blue's zone is crazy
Another fat ptich. motherfucker.
OH FUCK
Not that.
nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Crap
Ugh.
squeeze
Only a K would have been worse. JFC!
Last fucking guy I wanted up there in Martin. FUCKKKKKKKKKKK
oh brother.
We seem to be so fucked
Good check, Brett...
Brett's going to walk.
[411] Well, or a DP.
Not that swing.
Now, Gardy: You are NOT Babe Ruth. Think gap single. Move the line.
c'mon gritner! hope!
C'mon BRETT!
[410] lol
That was a strike too...
Look to just poke it into left, BRett...
I'll take a walk here.
Take all the way.
CF playing mad shallow, shading other way
whoa...
Shoulda let that one go
girardi's gonna beat him w a switch.
Lean into it rudy stein
I am a nervous fucking wreck.
I'm going to lose it if he Ks looking..
Well, shit
I am going to cry.
dfalkj;faldsjfdls;kfjsad;lkjfsd;lkdfsja;lkfsdjl;kfdsjfdsowe0wu9weu[039932
That sucked.
This team fucking sucks.
Ohhhhh.
Deflating.
Godfuckingdamnit
fucking Brett.
Letting that cocksucker off the hook. They had fucking pitches to drive all fucking inning.
nerts
Fucking bupkiss.
Fuck me. I smelled that coming. I still say they should have sent A-Rod.
OMFGFTETERRTRYFTFTFTRSR
I am so frustrated I want to throw myself into a wall.
FUCK
CY Big Train Bob Pedro Mother Fucking Fister.
Okay, I have to leave Banter now. Sorry. This isn't working for me.
Well that sucked, but we will be into the soft underbelly of the Detroit bullpen soon.
[440] All fucking innning.
Be nice if they could score someone
Shoulda taken the walk, Gardy.
[428] I think that was potentially the "not a strike, being called a strike pitch" they've been calling all night long.
This feels awful. Fuck.
At least now when Jeter Ks it will be with the bases empty.
#thatisnotasilverlining
#alsothisisnottwitteriamaware
CC Shut 'em Down like PE! The Bats will eventually come through!
Fucking Baby Fister. They should be eating this guy up.
And all three outs were lazy flyballs/popups.
Well he can't be any less sharp than he was less time.
Looking ahead: Does Eric Chavez feature a knuckleball or something?
When was the last time a starting pitcher had three appearances in a division series?
Pathetic.
Just fucking pathetic.
Oh god.
So if the Yankees win this game (which is not happening), whats the pitching lineup for Texas - Garcia, Colon and Burnett?
fucking fuck
I really want Girardi to tell us what a success this season was after the game.
How come they NEVER zoom in on pitches on the blue that are called balls? Dear God. This game sucks!
Oh wunnerful
So was this Girardi's plan? To have a tired starting pitcher who's never pitched in relief save the season?
Ha! I thought Darling was going to say, "Yeah, your offense has really sucked, what gives?"
Nova injured I guess. "Tightened up."
How long can CC pitch in this game and still make a start in ALCS game 2?
Nova had whiplash. Who are they kidding?
How about letting Alex stay home on the bunt? Give CC a chance on a hard comebacker
[469] Next year?
Well, the decision to go with a six man rotation all in one game is not paying immediate dividends.
[469] I admire your optimism! LET'S GO YANKEES!
This pretty clearly is not working
In other news, Founders Porter is very good.
So Girardi said that Nova "tightened up a bit?" WHY DOES JOE GIRARDI HATE ARCHIE BELL & THE DRELLS?
[446] Come back later, RIYank!
That's better.
I hate Delmon Young.
[474] I'm a fucking FAN! Of course I believe my team will come back!
In other news... HOW WAS THAT NOT STRIKE GODDAMN THREE?? (okay.. I guess blue has to call it when the batter whiffs)
Whiskey, also
Thought that blooper was trouble.
[477] Gold!!!
He's going to get Delmon out, bro.
Enough of CC - fat bastard always winds up out of shape when it counts most - let him walk and go with the young guns next season
Fuck off D Young. Here's the scary AB.
[486] You did watch the '09 post-season, right?
Good move.
[486]
...
No?
Victor. Another scary AB.
Ballgame.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
That blows. Still, get out of this, they are still in it.
Shit!
[477] Well played, sir!
Brutal. This feels grim.
492) Nah, it's not.
Rats. One more out.
[486]hard to disagree at this point, and he looks like he's gained 30 pounds since June
This fucking blows.
Slider. Right down the middle, according to gameday
Wade...uh-oh.
(488) One decent pst-season and the rest is shit
Look what happens when you don't try for a five-run HR on every swing. Can we try some of that?
Three runs for Detroit is not the problem. The ****ing Yankees not scoring is the problem.
I am so upset right now, it's ridiculous.
Man, got away with one there.
it's not on the pitching when we're getting shutout. Fist the Fister!
phew
Good job. Top of the order. Time to do some damage!
Good.
Now FUCKING HIT, YOU WASTRELS!
[506] Absol-f'in'-lutely so.
C'mon you guys! Keep HOPE ALIVE!
FIVE INNINGS, THREE RUNS
COME ON
BATS
COME ON, DO THIS
OK. Top of the order. Let's go!
Girardi can't seriously bring Wade in can he? CC may have to go 1 more.
Let the Captain start it off!
Now it is possible to remember times when this team treated a 3 run deficit with 5 innings to play as less than a speed bump on the way to victory lane.
sigh
c'mon Banter! This shite ain't over! Yanks are done with stranding baserunners! 6 is ENOUGH! RUNS!
ANDY! FIRE UP THE SCORETRUCK!
This is it. Fister was throwing bp last inning. Square up some fastballs and keep the line moving.
My phone and my TV are each less than a year old and I'm gonna bill the Yankees if they force me to throw one through the other
They got through to Fister in Game 1 in the 6th, right?
[505]live by the hr, die by the hr
Unfuckingbelievable.
that's some weak sauce right there.
Or that. Really, Jeter.
of COURSE it's a stinkin 1st pitch out, goddam it
Top of the order, 3rd time around against Fister.
Hm..Leland is going into full defense mode.
Jeter, why must you always swing at the first goddamn pitch.
Man, I think that Sausage Egg McMuffin I had for breakfast was a bad idea.
Yeah it's very frustrating because Fister didn't pitch his way out of that jam in the fourth. That was pure Yankee fuckery. I'm looking at you, Russell "Fartin'" Martin.
Making this cocksucker look better than he is.
Jetes, setting the tone... *sigh*
The Yankees know this game counts, right? That it's not an exhibition?
Seaon's over - baseball sucks anway
That's it, make him work. *FUCK*
Wow, this team is absolutely feckless.
Yay, another out. Not looking good.
I actually think a HR would be very nice right here. Wake the fuck up!
If Robbie gets on, Alex is going deep.
Et tu, Granderson?
Rally Killer here, Robinson. Let's get some juice.
