The Tigers are in town. Justin, Fielder and Miggy: Oh My.
Tonight gives Verlander. Ivan Nova counters for the Yanks.
I know it’s the MVP/Cy Young Award winner tonight, still how about a Score Truck sighting, boys?

Can we get a score truck picture, please?
Was Delmon bailed out in time to be available tonight?
Verlander vs. Nova...I'm kind of excited about this matchup.
1) See above. Just added Branco's latest shot.
Maybe instead of Lays potato chips, how about Kellogg's Frosted Flakes for the next few days please?
[3] Thanks man!
[4] Haha! Works for me.
Excellent story out of Red Sox Nation. A couple of days ago, Bobby Valentine changed his mind and submitted a new line-up a few hours after he had announce the Sox order against the Twins. The reason: he had thought Liam Hendricks was left-handed.
[6] I try to avoid Jim Rome's radio show like the plague but I heard about that story from him yesterday. He had me laughing out loud describing the potential reactions of Ugly and Pony. : ) Atta boy, Bobby V! Good times.
[7] It's confusing, because he's right-handed, but then again he's from Australia so maybe it's backwards? Like which side you drive on, or water swirling down the drain...
Win it for the Moose
The write up on that Delmon Young incident was really unclear..he harassed tourists from Chicago? Or the panhandler? (And the pan handler was wearing a yarmulke??)
Cold night and Verlander..yikes..
The ump misses the first pitch of the game. Oh, boy.
Nice curve, Nova.
Phew, got through that inning.
Didn't Prince Fielder used to have a neck?
I'm sorry to report this from a previoius thread, but I really need to get some feedback from yuz guys. Is my conclusion correct, or have a missed something? And if my conclusion is correct, is that $189 'cap' really that important to hit?
Hey guys.... I need some help here. I have reviewed the new CBA agreement, to see just how critical the 2014, #189m magic number is: Here is what I see.
1) The current agreement goes thru 2016, so there would be 3 years effected, 2014, 2015 and 2016.
2) If the Yankees meet the $189 threshhold, the 'Tax Clock' is reset. So in 2015, the 'new' Tax would be 17.5%, if over $189m and 30% in 2016, if over... instead of 50%.
3) So, using the following scenerio, where they meet the threshold in 2014 and then increase their payroll back up to $219 for the next 2 years, vs having a $219m payroll for all 3 years.
2014: $189m = $00m x 0.00% = $0000m tax vs
2014: $219m = $30m x 50.0% = $15.0m tax
Savings = $15.0m
2015: $219m = $30m x 17.5% = $5.25m tax vs
2015: $219m = $30m x 50.0% = $15.0m tax
Savings = $9.75m
2016: $219m = $30m x 30.0% = $9.00m tax vs
2016: $219m = $30m x 50.0% = $15.0m tax
Savings = $6m
So... over 3 years, the total savings is $30.75m
or about $10.25m/yr.
Is that it?
Are there any other implications to meeting the threshold?
I thought the savings was more.
Close to $31m might be made with one WS Win.
Am I missing something?????
$10m/yr doesn't seem that huge.
Verlander is frighteningly talented.. My school's baseball teams are going to see the "Empire State" Yanks on Tuesday. The hope is that Pettitte will be there to pitch.
[15] I dunno, I heard it could be about $40M.
Seems like a lot to me! I have no idea how much a WS win is to the Yankees.
[16] Eh, he sucks. Curtis can mash him.
When you're facing Verlander, its always nice to get that first hit.
[18] I stand corrected.
I mean, Verlander's ERA against us this year is now 27.00. How good could he be, really?
[15] I think the Yankees lost money some years. I doubt George cared as he probably figured he didn't have much time left. Hank & Hal probably care more -- without knowing what the books look like, I can't tell about $10 million.
Good job, Alex.
[22] I think this stuff is really complicated. Suppose George ran in the red for ten years. The capital appreciation of the team might swamp those deficits, and winning teams might be making the Yankees tons of money on the side, too.
But I do think we're seeing a different approach with Hank and Hal, anyway.
Another thing is, they might feel like the new CBA is designed to stick it to them, and their response might be, "Okay, fine, we'll just make more money and pay you guys less of it, if you all insist."
Why in the name of all that is good and holy would you put Raul Ibanez in Yankee Stadium's left field?
All the upper deck shots in the world aren't going to mask that horse shit. Triple my ass. E8! Oi!
Werewolf.
Hello,
Ya think Bret, or even Andrew Jones would have caught that?
Broken bat rbi triple. Let's see hoe Nova responds.
[27] Blindfolded.
[27] I think Jones at least keeps it in front of him.
Gardner keeps it in front of him and maybe catches it.
Whoops! I meant E7, obviously. Scoring fail. In any case, that ball's got to be caught.
