baseball!

I am watching at work. For some reason it is going to take me at least 4 hours to put together 4 binders in the conference room, where there just happens to be a tv. Since they are playing the Los Angeles Orange County California North American United States Angels of the Milky Way Galaxy, I can actually catch it on Fox Sports West.

Hey, how many homers with Albert hit this weekend.

Put me down for zero in the pool.

(Knock on wood.)

4 rbj   ~  Apr 13, 2012 12:21 pm

Put me down for an even 3 Pujolsers.

5 Dimelo   ~  Apr 13, 2012 12:33 pm

Teixera's our automatic out. Prove me wrong mofo!

6 Dimelo   ~  Apr 13, 2012 12:38 pm

YAY!!!!

7 Dimelo   ~  Apr 13, 2012 12:41 pm

Good inning, did Grandy even bat that inning? His at-bat was over in a blink.

8 OmarSaleh   ~  Apr 13, 2012 12:45 pm

Following on mlb.com...the pitchFX makes it seem like the strike zone is absurdly small for both pitchers; does it look that way on the broadcast?

9 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 13, 2012 12:45 pm

SWISH!

10 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 13, 2012 12:48 pm

Hiroki!!!!!!!!!!

11 rbj   ~  Apr 13, 2012 12:48 pm

Dang, stupid work, missed the fireworks.

12 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 13, 2012 12:55 pm

Gritner you mo mo.

13 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 13, 2012 1:00 pm

Dag.

14 rbj   ~  Apr 13, 2012 1:13 pm

Gee, I guess I better hope for a busy rest of the afternoon. Missed A-Rod's A-bomb too.

Students these days have trouble with print resources.

15 RIYank   ~  Apr 13, 2012 1:15 pm

Damn.
I have an intermittent (and crappy) internet connection. A-Rod just homered, right?

16 Dimelo   ~  Apr 13, 2012 1:17 pm

[15] Yeah. It was an A-BOMB!!!

17 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 13, 2012 1:32 pm

Got to love those double plays.

18 joejoejoe   ~  Apr 13, 2012 1:36 pm

Does A-Rod look good stealing a base? Since he bulked up and had knee issues he's lost some of his grace but he looks like Fred Astaire in the box score right now.

19 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 13, 2012 1:40 pm

Way to go Hiroki. 6th inning is a tough one, with Albert due up. If he can get three more outs maybe 6 that'd be great.

20 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 13, 2012 1:40 pm

18) He looked good because he's smart about it now. Not graceful but not clunky either.

21 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 13, 2012 1:45 pm

Alex just tagged that one back through the middle.

22 RIYank   ~  Apr 13, 2012 1:48 pm

Is Hiroki pitching really well, or just a little lucky, or what?

23 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 13, 2012 1:50 pm

I heart Cano!

24 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 13, 2012 1:52 pm

Sit down, Pujols!

25 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 13, 2012 1:53 pm

Albert caught looking. YES!

26 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 13, 2012 1:53 pm

22) Yes.

27 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 13, 2012 2:21 pm

Keep it going, Hiroki!

28 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 13, 2012 2:22 pm

One pitch, one out to start the 8th.

29 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 13, 2012 2:25 pm

Man, what a job by Hiroki. 8 innings, 0 runs.

30 rbj   ~  Apr 13, 2012 2:27 pm

So who pitches the 9th?

31 Shaun P.   ~  Apr 13, 2012 2:32 pm

[29] THIS is the Kuroda I expected to see! I wish I wasn't stuck following the game online. I bet he did a great job.

[30] No idea. Wade, maybe?

32 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 13, 2012 2:35 pm

Looks like Hiroki will start the 9th.

33 rbj   ~  Apr 13, 2012 2:39 pm

[32] Girardi is letting a starter, who has been dominant all game, start the 9th? I hope it's only to give up an IBB or two.

34 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 13, 2012 2:40 pm

Tough play for Jetes. There will be no complete game today. But Robertson vs. Albert should be interesting.

35 rbj   ~  Apr 13, 2012 2:44 pm

Thanks for playing Albert.

36 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 13, 2012 2:45 pm

ThhhhhYankees win!

37 rbj   ~  Apr 13, 2012 2:45 pm

Woo hoo!