538) Feckless. Ron Darling: "Languid. OH yeah, baby! I'm down with the big word posse!
Listen to the guys in the booth trying to cover for the Yankee hitters, praising the subtle mastery of Doug Pfister.
FUCK YEAH!
Thank you, Robbie.
That's one.
Hear that hum?
THERE WE GO!
Hmm.
Robbie!
Don'tcha know!!
Now that's the kinda shit I like! 3-1 folks...gas up the mutha-scratchin' truck.
Got one back
Better.
Kinda felt like you were gonna need one of those to break the seal.
Thanks for fulfilling my request, Robbie
Robbed.
Fuck. Hoped that was gonna hit the bag.
At least we won't get shutout.
le sigh
and then thud.
Ugh Robbie's styling is borderline .... You're THIS close to looking like a dick there Cano
Bloop & a blast next inning.
[545] Fister is pretty damn good. His numbers were tremendous all year, even when he was stuck in Seattle and couldn't buy a win.
Please tell me it's CC and not Wade. Please.
CC, So, Ro, Mo - whatever combination gets you to 9.
That ball was smoked and it was beautiful but a single last inning would have plated two.
No. More. Runs for the Tigers=Yanks victory.
Yay, Robbie.
3-1 ... we got the run we just gave them back.
Yay!
I wonder if it'll be CC or Wade. I've got no call on it. But think it'll be Wade.
[565] I saw that from the first start he threw against us. He's no slouch. But the Yanks do seem to have the ability to chip away at him.
Now we need some blanks thrown at them and then for the love of it all, some more RUNS
[565] And that has nothing to do with tonight, when he's left plenty of fat pitches over the plate, and the Yankees have done FUCK ALL with them.
This is on the bats.
So what the hell do I know?
[563] You can't stop smoooth. ; )
Okay. Bottom of the order. Set em down and grab the bats!
Way to get ahead. Now bury him, big guy.
[544] :)
He is a fellow Yalie, after all.
Wow, doesn't CC have a languid delivery? :)
1,2,3 Big Fella!
way to go
Fuck you, announcers!
More CC?
I have a funny feeling Big Tex and Swish are going to do something this inning
Actually the thought of CC getting the win in relief of Nova is fairly appealing.
"Forearm tightness" for Nova.
At this point, I'd actually hope that's bullshit, since that's often a precursor to a TJ ...
[572] Agreed.
2-2, set him down, man.
gouda!
I'm feeling confident, they can take this game! I want D-Rob in soon though!
Not awesome.
Does anyone else with TW Cable in NYC have the sound drop out for a couple seconds every so often?
Good night, CC.
Wow.
Fucking Verducci. I think the cliche "deja vu all over again," which defies even the most twisted logic, should be a hanging offense.
Girardi's crazy
Does Nunez have a forkball?
He's bringing in Soriano? I can't have much of a problem with that. Now please work.
this is truly a Johnny Allstaff.
Pull ... click.
Pull ... click.
Pull ... misfire.
Pull ... ???
Can we all agree that this is the stupidest fuckng ballgame we've ever seen?
I think Girardi may be trying to bore then Tigers into submission
[591] I have Charter Comm in Western MA and every so often the sound and picture stutters
This is gut wrenching.
Oh, Sori. Mr. Levine is watching you...
[577] You are too?
I know my expletive-laden gutter mouth is a tip off, in my case.
This has been strangely unappealing.
I have TWC and the sound drops from time to time.
C'mon Sori
YES! Now, here COMES THE MOTHERTRUCKING SCOREFUCK!
That's why Cano's allowed to style. Nobody like him.
[604] Randy pouring himself a Campari & Soda now!
can defense light the fire?
That was pretty.
Good, DP Now bats come alive!
That worked out well. Now some runs?
Ok, game still well in hand...we can still win this motherfucker...
Ok, Pfister, Scherzer, whoever - get this going.
How many pitches has Pfister thrown?
LUCK!
Just what we needed!
NOW, SCORE YOU BASTARDS.
Santiago helped the Yankee cause in so many ways with that one AB. He's gotta be in contention for unofficial ALDS MVP when the Yanks win this shite!
[614] Still with us? deep in the night in the Black Forest isn't it?
[616] my scorecard says 94.
[610] That's a girl's drink. Is Randy a.....?
[608] What you said!!!
I've calmed somewhat. I dunno if I'm optimistic or I've given up
[602] Thanks - probably unrelated I imagine though
tex. Start it.
Thanks, [620].
RUNS PLEASE
Be patient. Get on base. Hit line drives.
Now on to the Tiggers pen...
Be wild, you fuck
Let it hit you, Teix!
Uh...Good eye. LOL
Yankee bats - awake!
Mmm. I've seen that swing before
I'm watching the game on Time-Warner of North Carolina and every couple of minutes John Smoltz says something that makes me want to kick him in the dick. Is that happening to anyone else?
Terrible, terrible hack.
What is your plan up there, Mark?
Teix has no shot on that pitch.
Good cut!
We need sustained momentum.
Good. Fucking. EYE!
Dear God. Get on base.
Jesus, Tex
Oh, MAN. That was there!
Please no more pop ups. Please.
That shit was right down the middle
Remember when we used to bring Coke in to give up HR to lefties?
fuck
634] Ha,ha,ha,ha...
arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Darn.
Dammit
I just lost a breath..he JUST missed that one.
So is Leyland smoking?
ARGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Honestly I enjoyed the Cano HR but let's just get some regular old hits. Just see what happens
Teix needs to seriously work on his balance up there.
I do question the Rodriguez-Teixeira-Swisher lineup;
Amen, [648]
Fuck
Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit.
Just missed it.
Where did all the "NYS home runs" we kept hitting in Comerica go?
Swish!
CHILL THE FUCK OUT!!!
GODDAMN YOU PEOPLE!
gut wrenching
Hang in there, Swish.
Yeah Swisher has been tough to watch
Very, very weak.
I dread what the Yankees are going to do when they set their sites on next year
Scherzer looks like he just stepped outta Mad Magazine.
This team is killing me.
Killing me.
There's plenty of time in this game still. I don' think I'll truly get worried till the 8th, as long as it stays at 3 for the Tigers
Another Solo job would really calm my nerves.
Base runners. man. We need um.
Going out like Silence of the Lambs.
BLUE!!!
Nice, Jorgie.
Nice one.
YES
Hey all, I'm a little late - wtf is going on? Is Nova ok? Is Hughes? Has Girardi lost his mind?
And did an IBB lead to the 3rd run?
And where is the Score Truck already?!
[668] I miss Luis Sojo!
Pinch runner please?
Nice easy swing.
I'll take it!
Time for Russ to go yardski.
Y'es, Jorge!
Send him!
[kidding]
Crap.
I HAVE ZERO CONFIDENCE IN RUSSELL MARTIN.
Why? He kind of stinks.
The wife: "I'm not enjoying this."
Me: "You're not supposed to be enjoying this, babe."
