Via LoHud, Teix is out with flu like symptoms, Jeter to DH, Swisher to 1B, Nunez at SS.
Johnny Damon has signed a minor league contract on Tuesday, the next step before he joins the (Indians) major league club and possibly moves into a permanent spot in left field. The sides agreed on a $1.25 million deal last week.
Poor JD. This is the 2nd time he blew the Yankees off, and ended up no better.
Hmm...CC still "dealing" a 90 mph fastball. That doesn't seem right.
Nice 1, 2, 3, inning for CC.
Alright, Nick.
Attaboy, Swish.
Patience please, Rob. Liriano is not a big friend of the strike zone tonight.
Oh you gotta be kidding me.
Sigh.
Peeeeeeew. What a stinker that was.
Also that.
Ryan Doumit has scary black-eyed kid eyes.
CC's "stuff" is not sooo overwhelming tonight.
[13] He's just getting warmed up.
[14] For June?
Scary fly ball.
That could have been ugly. I was expecting the ball to drop.
[13] This always happens in April. Remember?
Communication, boys.
[18] I don't remember his velocity being so consistently low, but maybe I'm mistaken.
Not the velocity in particular. I don't remember that either. But he's generally a mediocre pitcher in April.
Hey, cool! Free base!
Oh, that's what he does well!
Oh good, a man on second, but will we get him in?
Nunez!
Please, Brett, do not strike out looking. Or at all.
Ok. Squeeze. Sac bunt. Squeeze again. 2-1 good guys.
Or that! ; )
Oh, that is just fucking awesome.
Except that isn't, stupid ass fan.
Let's go, Yankees!
Gritner!
Missed it, had to release the hounds.
Oh, never mind, not the fan's fault at all.
Hm. Can Stewart bunt? I do not like the squeeze, but I do like the idea of Gardenhire pulling in his infield...
So where are they? Not way in.
Just bunt.
Don't K or pop out.
Hideous.
Got lucky there, Brett.
I don't have the energy to load the link for the Circus Music, but please feel free to imagine it.
I didn't realize Chris Stewart was a Yankee again. He keeps trying to escape, and they keep getting him back. :-)
He hasn't put a single pitch in the zone to Jetes.
The strike out pitch might have just scratched the zone.
Yeah, he doesn't want to walk Swish and face Rob with the bases juiced. Good count, Nick...
Better count now. Come on, Nick! Green light him, right?
Whoa.
Okay, Rob, be patient. Be patient.
Find a gap, Robbie. Pretty please.
Crap. CRAP!
That fucking inning is gonna bite them in the ass. Dammit!
Sub-optimal.
No one's there to see you, blue. Douche.
Adios!
Gardy was trying for that.
But WTF were they on about?
Span was fussing about the strike call?
Wtf kind of game is this?
That figures.
Jesus Christ.
Clete Thomas?
Yep, just warming up.
Ugh.
We got a lot of $20m+ league average players this year...
Maybe it's glitter. Crap.
Warming. Up.
[54] [56] CC. April. Remember?
God, that's only the second out?
Whew.
[59] And Rob doesn't hit in April and Teix doesn't hit in April.
Wow, that looked trapped!
Nice, Brett!
Nope, clean catch!
Brett saves the day.
Gardner saves a whole shitload of runs.
[56] The year is young, but we're not used to this throttling by the Twins. The biggest concern is watching Cano at bat.
Gardner mows the lawn and stops the damage
Brett looked none too comfortable after that catch.. Please let the wrist be ok.
Losing to a team with Jamie Carrol and Trevor Plouffe mashing the ball..what's going on??
[67] And Clete Thomas.
What's going on is that CC isn't pitching very well, and we stranded a load of runners.
[68] Trevor Plouffe..really, it matches my real name in the "least inspiring baseball names ever" contest..
Anyone missing Tex? He's out with "flu like symptoms".
[70] He caught it from his bats.
[69] JJ Putz wins that contest.
Not my favorite part of the line-up here.
[70] Hangover? Domestic trouble? Missing goggles? Heroin setback? (sorry, that H joke refers to old jazz men from the 50s who sometimes missed gigs due to `stomach upset`..likely form withdrawl).
Green light Nuney. Holy Smokes!
Nice job, Eddie boy.
Hey, cool! Probably not what Joe was thinking when he gave Ed the green light, but good enough!
[74] Allergy to Liriano...check out his career numbers against.
A hit with RISP?!
Meanwhile (as I listen to the Twins feed), the announcers are talking with Carl Pavano, basically yucking it up over last night's game. Infuriating.
[78] Ah right, Francisco Randy Johnson Liriano..prettayyyy weak, Teix.
I'd almost want to PH for Stewart. Yeah, might do it, with Russell. But I guess the whole point of playing Stewart is then defeated.
I smell a double play.
Lester out after 2+ at Fenway. Gives up 4 runs and leaves the based loaded.
YAYAYAYAYA
True Yankee!
Damn, look at this new (perhaps not so) feckless catcher!
Yes. The Reverse Jinx Rides Again! ; )
[84] Holy shit, I wasn't watching -- what happened? Is he injured? (He's the only Red Sox I would really hate to see injured.)
Chris Stewart! Frankie who?
Yes, good job, Just Fair. Excellent work.
