Sox of a Different Color

The White Sox are in town for a game-game series, led by our old pal, Robin Ventura. No C.C. this weekend, of course. It’s up to Nova, Hiroki, and Hughes to give the team innings and good ones. Tonight gives Nova. Here’s hoping the Yanks can continue their winning ways.

Oh, he dropped it. Wow. Free run!

8 rbj   ~  Jun 28, 2012 7:29 pm

Got that run back, poised for more.

9 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 28, 2012 7:29 pm

I don't know if Alex would have made it to third but it kills me to see guys jog out of the box like that.

10 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 28, 2012 7:32 pm

Nicely stroked, Robbie!

11 RIYank   ~  Jun 28, 2012 7:35 pm

Fucking shift.

12 RIYank   ~  Jun 28, 2012 7:42 pm

Ivan gets better results than you'd think, just looking.

13 rbj   ~  Jun 28, 2012 7:43 pm

Game is moving fast.

14 RIYank   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:00 pm

[13] That last inning (bottom of sixth plus top of seventh) was ridiculously quick.

15 RIYank   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:01 pm

rbj, are you listening to the ChiSox crew on WGN? That's what I have. Except I turned the sound off.

16 rbj   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:04 pm

You have a glove, use it ball boy.

17 rbj   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:06 pm

[15] I'm so sorry. I have the YES feed. Paulie & Lou are in the booth with Kay.

18 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:08 pm

Man, Lou is useless as an announcer.

19 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:12 pm

[15] You Gone!
[18] Yeah, he's old skool in a bad way. Probably awesome to have beers with but on TV..no.

20 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:13 pm

Critical spot here. Damn Youk...

21 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:14 pm

19) He's the worst thing you can be: boring.

22 rbj   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:15 pm

[19] You sure he hasn't had a few already.

23 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:15 pm

Very poor play by Stewart there.

24 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:19 pm

"I played by the gut but I knew the numbers, Paul."

Now, now, Lou.

25 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:24 pm

Man, this is a tight spot...

26 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:24 pm

Wow, caught him looking. Nice job 38. Way to go!

27 RIYank   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:25 pm

Eppley always looks nervous. Or high strung, something.

Dang, very nice job.

28 rbj   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:25 pm

Yes! Now some insurance please.

29 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:27 pm

Yes! Good Guys get out of the jam!
Can Soriano pitch tonight?

30 RIYank   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:30 pm

[29] I'm praying for The Hammer.

Meanwhile, Phil Coke on for the Tigers trying to keep the Rays down in the eighth. First batter RBI double.

31 rbj   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:31 pm

[29] No. Probably Robertson. From Kay.

32 RIYank   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:32 pm

Shift that.

33 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:32 pm

That's huge. Teix just pokes one. Sweet.

34 rbj   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:37 pm

Dang, go to the bathroom and miss that.

35 RIYank   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:37 pm

Yeah, this is a real Girardi inning.

36 RIYank   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:40 pm

So, why didn't D-Rob just take the whole inning? Is this because Joe doesn't think he can handle it psychologically, or what? Weird. It makes no sense.

37 rbj   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:41 pm

Oh jeez.

38 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:41 pm

HE THREW IT INTO THE OUTFIELD!

39 RIYank   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:41 pm

Unbelievable.
Unbelievable.

ARGH.

Too many fucking moves. No moves, Joe, just D-Rob.

Unbelievable.

40 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:42 pm

Side arming so and so.

41 rbj   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:43 pm

Padres throwing a no no vs. Astros. 6th inning.

42 OldYanksFan   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:44 pm

Shades of 2001!

43 rbj   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:45 pm

Fuck.

44 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:45 pm

Fuck.

45 RIYank   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:45 pm

Unbelievable.

Fuck, this is a fucking Girardi loss. And I hate it when people say that, but it is.

46 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:46 pm

The bed has been shit.

45) Could be. But you know whose loss it really is? Clay fucking Rapada. No excuse not to make that throw.