The wife: "I'm just sayin'."
Posada = MVP
Whether we score here or not we need to keep Schzerzer not to pitch another inning.
do it for thelarmis, COLTRANE!
[675] No, Yes, Yes, No, Detroit
[675] Yes
shit
Martin is very tense at the plate.
We all miss Luis Sojo. Everyone except Leiter, I guess. Love that guy.
That sucked big.
Martin is killing this team.
Worst. Swing. Ever.
Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
Did I mention I have no confidence in Russell Martin? And that he stinks?
Oh my god.
Brutal.
Absolutely goddamned brutal.
Martin is embarassing himself.
fooled him.
Wasn't particularly close to that ball.
Thanks, guys. That sucked.
What the fucking, fuck???!!!
[685] That was more like a Najee type swing unfortunately.
So, now, D. Robinson, right?
Little League swing Rus
p.s. The Yanks are winning this fucking game.
There was no reason to not bring in Montero there. If you're going to gamble with CC and crap like that, then you can gamble with your catcher. Martin is lost.
[664] Are they not playing in NYS next year?
Do ANY of these fuckng guys earn their salary???
7 baserunners stranded. 4 in scoring position. BULLSHIPS!
Russell's been death this game.
Shoulda pinch hit MONTERO
Guys, I think its over.
Was it a swing or a hack?
Let's remember that Russell Martin hit .236. He's not a good hitter. It is what it is.
Okay Banter - what is the recipe for success here?
TBS, did I REALLY need the 2001G7 replay there? Fuck you
710) IT. Is. NOT!
We can win this thing. But, not like this.
711) Whatever it was, it was flaccid.
ya gotta belieeeeeeve!
713) Faith!
[715] Second that!
[711] t'was a slow, bad golfswing.
So Mo will pitch the 9th just like 2004 - a total fucking waste
There we go. One gone.
Is it me or are there a ton of dropped Ks this series?
At least Girardi and Burnett will return next year
9 outs, meat of the order coming up. They'll use Benoit..or will it be Albeekerkee?
[713] hit HBP and a blast.
Two Strikes. Put him away!
YEAH
[713] Thinking middle of the field and not swinging themselves into the ground?
Swisher and Kelly should go play badminton.
Getting Scherzer out of there would be key. The other guys we can hit and in bunches.
Where is that pitch you piece of shit?
I feel so sick I can barely watch.
The Yanks are going to need yet another opportunity. Fister gave them chances including a real peach in the fourth. It seems kind of unlikely they are going to get a similar chance again, but we'll see.
I would love for the Yanks to get to that Valverde'. His antics cause bile to form.
Act III, Scene 1 so far, so good ... all we need is three.
So this Verlander stuff had to be a motivational tactic from Leyland, right?
p.s. If the Tigers still have the lead in the 9th it is only so that sombitch can blow his first save of the year, you know that shit, right?
Ok, it's getting late early...
Delmon Young through his bat at an umpire in the minor leagues in case anyone forgot.
I BELIEVE!
[721] Not unlike Charles Barkley's swing
[741] threw. boooooooooooooooooo
Folks, all we need is a bloop & a blast to tie this thing. We're winning this game.
Mute time.
Okay this is my last mellow batting half-inning for the Yanks. In the 8th and 9th I will be sweating bullets. On the other hand it will be worth it if it give them a chance to stick it to that douche Valverde
Why does TBS label r h e?
[739] Great minds think alike.
NOW NOW NOW
THIS HAPPENS NOW!!!!!!!
[739] I think that is called poetic justice.
[742][745][750] I stand whichoos!
Great job by Soriano. Totally unexpected.
Starts with Brett.
Boy do I hate this fucking God Bless America during the 7th inning stretch. Just a dumb ass knee-jerk response to 9/11 that means absolutely nothing at this point. We ALL love this country but we don't have to ritualistically sing this song every single game
[746] You don't watch it either?
Especially with it being Philly Kate Smith most nights, I refuse on multiple principles.
Ronan asked for too much money, right? Because he's the one I would listen to, because it brings back a lot of memories.
Oh, and ends when Teix plants one in the upper fucking deck!
Hear dat hummmm?
They can stick it to Benoit too for all I care. Then, the douche Valverde.
Do Sikhs have to remove their caps during God Bless America? Just wondering.
755) Stick to the game, off politics.
[760] I don't think anyone has to - don't you really only need to remove the cap during the Anthem?
Runs baby, runs baby, runs baby, runs baby, runs.....
[755] I couldn't agree more. So contrived.
[756] Ronan made some anti-Semetic remarks or something.
Let's GO BRETT!
[765] Oh, Ronan. I can't go with you there...
Feel the pressure, punk!
C'mon...3-0!
TAKE!
[756] Ronan was revealed as a Jew Hater. That's why he's gone.
Dag. Right down the shute.
[756] Ronan made some off color remarks, hasn't been invited back since.
That sucked.
OHHH, GODDAMNIT IT!
I fucking HATE this shit.
No you, Brett. God dammit!
Dammit
There was an AB.
This team us fucked.
Gardner. Jesus Christ. That's two heaters, right there.
That was a FAT pitch.
Uck fay!
778) Nothing is fucked. You're being very un-Dude.
Damn, please tell me this is Scherzer's last inning.
C'mon Captain, time for something!
IF Brett Gardner can't get on base with a 3-0 count, we're quite possibly fucked
You know, SOMEONE obviously hit Max Scherzer this year
Time to get positive!
We comped Jeffrey Maier tonight, right?
That was like being stabbed in the heart.
[786] Yay.
[784] he did everything he could. Couldn't get the fat part of the bat on 3-2 pitch. Was red-lighted on 3-0 & 3-1, as you'd expect.
way to hang tough, DJ!
TOUGH AB. Hang in there, boy-o.
It's just a baseball game, you know - where you get hits and score runs. So Yankees - yes, you are playing a baseball game; you've got that part well underway. Consider it an outline. Now you kind of have to color it in with some actual activity.
Damn, good hustle, Derek.
yesssssss!
Nice! Way to leg that out, DJ!
Safe!
Hope is the greatest thing!
Captain!
Infield hit. There we go. Sort of a bloop. Now the BLAST. Do it for MATT B!
Oh goody, a baserunner.
That feels like a huge spark. Like the Boggs walk.
[790] I'm not sure he was red lighted on 3-1
That's why we hustle. Boo-yah!
I love his hustle.
[801] Love that at-bat, right up there with O'Neill working Benitez for a walk. Man, that was awesome.
Hey if you can't have hope with a mere two run deficit at home, I don't know what to say. It's not like they're down by seven runs.
That being said, the squandered opportunities do sow the seeds of doubt.
Did they PR for Jeter?
[802] well, me neither, but after that fuckstickle at 3-1 in the 4th inning I'm betting CoffeeJoe said hold it, kid.
This could be gross
take that band aid off bitch.
[806] This isn't a good or particularly interesting baseball game. If I didn't have hope, I wouldn't be watching
That's weird.