I think Marcus Thames might have caught that.
Eldred has been white hot in AAA -- 13 dingers in 20 games.
Hilarious bobby v story riyank.
How they call that a triple (as opposed to an error) I don't know.
[32] Flash just said that, I believe.
My favorite thing about Nova was just displayed: ice water for blood.
You can't blame Ibanez, he just should never be in the field. Why not have Jones in there?
[32] Its obviously not always the case, but if you're 31 years old and in AAA, you *should* be tearing the cover off the ball.
Kay is the worst story teller I've ever seen.
Mr ok jazz - you know ibanez bats lh and jones bats rh, right? And you know verlander throws rh.
[36] E0 then? (on the Manager?)
[10] The panhandler was not only wearing a yarmulke, he was also wearing a Star of David. Delmon took offense when the Chicago tourists gave the panhandler $25. He assaulted the tourists and chased them into the hotel, where someone called the cops.
Or so says the NY Times.
[39] Mr OK has been attending the Bobby V school of baseball management, set up in Tokyo a few years ago.
[35] I only get the Tiggers feed here. Hens won something like 9 of 10 at one point. Guess which game I went to.
[41] Wait...what?
[39] Sure, but Ibanez already gave up a run with that non-catch. I'll take the glove over the bat in this case, leave the batting up to the big boys.
[41] So Young was upset that the Chicago tourists gave a Jewish panhandler $25? This sounds like the set up to a bad joke..
[42] D'oh!
[42] I'm thinking Bobby spends his time watching games in the reflection of mirrors.
[46] So it seems. The homeless guy didn't approach Delmon, he approached a group of young men from Chicago. Delmon didn't like it when they gave him money.
Young was reportedly extremely drunk. He has since apologized for his behavior, and his lawyer posted bail just after 6pm. So I guess he is theoretically available tonight.
[47] Hm, yeah, could be. That would also explain why some batting averages appear larger than they really are to him.
Yeah, Young was plastered, apparently. The Tigers are a good team for drunks. Here's one now!
I imagine Delmon will get a really big hand if he plays tomorrow, huh?
This isn't good.
1 double play, please.
Ouch..havn't seen Pasta in a while from Jeter..
[52] Low carb diet?
Well, Nova has pitched well enough to have a shutout going. Too bad.
[46] So...a step son of the south ballplayer, viisiting from Motown; after clubbing in Gomorra stumbling through the park; sees a mid american couple from the city of broad shoulders touristing by giving a NY goniff a big $25 tin pan donation. He then_________
Awfully quiet in here all of a sudden.
Nice.
Paul sounds like Woody Harrelson sometimes.
[56] Literally. Right during that homer my mlb.com TV froze!
[58] OMG, yes!! Or is it just that all Mid-Westerners sounds alike? :)
[56] Had to go make pancake batter for the morning.
[55] Good one.
I think the tourists should be reprimanded for giving the panhandler $25 and ruining it for the rest of us. I thought the going rate was pocket change. ;>)
[62] Apparently, Mr. Young agreed with you. ;-)
Putting someone on for Prince is not good.
Exciting!
Do you guys hold your breath every time the ball gets hit to left field, too? It's almost like Little League.
[55] says to the TV reporter, "I don't know what they were thinking about there... maybe that kinda thing plays well in Nepal, but not here."
[62] [63] It's outrageous.
We should go to Chicago and give wads of money to homeless people, that'll teach those Chicagoans. Then we can go to Detroit and derogate an ethnic minority of your choice.
Flash: Weighing your bats, you guys had too much time on your hands.
Paul: It was either talk to Michael Kay in the box or weigh my bats. What would you do?
Flash: Now it's making more sense to me.
Nova is a half step from being great. How can pitching talent like that ever be doubted?
Ian Kennedy was half the pitcher of Nova at 25 years old. I hope Nova has a long Yankee career.
[67] Good one! I am literally laughing out loud. (But I refuse to use that loathsome abbreviation)
Hell yes!
[71] C'mon Boat! OMG, We're BFF, can't we LOL together??
COLTRANE!!!!
Wow. I'm glad I got up to watch this.
[16] [17] See? Told ya.
Dang, everytime I step out of the room, something good happens.
[76] Keep drinking beer. We need to win this one.
[73] Here's a laugh. Young, who was piss drunk, is being investigated for a bias crime, while Zimmerman didn't even get arrested for anything (until the media forced it).
[76] And somehow that's a bad thing? >;)
Kay tricked me. I thought he had that one.
[76] Dare I go make coffee?
[78] NY ≠ Sanford.
Oh, Rob.
[82] Stimmt.
[80] Same. JazzJr heard me get excited and thought it was "another home run, daddy?" "No, Jr. Just Kay misreading the ball again."
