I don't see both of these guys shutting down any of these lineups. And if I'm wrong, I hope I'm wrong with Kuroda and he does shut them down.

Off topic: has anyone here been having problems with MLB.tv or At Bat 12 ? I have been using At Bat 12 on my iPad, and lately when I try to watch a game, every time an inning ends and the "commercial break in progress" screen comes up, the app resets to the "game day" screen. Then I need to re-select the video feed, wait for it to check for blackout restrictions, etc....every half inning.

I wrote MLB.tv customer service, and received only their useless pre-fab list of tricks (e.g. "try restarting the device"). Thanks.

Go Yanks.

[2] I haven't had any trouble with mlb.tv. But I haven't tried it on an iPad -- just on my MacBook and my Roku box.

[3] Well, I'm testing it right now, using the Seattle-Detroit game. h look, Montero just whacked an RBI single.

5 monkeypants   ~  Apr 24, 2012 6:33 pm

Hm. Seems to be working ok so far. We'll see what happens when the Yanks-Rangers start, though I'll probably be a sleep by then.

Only Yankee with 30 hits in the first 16 games? Dang, Derek's piling some firsts. Which isn't easy to do on the Yankees anymore.

7 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:07 pm

Man, after all these years hearing about the Whirling Darvish, here he is.
Light 'em up, O!

8 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:07 pm

okay, I might have taken a pitch

9 RIYank   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:08 pm

I just heard on the radio that Jamie Moyer has pitched to 8% of the players in MLB history.

Could that be right? Did I mishear??

10 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:10 pm

[9] They've been talking about that fact throughout this week. Crazy, right?

11 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:11 pm

This strikezone is gonna be a bitch

12 rbj   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:12 pm

[9] Six degrees of Jamie Moyer?

13 RIYank   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:14 pm

Wow, so that fact is going around. Amazing. [12] I guess an awful lot of baseball players have one degree of separation from Jamie Moyer. (Or is that zero? I can't remember how it works.)

14 RIYank   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:16 pm

Sox on the board and still batting in the top of the first.

15 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:17 pm

Oh Christ

16 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:17 pm

Oi!

17 RIYank   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:18 pm

Sayonara.

18 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:18 pm

ugly already

19 RIYank   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:21 pm

Nick Blackburn is... struggling.

20 rbj   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:26 pm

[13] I think Jamie would be the zero. Every batter he's pitched to is 1 degree.
Meh, Josh will do that. Just make sure the bases are empty when he's at bat.

21 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:30 pm

Well, sooner or later we should make solid contact, right?

22 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:30 pm

Someone who throws strikes and keeps hitters off balance. Oh, boy.

23 RIYank   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:30 pm

[20] Oh, right, Jamie is the zero. That's right. Like only Paul Erdős has an Erdős number of zero.

24 RIYank   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:32 pm

[21] Teix did -- line drive but at Hamilton.

25 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:32 pm

Just in, was Singleton talking about Sumo wrestling?? Caught the end of him saying something like "..and we met the Hawaiian champion Konishiki.." HUGE 450+lb ex-champion. Popular TV "talent" now in Japan..

Oh, Yu Darvish is good. They won't get much off him tonight looks like.

26 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:35 pm

Ahh..even Michael Kay is on the "Michael Young, what a leader!" nonsense..ain't it great how certain guys get a pass?

Go Go Kuroda!

27 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:38 pm

I need to get David "Ball Four" Murphy popular.

28 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:40 pm

Ump has a real slow call.

29 RIYank   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:42 pm

Twins and Sox started at the same time as us. Still in the first inning! Morneau with the bases loaded and one out, torturing Beckett with a long at-bat...

30 RIYank   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:43 pm

Josh has thrown 28 pitches. Only one out. Full count...
And he walks Morneau, driving in the Twins' first run.

31 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:44 pm

Phew.

32 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:45 pm

Okay, at least we have a hit

33 RIYank   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:45 pm

Beckett comes back, striking out Ryan Doumit on three pitches. Two away, bases loaded.

34 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:46 pm

Settle down 'ya Prima Donna!

35 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:47 pm

The Captain can do no wrong.

36 rbj   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:47 pm

Derek!

37 RIYank   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:47 pm

I'll be damned.

38 RIYank   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:49 pm

Danny Valencia. God, the Twins are anemic. Beckett doesn't have control, he goes to 3-0. But then a strike, and Valencia grounds out on the sixth. Only one run, but Beckett threw 35 pitches in the first inning.

39 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:49 pm

The scouts are right. Jeter does seem faster

40 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:51 pm

Outside Blue! Fuck that shit!

41 RIYank   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:52 pm

Great pitch. Damn.

42 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:52 pm

He might have gotten a call, but that's the first one he got

43 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:52 pm

IN THE AIR

44 RIYank   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:52 pm

[39] Legs, or bat?

45 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:52 pm

This could very well be the inning that ruins this game.

46 RIYank   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:53 pm

Holy shit.
Man, that was brutal.

47 rbj   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:53 pm

Dammit!

48 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:53 pm

Oh well.

At least we have a hit.

49 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:53 pm

[44] Legs

50 RIYank   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:54 pm

Kelly Shoppach leads off with a double, and Aviles sacrifices him to third! Bizarre. Aviles is not good at hitting, but that is just a terrible tactic.

51 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:56 pm

[50] Twinkie Baseball. Catch it!

52 Boatzilla   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:56 pm

This is a duel, no doubt.

I wish I could take the whole morning off, but gotta head out for a lunch in 30 minutes. Darn!

53 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:57 pm

[51] Soft-tossin, fundamentalin', baseball the way it's meant to be played!