That's like a Billy Martin trick.
Is that a zit?
Benoit cut himself shaving or something?
Did he get bit by a snake? What the hell is that wound?
Now he will use the ooze to slick up the ball
What's so fucking strange about NOT wanting to have a pitcher with that oft colored thing on his cheek forfuck's sake. A tick away from the release point.
[814] I think so. Nasty.
Well Torre missed the pine tar. Girardi catches the band aid.
Grandy, PLEASE!
Cripes, Curtis, don't ground into a double play!
Welp, it ain't boring.
My damn feed is lagging.
Had to go to a feed as mlb.tv's "companion coverage" is a disaster. Thanks, and fuck you.
The Granderson at bat hasn't happened I hope
[811] I agree but on the other hand that wasn't directed at you
Take, take, take. Wait for one to drive.
[808] I think Gardner's style of hitting suggests he was gonna take until he had two strikes or walked.
Way to take that...
2-1 baby. Zone one.
Even better. LEt's GO!
Lock and Load, Curtis.
Now!
Damn, Derek, take a lead
Should've left in Scherzer
Oh, Jesus!
swung at ball four
Pressing. Ball 4. Ugh.
I hope that doesn't kill them...
little hit
Benoit is going to fuck up here
[827] werd
Nice job!
Lovely!
Base hit.
Good.
PLEASE, Robbie.
YES YES YES!
C'mon, Score Truck!
They don't have the stones to walk Robbie, right?
Called it [840]
AND I called the Robbie hr! Sort of
Jeter should be at 3rd! Jeeeeeesus!
Would you do a double steal if we had a righty up?
Jeez this is getting tight.
No DP
HOly fuck, what a break.
A tapperino.
luck!
yes, it's okay to believe again ... Let's go!
Hmm
Holy Fuckin Shit....Mystique & Aura are back, boyeeeee!
Cano hahahaha ... Ah shit.
My kinda weird!
YIkes. Even Robbie liked that one.
Lookey Lookey.
C'mon Tex - redemption time!
Do we take a sac fly here?
Benoit Balls!
Oh, Alex. Pretty please?
Pop that zit!!
cranking my 2009 rally music - Small Faces' "Ogden's Nut Gone Flake"
PLEASE get that runner from 3rd
Good eye, Al.
Nice and easy, nice and lose.
Up the middle, just like in 2009.
Nice. Alex is not the tight mess he once was
HEAR THAT HUMMM?
Por favor!!
[861] Whoops, sorry, forgot about the lineup change. Its been a long effing week.
C'mon A-Rod - redemption time!
homina, homina, homina
[868] LOOSE
Just a single to keep the line moving.
You got this, Alex.
Benoit seems nervous
In his head. Capitalize!
Oh, the pressure.
[861] Tex?
Think Kate Hudson!
Please, ARod, please
Smash one up the middle.
Nooooo!
Stay back, Al, stay BACK!
[875] As RIYank and I once said, "We want a non-out event! We want a non-out event!"
IT ALWAYS COMES DOWN TO AROD!!!!!!!!!
Just fucking missed it.
Fuck fuck fuck fuck.
That was a good swing!
FUCK. That was it.
jussssst missed
Breaking pith, followed by a fastball.
Fuuuuuuck ...Missed
Wants that one back
There it was!
just missed.
(Where's Chavez when you need him?)
That was the pitch..damn it..
God awful. It was right there. Now he makes him chase. Watch.
SHORT swing...
No DP
Get the run in
Non-out event!
[898] Fuck, almost.
An out here will not endear Mr Rodriguez to the fans
Way to hold off.
Good take. Wow.
FAIL
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
ugh
FAILURE TO EXECUTE!
Fucking LONG-ass swing.
Goddamn it, Alex.
Two chances with bases loaded and one out with nary a run scored
Brutal
Rodriguez-Teixeira-Swisher is gonna be the fatal flaw
Piss poor. Damn, this team needs a hit.
Pinch hit for teix
God dammit, A-Rod - WTF were you swinging at?
OK, now its redemption time, Tex!
[861] Now you got it.
C'mon TEX!
God fucking damnafion!
Good. EYE
Teix has him where he wants him.
This sux
Let him hang himself
Listen, Teix, if the ball comes at you, LEAN INTO IT!
Take the walk here, Teix
damnation even.
Three and oh...
Nice
Woof.
don't you dare swing that bat.
I'll take 1 run
[916] Eventually I catch up. :)
goodeyegoodeyegoodeye..am i the only one that wants Teix to not swing here at ALL?
Hey, let me swing 3-0? LOL
Get that fucking run in for chrissakes
The automatic.
Here comes the pop up
WORD
A ruins a run.
sweet enough!
Hell yeah. Now a hit!
Okay.
That's a fucking strike.?
I'll take it. God, can Swisher do anything here?
Nice, Teix
Huuuuuuuuge! Now it would be nice for Swisher to show up!
SWISH! Let's go fruit job.
Come on you lovely thug
YAY!
Two infield singles, one real hit and a walk.
I'll take it.
change up, first pitch?
I mean run is a run.
C'mon Swish!
Swish..swing away?
Swisher is going to have to get verrrrry lucky for this to work out in his team's favor. It happens though - it's baseball!
Fucking Nick, shorten your goddamned swing. A little fucking single up the middle is TWO RUNS!
YOU DON'T HAVE TO HIT IT TO THE MOON!
DOn't swing for the fences here, Swish, just get a base knock
Ok Swish, a bases clearing double would be awesome, but if I can't have that, I want a non-out event!
C'mon, Nick!
Swisher has an angel saying "be patient, good eye" on one shoulder and a devil saying "swing for the fences" on the other
Gimme a single here Swish
Bullshit high strike
Good eye, son.
FUCK YOU, NICK!
WTF WAS THAT????
You can't hit that fucking pitch.
Terrible
great 1-1 change.
Good gravy Swish - do not make an out
Don't chase outside - let him come to you!
Jeezus that was a whiffle ball swing.
Luck requirement is extremely high now
That was awfully close.
Holy cow. 2-2. Back to the change?
Swisher is a joke.
Fail. Again. Big goddamn fucking FAIL.
Son of a bitch!
Have to go with D Rob here and not Mo.
You suck, NIck.
That was disgraceful.
WHY are you trying to PULL that pitch?
Fuck you.
That was the least strike-like pitch of the AB
Its probably time to pull Swisher
That was ball 3.
If you can't take advantage of the opportunities that are handed to you then you don't deserve to win, goddamm it all to hell
I'm losing my positivity because frankly, the Yankees do not deserve to win this game or this series.
p.s. Yanks are winning this game.
Valverde might be these jokers' only hope.
Epic offenseive fail to this point.
The boys can stil do it but this is painful.
Why the fuck is this guy batting behind Teixera still? AWFUL PLAYOFF PLAYER. Go the other way, everything was outside because they know what you're trying to do.
infield hit, squib hit, walk...one run. A-Rod & Swish whifftastic.."O" is really letting us down.