[82] How do you make that sign?
[81] Yes.
[82] Thank you.
shit. I guess I shoulda made coffee.
[85] PC or Mac?
[78] I scare myself. I'm thinking in the baseball context; What did Ryan Zimmerman do? I know he is injured and Harper is up to take his place on the Nats.
D'oh.
More IBBs? ため息。。
Another bad play at 2nd by Nunez costs us a run!
Oh... wait...
Zimmerman≻Young;
Harper≈ Zimmerman
[89] Mac.
[84] What does "Stimmt" mean?
[94] Firefox?
No feed. What happened after Cabrera got tagged out at 3rd?
[95] German for "そうですね。"
[96] yes
[98] Comprendo
[99] It's a secret.
Robbie, My Little Pony is rapidly passing you in the best 2B discussion. Time to step it up.
Jeez.... OPS-wise, rightnow, we might have the worst 3-4-5 in baseball.
[85] Just google html entities symbols, or something like that. You get a list of them.
E8. : )
Ra-OOOOOOOL!
In LF... Ibanez II.
Ohferfuck's sake! I did it again! Dammit!
LOL!
Left field seems to be a problem tonight.
[110] Ibanez was thinking, "Man, it's so tough out there, if I can just hit the ball to LF no way he catches it."
That may well the the funniest shit I EVER have seen!
How the hell is he throwing 97mph after 100 pitches?
WTF!
[104] Tanx
Verlander at 102 pitches. Have to think he's gone after the 7th. Yankee batters should make it happen.
Boat: Edit > Special Characters > Mathematical Symbols > {≉} Insert: ≉
[111] It's a Bermuda Triangle.
What do you think a conversation between Clay Rapada and Derek would be like? Just wondering..
[117] I see it now. I never even used that menu. Doh!
[119] Clay -Did you know my name anagrams to Alpaca Farm?
Jeter- Great, Kid. I have 3,100+ hits and sleep with supermodels and actresses.
9 AB left.
Down by 1.
AT Home.
No more Verlander.
Well rested D-Rob and Mo.
This is a game we have to Win.
[121] That's just fucking perfect.
A-Rod:"Hey kid, I know a lot of anagrams too!"
Clay: "Sorry, I'm talking to Derek now."
[113] Three of the last four pitches in his last no-hitter were 100 mph. I don't know how he does it.
Kinda makes you wonder if he could throw 110 mph if he really tried.
These umps can fuck off.
That's 3, maybe 4 calls against us!
These umps can go piss up a fucking rope! Grandy didn't check but the guy last inning did. Fucking Bollocks!
Rip off!
I just realized, this is Country Joe West, the guy we all hate. It figures.
[129] Cripes. That explains it.
I swear, he's still holding a grudge because Joe Torre got him suspended that time.
[130] He definitely hates the Yankees.
[129] Even the Tigers announcers question some of his calls.
Ben-wa balls!
[131] Remember when he called Robby Cano for running outside the line in Game 5 of the ALDS? He wasn't outside. And who calls that anyway??
Fire up the score truck!
[134] Yes. Bullshit. Especially in a play-off game.
All right! Whole new game now.
Soriano in the 9th?
Odd little squibber for Jeter. Nice play. Oh, that Mo is still pretty good, eh.
[138] No So, only Mo.
Let's get 'em, boys!
[140] Sounds like a Manhattan neighborhood.
Let him walk everyone
[142] How I loathe the need to cutely abbreviate the names of neighborhoods in Manhattan and parts of Brooklyn in order for them to sound "hip". Is reading and articulation just too much to deal with for your average young on-the-go urban crusader? Yuck.
As I said, with a little assist
What weird win! I'm happy to take it.
I'll take it
Sweet! Don't see that every night.
Walk off wild pitch.
Way to go, Cap'n.
Too close at the plate.
Now that was satisfying. Fantastic way to waste a morning.
Shot of DJ and A-Rod hugging: priceless.
[150] Yeah, but that's what made it fun.
Take the win, leave the cannolis...
Let's all applaud again! Nice job.
Great ending.
Just put on SD-SF. Giants Stadium really is beautiful! Just says "California". Shame the NYS says "Larger than Starship Enterprise, more expensive than Chanel No.5"
Melky Cabrera with a great throw to 3B to nail a runner. Melky looks slimmed down and serious. Miss that guy.
[156] New York's not the best place for everyone to grow up in. Some guys thrive in outer space (IPK), some get it together when they get kicked out (Melky). To be honest I think it was good to dismiss him; his departure was a wake-up call for Robbie, who started playing up to his potential afterward. Maybe he truly does get it and comes back later like Ruben Sierra, but this time around maybe Melk's got something to come back with.