38 RIYank   ~  Apr 13, 2012 2:47 pm

Hammered!

I plan to watch a bunch of this game tonight off mlb.tv. Psyched about Hiroki-san, and looking forward to some cheering from our Far East contingent when they wake up.

39 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 13, 2012 2:49 pm

They sure will be happy. A sweet Opening Day from soup to nuts.

40 Jon Weisman   ~  Apr 13, 2012 2:51 pm

I've probably never been happier about a Yankee win.

41 Shaun P.   ~  Apr 13, 2012 2:55 pm

[39] Amen to that!

I'm looking forward to a nice, relaxing weekend of watching baseball. See you all tomorrow!

42 Hank Waddles   ~  Apr 13, 2012 3:08 pm

[40] Stick around, Jon. I think you'll find that Yankee wins ALWAYS make people happy!

43 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 13, 2012 5:48 pm

Nice to wake up and see this result!

44 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 13, 2012 7:04 pm

Delayed running game thread! Anyone mind if I ramble on incoherently?
Cued up mlbTV..Michael Kay's voice "It's the Yankees home opener! Brought to you by The Three Stooges, the movie!"

Umm..what?

Posada first pitch coming up! Sniffle..涙..

45 RIYank   ~  Apr 13, 2012 7:05 pm

Hi Mr OK -- see [38]!

46 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 13, 2012 7:09 pm

Wow, Jorge looks just like Jorge Sr.! Mr. Softee tears for me. Can't imagine how much will bawl when it's Jeter and Mo throwing out the first pitch.

Wonder if A-Rod will get to do it one day? He'll probably put it in the dirt.

47 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 13, 2012 7:10 pm

[45] Nice, I missed [38]! Game on as I do boring laundry here, stick around for the witty "Banter"? See that, "Banter" has two meanings? I crack myself up sometimes :)

48 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 13, 2012 7:15 pm

King Albert batting. Interesting stat earlier about his and A-Rod's first 11 seasons. I guess Alex gets extra points for playing SS and in the AL? Though Albert's overall stats are just unreal..

49 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 13, 2012 7:32 pm

Wow, A-rod with the SB! Nice to see him moving well.
Here comes the inevitable Teix pop-up now. Sigh..

50 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 13, 2012 7:39 pm

Swisherooo! Once the 3-4-5 guys start hitting this team will mash, of course.

51 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 13, 2012 8:05 pm

Wow, never seen someone actually out of the batters box like that when getting a hit. Martin missed that, he should have been called out. I imagine Ichiro comes close to that at times with the way he swings.

52 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 13, 2012 8:09 pm

A-Rod with the loooooong home run to center!
630..can catch the Say Hey Kid this season?

53 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 13, 2012 8:10 pm

Btw, the monuments under that net in CF just look so silly and hidden. They spent 1.5billion on the park and couldn't do better than that?

54 RIYank   ~  Apr 13, 2012 8:19 pm

The Knicks look good.
I guess everyone looks good against the Wizards.

55 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 13, 2012 8:21 pm

Mays, Ruth, Aaron, Bonds the only guys ahead of A-Rod now on the homer list. Wow.

56 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 13, 2012 8:31 pm

[54] Wizards..bleccch.
Kuroda looking great. Worthy #18.

57 Chyll Will   ~  Apr 13, 2012 8:36 pm

Sooooo tired of missing out... But I have no right to complain about working. >:'

58 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 13, 2012 8:57 pm

[57] Advantage of morning baseball here :)
Time to head out now though, got to catch last few innings later!

59 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 13, 2012 9:00 pm

The big Knicks game comes Sunday vs. the Heat, who have been struggling big time.

60 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 13, 2012 10:50 pm

Been away, away from the computer, away from the tv, hearing some games on the radio (but not todays). Watching the Yes replay now. This has been a beautiful spring home opener day. Kuroda! Swisher! Arod! Baseball! The season is on.

[53] Couldn't agree more. The monuments, and the rest of monument park feels like the moldy playroom of the 50's split level, in the NYS. I thought it would be re-thought and redone for this year. But...the boss's monument still looks like an eyesore.

61 Chyll Will   ~  Apr 14, 2012 12:47 am

[60] A perfect likeness, you say?