TWO fucking Ks when all we needed was solid contact.
This team sucks, we're lucky to have the two runs we do.
980) You will get a present tonight anyhow. They are winning. And that's word to Todd Drew.
[977] Really, when are we gonna see Jesus?
[986] I'm not saying it can't happen or won't happen, but this has been some bush-league nonsense with runners on base. The middle of our lineup is a suck-hole.
Do we have ANYONE who doesn't choke in the clutch?
[987] He has to bat for Martin next inning, right?
Biggest two outs of the night coming up.
Finally found a non-lag stream. FUCKING SWISH. Jesus.
I like Swisher but his approach has been awful and generally he sucks in the playoffs. Maybe it's time for him to go on his merry little way.
Now, where is that pitch?
That curveball is a strike.
WTF, blue? That was a nasty pitch and a goddamn strike!
[984] Teix lucked out to get a walk. He'd have popped out if it came down to it.
Okay: I'm comfortable now calling "3" the Tigers' final score. Up to our guys' bats now.
3 balls on the blue. 2-1. I love the blue box.
It is hard to not have some feeling that Swish maybe needed to not be trotted out for at bat after at bat to fail painfully.
Still, 3-2 after 7.
[991] one could argue that the biggest 2 outs of the night just happened.
Two bases loaded, one out = one run (walked in)
Not good
Onions.
D ROB!
I love D-Rob. Love!
Awwww, poor wittle Delmon Young.
That high fastball to Martinez was called a strike for several Yankees last inning. I hate this ump.
That was a wiffle ball pitch! I love DRob.
1001) Could. Sure. But let's see...still plenty of time.
I am furious with this team right now.
LIVID.
I mean, really, WTF *was* that?
Alex' swing looked like an elephant's trunk.
[990] He CANNOT let him hit.
Can Robertson's pitching performance inspire the offense? It's making me feel better (or it might be the beer)
[1009] werd. I'm an optimist. Annnnnd I'm scoring the game.
C'mon D Rob.
Is the ump squeezing the plate? I sense a narrowing.
Right after him now, D-Rob. Nothing for free.
Huge out. On a 3-1 pitch. Yes!
Attaway.
No, Ron, do NOT "credit the Tigers' pitching."
Bull fucking shit.
These hitters have been a disgrace.
See, there he is. Mr. I'm Gunna Blow My First Save. Warming up.
I want Valverde to go down! Is that too much to ask?
Bloop and a blast bottom of the inning.
One really has to question allowing Swisher to occupy that hole in the lineup night after night. It's just been death. Painful death.
Jesus to bat. Jorge to catch. Do it do it do it
So does Martin bat next inning?
Here we go yo, here we go yo!
Good work, D-Rob.
JESUS!
For the love of Jesus, put Him in!
Let's go, bottom of the order!!!
[1023] Where's Jerry Hairston Jr. when you need him? :)
D Rob smashed them.
Posada's been good - I don't think you can let Martin hit - I have no problem with Gritner getting to bat.
Pinch hit Jesus for Martin! To hell with his defense.
I have to admit, Joe's pitching moves have gone quiet well. Only one run since he hooked Nova.
2 lucky fuck homers and a 2 out hit off CC. The Yanks Can Not and Must Not lose this game.
2 innings to score here...very do-able. But damn! C'MON YANKEES!
[1032] I know and I was pretty critical when he took out Hughes.
Let's Go OLD GUY
[1023] Swish has not been good. But they've been pitching around Cano to get to the alleged clean-up hitter.
Damn. Good swing. Just missed it.
Hearing that it could be Jorge's final AB as a Yankees is kinda sad
I hope Jorge makes this announcer eat his fucking words.
[1032] Taking out Sabathia was the only real head-scratcher for me
late. now here comes the change.
sigh
Jeez...anyone else is safe.
GODDAMN IT!
Posada..that could be his last AB. He really legged it out but just too slow..
I'm going to cry. :(
Wow, if only Posada could actually run a little
Martin? for real?
Sore old Jorge could teach Swish a thing about legging those out
That would be a pretty fitting final Jorge AB though. Almost beating out an infield single.
Damn, that was close
Girardi, HOW DO YOU LET MARTIN BAT HERE??!
okay, two outs, moving on...
base hit, Russ. Cut down on that hack, Conan.
Martin hitting here is pure BS.
WHYYYYYYYYYYY??????????????
[1050] Yeah ...
CHRIST.
Sure. Swing at a 55 footer in the dirt.
Oh hell, I can't watch another Martin AB
That was the worst swing of the night. Martin is lost.
FUCKING HELL!
Like we can afford to just squander one of five outs?
what the motherfuck?
Girardi maybe oping for a HR
Leaving Montero unused may be the biggest mistake of the night.
Way to lay off that shite.
[1061] His K swing earlier was pretty awful.
Throw 2 over his head!
[1061] Sadly, that wasn't his worst swing of the night
That's the only upside to Martin - he CAN run into one here. Shitty as he is
This is like when Torre let Justice hit in 2001.
Take take take take take take! Let him throw you a nice juicy meatball you can crush, Martin!
Benoit, I'll give you a hint: Let him hit the ball
Whoever said fuck the defense is right. You d could catch Mo. And the Tigers don't run.
Oh my god.
FUCK you, Joe.
boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
I didn't have time to type it but I said "Strikeout. I guarantee it"
He's killed us. KILLED US.
[1046] Sad, isn't it? Last AB
Painful.
[1064] I was thinking that too, but who would you have pinch hit him for? Martin? Swisher? Posada? I'm not sure any of those would have made sense.
Ditto Gardner.
Let's go Brett. Get on.
I'm buying into the firsst bs for Valverde tonight
Now Gardner wants to hit it out.
[1080] Martin
Oh they can definitely get a run off of Valverde...but this has been a very uninspiring offensive performance.
I would have pinch hit my mother for Martin.
Whaaaaaaaa?
RUN
Keep. Hope. ALIVE!
So who pitches game 1 on sat? AJ?
Ok. That works.
Brett Gardner rocks
Leyland is going to pass out. LOL
2 out ribeye somewhere! Let's go!
Non-out event! Non-out event!
The biggest advantage the Yanks have now is that Leyland doesn't have any other relievers he trusts, and there's almost no way he'll bring in Valverde. He just doesn't do it.
If you don't motherfucking steal early in the count I will lose my shit, Gardner
RUNRUNRUNRUN
Derek, please
Come on Jeter....
I lost my shit anyway.
He tried!
Now I'm crying.
That was a backbreaker.
Way to fucking fly out, Cap'n. Shit. Shit. Shit.
this SUCKS
It feels like that's it. Just missed by a fraction of a cunt hair.
Unbelievable. I just swallowed the tongue.
I fear that might be it folks.
The Swisher and Martin AB are going to last a while.
godfuckingdammit!
Hey guess what kids? If no-one gets on, A Rod makes the final AB!!