[86] I was always 100% gung-ho for the Chris Stewart signing!
[84] That's so sad..someone call PopEye's! (is that joke already stale?)
5-2 in Fenway. Sacs loaded, 1 out.
Now we know that Stewart will not bat zero this year. He has more RBI's than Arod.
[89] Getting old???
Derek is pounding that right field corner, huh?
[95] He's 28. Pitcher prime.
Good rap, Jetes.
Jesus, we're only in the third and it's only 5-3?
[96] He's pounding everything, but particularly right field.
Damn, nice play.
[98] second "only" = "already"?
hahahahahaha
Thanks. I try to do my part.
[97] He got a bad case of the Texas Flu.
[94] Was it Nieves the backup C a few years back who was 0 for 40 or something like that? Then got thrown out at 2B trying to stretch his first hit in years?
[101] Yeah, I don't know what I meant, frankly...
Julian Benbow at Extra Bases has no particular remarks about Lester being injured. Maybe he just sucked.
[104] Hahahahahahah! I do have a vague recollection of that! Hahahahahahahahah!!!
Whoops [103] was for RIYank [91]. Now's time for the BIg Fella to shut down the mighty bats of the Twinkies.
Kay's aged.
Retro uniforms?
[109] I mean, I know, haven't we all?
I hate to say it, but when Flash is in the booth it's kind of a moronic group. Something about the interaction between him and Kay.
[112] That Highlander uniform was kind of cool though.
Rob's just not on.
[113] Totally. But it would have been cooler with the sound off, is all I'm saying.
[112] If IQ was feet, the group combined couldn't hit the ball over the NYS right field wall.
Save the bones for Andruw Jones!
Mr. Jones!
[117] hahahah! I love that.
I have *no* idea what it means.
But I love it.
(Or perhaps that's why I love it.)
This is the wackiest game!
Jeez, what's next
Get back to your point about Bobby V, Al...
[115] Hey, as I was walking to work I had the radio feed on through the phone. Ma & Pa..incredible how little they actually describe of what's going on! Lots of silences and then odd non-sequitirs..Suzyn on my main man Plouffe: "We saw him in Minnesota"..long pause..."He may have some power..."..pause..."So here comes Swisher...he's always so animated..."
CC's nearing warmness.
[119] Johnny Mercer and Nat King Cole, baby! (And covered by other kool kats.)
[125] Bones is jazz slang for "joint" in that song.
[126] I never knew that. Makes sense.
[125][126] That's hip!
The Captain with the 2 out rbi.
Another hit with RISP! And with two outs.
Yay Jetes!
[128] It might be hep, even.
I feel like I'm missing out. Bones was also the drummer who played at The Cunningham's house on an early Happy Days episode. It caused a big stir because he was a young black kid.
[123] No idea what's going on on the field at the moment, or even what the larger facts about the game such as the score or the inning.
[125] Oh, fucking awesome, cheers for that!
[132] I don't remember that one.
Swell job by CC after a rough start.
Man did Robbie smash that one.
Yes he did.
[132] Happy Days..I don't remember that episode either. That show REALLY did not age well..how did anyone think the Fonz was "cool"?
[125] (Still singing that song, can't get it out of my head. Good fucking stuff.)
FauxJohnSterling on twitter just said this: "Suzyn, CC is "rollin' with his homies!" I just learned that from the movie "Clueless," which I watched on my Betamax!"
Really love following him!
Work calling, Go Go Team!! Bring home the W!
[139] Um, well, compared to the company he kept?
[140] Johnny Mercer could string a few notes together, huh?
Praise be to Youtube. I stand corrected. The kid's name was Sticks, not Bones.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwPNLau1i80
One more out, big guy. Go get 'im.
[143] I think there is a Ray Charles version too.
[143] Indeed.
[125] I finally had a listen. That's good stuff. Someone needs to tell John Sterling about that one. Andrew don't need no meat.
Good comeback, big guy.
[148] I bet he knows it. I bet Suzyn could sing it, too.
I would love to know more about Flash's fridge.
Good night for Brett.
I'll be damned.
Chris Stewart!
Look at him go!
Tell John Sterling I predicted 3 RBI for Chris Stewart tonight.
Chris "Thurman" Stewart, ladies and gentlemen.
With the today's technology I would be surprised if teams weren't stealing signs.
Ok, last two ab's have looked good for Rob.
Why is CC still in the game?
[157] And his first one -- ripped it but right into the glove.
[159] Yes, true.
[157] [159} Ya mean I can stop worrying about Cano?
Holy Feck..anyone see what's happening in Fenway? Sheesh!
[162] That Bobby Valentine style of motivation must be taking effect.
[162] Wow. Still only one out!
Hey, look who's batting in Fenway!
hahahahahah!
Three homers in this inning!
Hahahahha!
Oh, man, I'm SO happy it's Bobby V over there!
This is going to be a FUN season with his antics.
When did Cory Wade become Scott Procter?
Valentine can go piss up a pole and I hate the red sox. Hmmmmmmm......schadenfreude.
Rangers finally make the third out.
Melancon again. I feel sorry for him.
[170] Yeah. His ERA is now 49 1/2.
(I know it's more traditional to write 49.5, but my way looks better.)