47 rbj   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:46 pm

win into a loss because you couldn't make an easy throw.

48 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:47 pm

As much as I don't want to see the Yankees lose, part of me is glad Girardi's stupid ass mixing and matching ninth inning strategy bombed. Maybe he won't do it again.

49 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:49 pm

45) But yeah, Girardi gets caught trying to be too cute.

50 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:49 pm

[34] Oh damn. I stepped away and came back to THIS.

Damn.

51 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:51 pm

[49] For the first four years, I honestly never saw a manager outsmart himself more than Joe Girardi. He has been very lucky in that regard this year. I hope it doesn't even out.

52 Jon DeRosa   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:53 pm

The two homers for Robertson this year couldn't have come at much worse times.

53 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:54 pm

This guy has a hairy spaz wind up.

54 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:55 pm

K son, now you've got to swipe second.

55 RIYank   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:55 pm

[52] Trade him!

56 rbj   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:55 pm

A Wise start.

57 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:57 pm

Tough strike one to Chavez.

58 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:59 pm

Dag, what a break.

59 rbj   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:59 pm

Phew missed a double play.

60 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 28, 2012 8:59 pm

Here comes a line drive double play to end it.

61 RIYank   ~  Jun 28, 2012 9:00 pm

Well, I can enjoy a good comedy as well as the next man.

62 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jun 28, 2012 9:00 pm

Andruw Jones ain't nothing to f#ck with..he's going yard here.

63 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 28, 2012 9:01 pm

Jones is toast...

64 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 28, 2012 9:01 pm

Fooled him. Andruw was stuck on stupid right there.

This game is over.

65 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jun 28, 2012 9:02 pm

[62] I stand corrected.

66 rbj   ~  Jun 28, 2012 9:02 pm

not feeling good.

67 RIYank   ~  Jun 28, 2012 9:02 pm

[62] [63] You win this one, Belth.

68 rbj   ~  Jun 28, 2012 9:03 pm

Ugh.

69 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 28, 2012 9:03 pm

Sleep well, Clay, you poor schmuck.

70 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 28, 2012 9:03 pm

Oh well.

Don't do it again Joe.

71 RIYank   ~  Jun 28, 2012 9:03 pm

Ohhhhhhh, that was close.

72 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 28, 2012 9:06 pm

They've been stealing wins lately. Their turn to be jacked. Shame too, cause now Robertson is wasted for tomorrow and a nice start by Nova is sperled.

73 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 28, 2012 9:08 pm

At least the Orioles lost. Rays are down 5-3 in the 9th. Let's hope the Mariners can beat the Sox...

74 OldYanksFan   ~  Jun 28, 2012 9:24 pm

Rapada throws away an easy out.
DRob gives up a HR.
And it's Girardi who lost the game?
Really.... some people need some anger management sessions.

75 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jun 28, 2012 9:26 pm

Tough loss, tough to watch, but for a second there, I thought Jeter pulled it out.

Rapada has feet of clay, and I almost feel badly for him. What should not be forgotten is the pitching performance by Nova. It as if he stepped it up (maybe Andy spoke with him). Nova seemed more mature and focused.

76 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jun 28, 2012 9:33 pm

Jeez, Rapada is nearly in tears taking it like a man in front of the press.

My guess is that he won't throw the ball away again, he'll be back.

77 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 28, 2012 9:34 pm

Yeah, I feel for Rapada. This is a tough one.

Good part is they play again tomorrow. No time to hang their head.

Am I alone in fearing a strong second half from the Red Sox?

78 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jun 28, 2012 9:40 pm

[77] Yeah, the Red Sox look to be the competition. They've won the last few series, and are already charging. I still don't think the O's pitching will last, and the Rays just don't have the offense.

79 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 29, 2012 3:36 am

[74] Other than the manager's near pathological need to PLAY MATCHUPS and some half baked after the fact excuse about an injury concern, why was Rapada even in the game to throw the ball away?