Oh My God, how can this be so painful.
That had such a chance. Dammit. OWWWWW.
Robertson, imo.
And sacrilege, but man, it's almost like you've got to pinch hit for A Rod.
My God, I thought we were about to take the lead.
Muther Fucking First Pitching Swinging....AGAIN! Let your boy steal. Make the pitcher work ferchrissake!
This just sets up the Valverde blown save.
[1109] Oh no..I won't be able to watch that, he's just a shell right now..
"Lord, it's me Wally ..."
Seriously we have Granderson, then Cano. We have a great shot here.
At least we get to watch Mo now.
1109) You are right. A Rod is hitting a walk off homer. Last ab of the night!
Did Girardi intend that as a hit-and-run? I'd have preferred to see Jetes take for a straight steal.
[1107] don't kid. Mo in for the 9th. Then we got Grandy, Cano, and Rodriguez up against old news. C'mon...
I'm fucking worried about game 1 against TX. Serious.
[1112] Nothing I want to see more, but nothing I want see less than that ass-clown dancing around. It's sure to be 50 times as awful.
I can't believe any of this shit.
It's unbelievable.
Yanks are winning.
Why couldn't that have been blown over by a magic gust????
I still think the Yanks will win. Mo gets 3 easy outs, Granderson gets on base, Cano with the series-winning HR - and bring on the Rangers!
Me, I have a ridiculously early meeting tomorrow so I have got to get to bed. Last time I went to sleep before a playoff game ended it was Game 6 in 2001 ALCS. That one worked out just fine - I hope this one does too!
[1111] He stood around FOREVER waiting for Gardner to steal last time
That never works. See, a good sign!
Smooth moves Teix
One out.
[1123] Or Jeffrey Maier
Boy, they are making Mo work, huh?
Hahahahah.
Wow.
Mariano Rivera, ladies and gentlemen.
Yanks are winning!
Mattpat - good point.
You think Jeter and Gardner migh chat before the inning so they could get on the sam page. Mother fucker!
Strike two.
I'm calling it, AB has got me tooptimisit now, Grandy solo tater, Robbie walk, A-Rod bomb. Yanks win 5-3.
6 pitches.
Wow.
I almost don't care if we lose now, that was so beautiful to behold.
Thanks, Mo.
p.s. Yanks are winning. A Rod. Walk Off.
Impressive. That was the most enjoyable part of this game thus far...until the walk off that is.
If it ends here, makes me warm to see an inning like that from Mo. (And two more if they tie it.)
Oh for the love of Mo make this ridicuous arrogant ass blow it right here. Righ Now!
2 broken bats, priceless
Mo was just DEVASTATING.
I'll tell you one thing we need:
Granderson NEEDS TO HAVE A GOOD AT BAT.
He needs to be tenacious and disciplined.
We need you, Curtis.
And then, unleash the apocalypse
[1136] I will accept your superfluous ending.
[1137] i had 5. hmmm
Well, here we go
[1125] I was missing the bastard
All Together NOW:
LET'S GO YANK-EES!
Don't let this game be decided while I was still in the shower.
Please.
GO
I'm going to over load the bourbon, hate to have to put it in the freezer . . .
[1149] CLAP, CLAP, CLAP CLAP CLAP!
hi.
i'm home just in time for the walk-off win and pie celebration with you all!!!
Whatever happens, what a privelege to watch Mariano again for another season.
I'm trying to believe and to hope and to keep from crying
Umm..did that TBS a-hole just say Vavlverde has a case for MVP?
karmic realignment time!
He just said Valverde has a case for MVP.
[1149] What he said!
Good take, Curtis...
Good eye! Your count now.
[1149] Let's go Yankees!
WALK HIM!
c'mon curtis!!!
FUCK
Weak ass shit. C'MON YANKEES WAKE UP!
Love pop ups.
tie the game, robbie!
ok .... I'm here to change the vibe!
Yanks will win this.
Ah well.
shit, I thought that was a hit
Christ.
Fuck.
I'm going to cry.
This sucks.
C'mon Alex!
crap.
last out.
do it, alex!
Ah Robbie..
I can't watch this A-Rod AB..
It always comes down to A-Rod.
HIT IT TO BUCKNER!
zen.
That wasn't a bad pitch to swing at, I got no problem with that
Don't like A-Rod here. He just looks old, sad to say. I hope I'm wrong.
bloop and a blast????
[1178] Nice Diane!
Oh, godDAMNit, Alex...
Uh oh
what are you looking at, a-rod?
I really want Valverde not to rip off his jersey or whatever the fuck he does
Jesus A Rod!!!
*grumble, grumble, grumble*
Pitching was the worry and the offense shits the bed when needed most. Sounds about right.
I'm going to bed. What a fucking disaster.
Good morning, good afternoon, good night
Boo!
sigh ....
Well, that's that. Just not good enough
SADNESS
God fucking damnit!
of course...
Well that sucked
Fuck this shit. We go into the post-season with no starting pitching and it's the bats that let us down? Bullshit.
I hate everyone.
i don't believe it.
: (
Well, we only have A-Rod signed for another...what 7 years?
11 men LOB.. they have no one to blame but themselves. Sucks ass.
Yankee bats need to take a fucking bath. I am disgusted
A-Flop
sigh
ARod was total shit this series. Chavez should have been in there.
They choked, plain and simple. Plain and simple. At least Jorge went out with his guns blazing.
One thing - ALL FUCKING NIGHT THAT FIRST PITCH TO A ROD IS NOT A STRIKE
A lot of fun this season, but what a bitter fucking end.
Swisher completely spit the bit.
That game was decided in the first.
Ugh, it's over.
..and we won't see Jorge again...
涙。。
I HATE VALVERDE
Hard to win if you don't hit.
And fucking hell, there was a superabundance of pitches to hit.
They can't even put the bat on the baseball.
Lame.
Yanks didn't deserve to win this game but they still deserve our love. Proud to be a fan and grateful for the company of the Banter. Now pardon me while I ignore all newspapers and radios for several days. 'Night all.
What a fucking waste of 6-plus months
Very big drag. Give the Tigers credit. Good pitching tonight. And the Yanks really squandered their chances. They were in it. Just didn't have any good abs with runners on. The didn't deserve to win.
Bummer way to end the season.
Probably shouldn't have gone to 5. The 4,5,6 in the Yankee lineup were absolute garbage
What a bind - all good sense said series-wise, you have to pinch hit for A Rod. But you can't really, can you?
Martin should have definitely been pinch hit for.
I can't believe after all those opportunities, it ends like that.
Jeter was so fucking close.
"Yanks didn't deserve to win this game but they still deserve our love. Proud to be a fan and grateful for the company of the Banter."
Absolutely. Here here!
I like to see what our 4-5-6 guys did. Not a lot, I kow.
Martin, A-Rod, and Swisher just had to be competent. Just competent tonight. And they shit the bed.
Well, picked a bad week to give up sniffing glue. Sheeeeeeet
Farewell Jorge ....