54 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:58 pm

[50] He's not an *awful* hitter either.

55 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:59 pm

Is there an older 3rd baseman-Shortstop combo than Jeter-Chavez tonight I wonder. : /

56 RIYank   ~  Apr 24, 2012 7:59 pm

Mr. OK and Just Fair, you know Shoppach and Aviles are on the Red Sox, right? It was Bobby V's tactic.

Failed, too -- they didn't get him in!

57 Boatzilla   ~  Apr 24, 2012 8:00 pm

Rip off!

58 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 24, 2012 8:00 pm

A walk in front of Hamilton. boooooooooooooooo!

59 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 24, 2012 8:01 pm

Kuroda has thrown that way high rolling thingamajig a couple times tonight

60 Boatzilla   ~  Apr 24, 2012 8:02 pm

I wish the announcers would learn how to say his name. He's only been in the majors for what, 5 years.

It's Koo-roh-dah, damnit!

61 rbj   ~  Apr 24, 2012 8:03 pm

Nice toss, Josh.

62 RIYank   ~  Apr 24, 2012 8:03 pm

Irritating. Almost had him on the steal, too.

63 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 24, 2012 8:04 pm

[56] Oh, crap. Whoops . I knew Minnesota playing Boston but just figured the the anemic Twins pulled that stunt. It is compforting to know Shoppach and Aviles are in the Boston line-up.
2 out walk in front of Hamilton and the Yankees can't fucking score with the fucking bases loaded and no outs. Fucking Bollocks!

64 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 24, 2012 8:05 pm

[55] Jeter /A-Rod

65 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 24, 2012 8:06 pm

Martin has reminded me of Cervelli defensively this year.

That's not a compliment.

66 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 24, 2012 8:09 pm

[64] With all of Chavez's time on the dl he seems older.

67 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 24, 2012 8:10 pm

A Robbie Rocket into the gap.

68 rbj   ~  Apr 24, 2012 8:10 pm

An extra base hit!

69 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 24, 2012 8:13 pm

Pathetic.

70 rbj   ~  Apr 24, 2012 8:14 pm

I predict 3 straight strikeouts. Determine.

71 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 24, 2012 8:15 pm

Hmm.

72 rbj   ~  Apr 24, 2012 8:28 pm

[70] Should read nevermind. Stupid Touchpad.

73 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 24, 2012 8:29 pm

I've swung like that before

74 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 24, 2012 8:30 pm

[72] I've been determining for like 20 minutes now

75 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 24, 2012 8:33 pm

I like 1998 Derek Jeter

76 rbj   ~  Apr 24, 2012 8:34 pm

Yay Derek.

77 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 24, 2012 8:34 pm

A few 95 mph fastballs in a row and then he RIPS a curveball down the line. Jete!

78 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 24, 2012 8:45 pm

Okay, this is boring

79 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 24, 2012 8:46 pm

Well that was good. Now. Score truck!

80 rbj   ~  Apr 24, 2012 8:46 pm

A most efficacious (spelling?) double play.

81 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 24, 2012 8:54 pm

This game has been very Matsuzakaish, in that I think the Yankees will score nine runs off him next time they see him

82 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 24, 2012 8:55 pm

Yu looks very good.

83 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 24, 2012 8:56 pm

Dice-K didn't throw strikes. Yu isn't afraid to hit the plate.

84 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 24, 2012 8:57 pm

Lead off homer. 2 out walk to Hamilton. Yanks shit the bed with the bases loaded. This should be an entirely different game. grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....

85 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 24, 2012 9:04 pm

Hello!
Kuroda proudly represents. 2 runs in six innings against the Rangers lineup is more than can be expected.

Yu Dar man is the real thing. The Yanks need to get to the bullpen.

86 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 24, 2012 9:06 pm

[85] I think he's going 9.

87 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 24, 2012 9:09 pm

[56] Ouch! I also assumed they were on the Twins..hard to believe a RSox team bunted there. Does Bobby V think he's still in Japan? No matter now as they're up 8-1.

[86] Havn't seen much since first inning. How were the Yanks' at bats against Darvish? Has he been dominant or just so-so?

88 rbj   ~  Apr 24, 2012 9:12 pm

Darvish is twirling tonight.

89 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 24, 2012 9:14 pm

[87] Jeter and Cano both ripped doubles along with singles. The rest of the lineup has been hopeless. He's looked like Pedro, sadly. Kuroda has been pretty damn good, too.

90 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 24, 2012 9:31 pm

This game should probably bother me more

91 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 24, 2012 9:32 pm

Robbie swing at and trying to pull a bad pitch

92 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 24, 2012 9:38 pm

MOVEZ

93 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 24, 2012 9:46 pm

If nothing else, Nolan's way is more fun to watch than the hysterical over reaction to Mark Prior that teams had adopted

94 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 24, 2012 9:46 pm

Joe Nathan is always up for a good implosion.
Damn, Yu. I don't think we'll see a much better shutdown of the Yanks than that.

95 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 24, 2012 9:49 pm

Oh well.

96 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 24, 2012 9:50 pm

Darvish was marvish. Many different pitches for strikes. You think Ibanez could have taken one pitch from Nathan?

97 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 24, 2012 9:52 pm

The Yanks will take the series tomorrow.

98 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 24, 2012 9:52 pm

The only thing that bothers me now is we need Phil Hughes to pitch well to avoid a losing streak.

99 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 24, 2012 9:56 pm

[98] D'oh!
[96] I'm still bitter Yanks did not really bid for him.

100 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 24, 2012 9:59 pm

Kuroda pitched a nice game. Yu was that much better. Not a bad loss. Happens.