[1216] I honestly think the Yanks should've swept. Wasted way too many opportunities. Just pathetic.
[1219] 4-5-6-8 was a disaster.
I feel like a crumpled newspaper, kicked into the corner of a room of debris.
Alex and Teix and Swisher didn't hit. What are you going to do? They were 1 run away. They were in the game. They did better than we would have expected all year. They had their chance. They just didn't come through. It's OK. They'll be back next year.
Hey, I still love the Yankees and will wear my Yankee had with pride and love, man. Tip your cap to Detroit, man.
If I can find a way to stomach Valverde's bush league nonsense, I will be pulling for them.
Farewell to Gene Monahan too ....
[1222] He was never even close to my favorite, but man, did he go out like a champ. Jorge was something else this series. Really impressive.
[1227] Other than Valverde, I have no problem with the Tigers on the field.
Gritner, Cano, Posada and Grandy hit.
Jeter was decent.
But four guys weren't even replacement level.
ARod with what... 1 hit all series? Teix with 2?
The season is a total fucking failure. Just a disaster. But I'll have my Yankee hat on tomorrow when I go see Moneyball.
I'm not going to watch the rest of this shit. I hate all the teams that are left.
1225) No, you don't. It's okay. They just didn't get it done. Short series. Shit happens. At least they put themselves in a position to win it. They gave us something to cheer for. Sure, and yell at. Sweet agony. That's LIVING, folks. We're alive! It's all good.
A-Rod was a fraud, Shisher was a whiffer, and there was a better chance of getting a hit from Billy Martin than Russell.
Crapahoola
Thanks, though - having like minded posters to type to was more fun than not.
Next on Cinemax, Fister beats Chokers.
Holy disappointment. 2 fucker homers. 2 out rbi off CC. And a clusterfuck of failures with men in scoring position. The hitters failed plain and simple. They could have had a batting machine throwing and they still only would have scored 2 runs. Pathetic. Props to pitchers holding the tigers down. Some years are better than others.
[1228] I was really hoping they could send him out with a win.
On the other hand, he's got A LOT OF HARDWARE...
I hear ya' [1227], although Tigers fans can kind of be douches. But as one of the world's biggest Wolverine fans and knowing what that city's been through, if Valverde wasn't there...
Honestly, though, who isn't a Brewers fan right now?
Damn, this end is bitter. Tell me the future looks bright. Somehow, I think we've just seen a lot of good signs.
Swisher has to go. I like the guy, but he's a liability in the big spots. I don't really think most MLB-level hitters "choke," but Swisher is the exception.
[1234] But I miss Big-Ears Jorgie already..
The headline for the recap should be "DIE"
[1231] A-Rod had 3 hits and 3 RBI and 4 or 5 walks, I believe. He got 2 hits in one inning in the last game. Not a total disaster.
[1234] I *don't* feel like that? I'm pretty sure I do.
Detroit, as a city, needed this much more than just one individual did. But I sure coulda used a good run.
Numb.
Arod relishes these chances. Bet on me he says. Sleep well tonight Alex.
Good bye Jorge. We do love you.
To everyone here, thanks for a great season.
They aren't chokers. They got beat. They didn't have great at bats. But the pitchers kept them in there. And the Tigers are good. Stop bitching. The Tigers won it. It's not just the Yankees' failures. It's the Tigers success.
[1244] They're not chokers. They weren't good enough.
[1244] I entirely agree. The Yanks stayed in it. Tiger pitching was good. So was ours.
The Tigers won it. It's not just the Yankees' failures. It's the Tigers success.
I disagree. We missed many meatballs. The Tigers didn't beat us, we beat ourselves. This was a choke. We simply can't score a man from 3rd with less then 2 out.
Choke.
[1241] Sorry. 2 hits, 3 BB and 3 RBI. Pretty close to a disaster, actually.
1242) Maybe you do. I don't mean to be presumptuous. But it's okay even though it sucks right now. Only somber part for me is that this is Jorge and Gene-o's finale.
Missed many meatballs, yeah? Happens. Even to the best of them. Baseball is fucking hard, bro.
Exhausting game. But the Yanks didn't lose for a lack of effort. And I, for one, don't count the season as a failure. I think it was a success. They did better than I expected. Some people didn't think they'd make the playoffs. But they did. Best record in the league. They didn't give up any of their young players. Cano emerged as the leader of the team. Jeter rebounded and had a good year. Mariano, well, what can you say? It's amazing. Posada went out on a high note. Granderson was terrific. David Robertson was wonderful.
And next year we get The Jesus. Maybe some young pitchers.
It ended on a tough, tough note. But even though they didn't get that hit tonight, I'm proud of them for hanging in there. Just didn't go their way. They gave us plenty to cheer this year. And for that I'm grateful.
It just always ends so suddenly, doesn't it?
What can ya say, this was LITERALLY a case of the ball not falling in when they needed it to. It stings, but it isn't anyone's "fault."
Ever since the Yanks lost in the ALCS last year I had some pretty crazy ups and downs in my personal and professional life, things have basically worked out in the end but it wasn't always a smooth ride. From Opening Day on I had this team to entertain me and distract me when I needed it. No matter what happened tonight I'll never be able to look back on them with anything but fondness.
So thanks 2011 Yankees, you weren't the best team I ever saw but you were a damn good one and a whole lot of fun while you lasted.
Hey, it's the way the goddamn cookie crumbles, right? I hope Detroit wins it all, I really do.
[1249] I'm so not in the mood right now to even think about how the Yankees are going to ruin young pitchers next year.
WHO WILL BE THE NEXT PHIL HUGHES?
[1250] That's part of it. Really fun watching them race past a Red Sox team standing still and then going in reverse.
Would have been nice to see a little more oomph in the ending. But there were certainly things to enjoy.
Tonight just felt - so close. And that hurts.
At least we got to see Mo be Mo.
[1249] They absolutely exceeded expectations - especially with all the DL time for Jeter and A-Rod and the lack of a rotation! It was a really fun season. We Yankee fans are really a disgustingly spoiled, childish lot. We've seen this team win 5 World Series and 7 Pennants in 15 years, and we bitch and moan. Get some perspective.
...and just wait til next year.
I don't even remember anything from this year. I've already forgotten 2011
Oh, and btw, I still stand by this: FUCK GERRY DAVIS. YOU ARE STILL A WORTHLESS PIECE OF SHIT HACK. RETIRE OR KILL YOURSELF.
Thanks.
[1247] I think it was a choke by certain players (bases loaded with 1 out twice and only 1 run off of a walk?). Just my opinion. Ultimately, it doesn't really matter.
I am happy Posada went out on fire. I'm going to miss that redass. Part of me wants him to retire, but if he really does want to still play, I won't begrudge him.
1257) There you go. At least you've still got your sense of humor. LOL
1255) Here Here!
[1255] I will co-sign this. This was a fun season with a shitty ending.
[1255] We're also not really allowed to celebrate things like Division Championships. Certainly, the organization invites that, by making clear what their goal is, and the payroll is what it is, but the rest of the country doesn't let us have much joy over doing what they see as the expected.
I guess it's up to us to remember that they can't change that we had fun along the way, and wow, can you imagine rooting for the Mariners.
I take it back. I remember those FUCKING RUSSELL MARTIN AT BATS
[1259] Who's joking!
Just kidding.
Although I did write an email to his web address/site that I'll never send. I really do consider his "performance" in Game 3 to have been a deeply shameful thing.
Detroit's a good team and all, and congrats to them, but our hitters were pathetic in this game.
I'm so mad.
[1262] Exactly! Think of all the fans who love a team that can't win 82 games. We start every season on the shortlist of potential WS Champs. Obviously, we can't win every year, that just doesn't happen, and if you're not winning it all, the end is going to be tough to take.
But I love the Yankees and I'm proud to be a fan and I cannot wait to watch this team next year...look out for Jesus, American League.
[1263] The last few will definitely be appearing in screwball nightmares for the next few months.
I never thought this team was going anywhere in the postseason, but I really thought it was because of the pitching.
I wonder how much losing Cervelli actually hurt? Sounds laughable, but I dare say you might have been able to avoid some Martin at bats with that replacement available. And what dick smashed Romine on the back of the head?
If Detroit and Milwaukee go to the WS, who will watch the games (besides die-hards like us)?
I do dig Jim Leyland, a gruff 50+ year baseball man with a catch in his voice describing Jim Kelly's HR moment.
Good for Detroit, they deserve something awesome.
Go kick the SHIT out of Texas, they deserve something awful.
But, I'm not going to sit here and pretend what just happened wasn't a loss, because it was.
Offense went what, 4 for 40 with RiSP in the series?
2! bases loaded situations with 1 out in tonight's game and NOBODY managed to get the ball out of the fucking infield even though they got PLENTY of fat fucking pitches to hit.
Yeah, the offense spit the bit AGAIN tonight and it wasn't about the quality of the opposing pitching ...
[1267] Man, I hadn't even considered that. Losing Cervelli was huge in hindsight.
1266) Everyone rock your Yankee caps to work tomorrow. REPRESENT!
The Yankees should be ashamed about one thing, though - if you get to a Game 5, can you please give Mr. Rivera a damn lead to work with in the 9th?
[1270] I felt it every time I found myself thinking "you gotta pull Russell."
I'm sorry, but here's a bitter thought: lost it on a Don Fucking Kelly Home Run.
ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
Show of hands, who thought Jeter's long fly was gone before they cut to Kelly looking like he thought he had room?
I'm in for one.
Why must Valverde - who I still think SUCKS - exist? I'd be rooting so hard for Detroit over the Nolan's, otherwise.
[1271] Man, I always do that after elimination games. Gotta show the haters you're not some fair-weather, johnny-come-lately pseudo-fan.
The worst part of this is every time they lose, the window closes just a little bit more. Jeter and A-Rod will be a combined 745 (estimated) next year. CC might not be back. Phil Hughes is ruined. Hell only knows how terrible Burnett will be next year, with even less of a chance of actually being removed. Presumably at some point Mariano Rivera is going to slow down. We have no other starting pitchers.
This team might be in a lot of trouble next year
[1271] Oh God, of course. I have four or five nice Yankee hats, and I'm deciding between them. I might wear my pinsriped one
[1276] And be proud none of us own pink hats!
I'm out. Go Go Brewers!
Anyhow, it was cool experiencing it with you guys. Thanks for coming, and returning to the Banter. End of season 9 for the Banter. Yanks have made the playoffs every year but one. It's always fun following the team with you fucking nut jobs!
Here's raising a glass to you guys.
[1277] Indeed.
Go Tigers!
Go Cardinals!
Go Brewers!
[1275] I'm not at all convinced Hughes is ruined. We will see. You're right about some of those players, but the Yankees have this absurd pile of money, so as long as they don't completely lose their minds, they will be in the mix. They don't have to "rebuild" - they can afford to mix in veteran stars with the kids. Cashman will have an interesting winter, to say the least.
[1275] Call me tooptimistic, but I don't see it that way.
I think Jeter has at least another year in the tank. I saw things out of him this year I'd given up hope on.
A Rod was busted up all year. I know it's because he's old, but I actually see him having a bounceback season next year. If he's at least healthier than *that* - I still think he's a great player.
Hughes showed some signs at the end of *not* being ruined. One hopes this is the start of a lot of good pitching by Nova. Do we really have to not find ANYTHING redemptive in AJ finally nutting up and doing something no one thought he would do? Maybe this was the one he needed.
Rivera is not ready to slow down. That last half inning may have been the most dominant half inning I saw pitched ALL YEAR.
go brewers!
[1278] Big thanks to you Alex. The banter is a place for relatively sane, interesting fans with an appreciation of the finer things in life. 180 degrees apart from shit radio and homer blogs.
I'll be back if you'll let me.
[1284] Seconded. Just the right mix of allowing some of our foul mouthed tirades (a few of us ringing up jussssssst a few more than other folks), some good baseball talk, lots of other stuff, and a feeling that the asshole quotient is almost nonexistent around here.
I really do feel like a balled up piece of news print, and I try to share some sincere reflections like that to balance out my more direct statements on my mood swings which are so often summarized as FUCK.
[1278] Yeah, BIG thanks Alex, the Banter is where I come to chat about all things Yankees, thanks for keeping it going day-to-day.
And I just referenced my own post within that post. Accidentally.
That was for you [1283], King of the Double Post.
Thanks for everything, Alex. Fire up that stove, it's gonna be a long winter, buddy.
(Lots of time for movies, huh?)
[1281] If Phil Hughes winds up a reliever, I consider that ruined.
[1280] Thanks again for the Banter, Al. I hate getting knocked out of the playoffs again, but it's good to have a place to commisserate.
Fuck Rangers.
[1281] And I really can't imagine a scenario where 35 year old AJ Burnett is anything but lousy
[1288] Seems to me our rotation will have room for him! Given the emergence of DRob, I would think Phil is given every chance to be in the rotation next year. It's not like its going to look overcrowded in March.
Well, good night and good luck, sweet Banterers ... I imagine I'll check in with you sometime between now and say ... March, depending on the news, of course.
via con dios ...
Cervelli's loss may have been huge, but the Yankees had the option to carry Romine as well as Montero. With a full bench, no reason they couldn't use Montero or Posada behind the plate.
As for pitching, there's CC (provided he doesn't opt out and signs elsewhere), Burnett, Hughes & Nova. I'm sure a FA will be signed. Maybe someone'll be traded for. Garcia & Colon may have earned another go-round. Betances and Banuelos among others await on the farm. Mitre will always be around.
Joba'll be back next year, adding to Robertson, Soriano & Mo.
The Yanks'll be fine.
[1293] You sure Romine wasn't dinged by getting slammed in the head with a bat?
