Does this mean he realized he screwed up by not checking the ingredients/contents of an otherwise legal substance? Or that he took a banned substance? That can make all the difference, right?
Either way, I'm impressed that he just owned up to it. I'll bet the Giants are pissed, though.
I just heard this while driving home in the car. I was surprised how disappointed I was. I always loved Melky when he was on the team. I wasn't that broken up when he left, but was definitely happy to see him have success last year with the Royals and especially this year in San Francisco. I sure wish this hadn't happened.
On the one hand, he probably cost himself a forty to fifty million dollar contract. On the other, perhaps he wouldn't have been in the position to expect a contract like that...
I never liked Melky and wasn't sorry to see him go. Good player but I never thought he was as good as he thought he was. Always seemed like a shithead to me.
I always liked him, and thought he was better than the fourth outfielder label that was slapped on him in NY. I was happy for his success, and felt that it validated my assessment of him as a younger player. Now I think he's a fool, and I'm a dumbass for having believed in him.
[13] Yup. Uptown, downtown, all around town. Being in the Aikido world, I used to know bouncers from different venues. The reports were in. Young and randy.
[16] :) [17] :( [13] We've all chased skirts at one point. Unfortunately in my youth I never caught any. Must be nice to be a young, rich, talented ball player living the NYC life!
Melky has been acting like a complete asshole lately. Now I wonder if it was 'roid rage. Taunting his former teammates, making "suck my dick" gestures to fans and repeatedly pretending to throw them balls and not doing it... I always thought he was dumb and kinda lazy, but not mean like he's been this season.
Oh man. That sucks. Damn shame.
Oh Melky, nooo...
When I was a child, I mixed milk with juice once ... once.
He admitted to taking "a substance I should not have used." (http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/08/15/melky-cabrera-suspended-for-50-games-for-positive-testosterone-test/)

Fug 'im.
Dammit Melky. WTF!

Poor Melky.
bendito. i always liked melky. too bad it went down like this.
I never liked Melky and wasn't sorry to see him go. Good player but I never thought he was as good as he thought he was. Always seemed like a shithead to me.
[9] i thought his early call-up and taste contributed to that demeanor.

I thought his demeanor changed. He seemed gruff during the All-Star game. It took me by surprise. It irked me.
Separating Melky from Cano seemed ideal for Cano's career. They were wild boys, seen around town soaking up the NY thing. That was not sustainable.
12) Those boys had a reputation of chasing skirts up on Dyckman for sure.

Best cynical response I've heard yet came from a friend: "I'm glad he wasn't on my fantasy team."
I'm shocked, SHOCKED this sort of thing could happen in San Francisco.
Sad. Didn't Melky work out with Arod in the off season?
[16] :)
[17] :(

Nothing ... repeat, nothing ... wrong with chasing skirt. But you gotta be über-stupid to think you can get away with this nonsense in MLB 2012.
Guess we know how he was able to hit 300. Shithead status confirmed. Good deal, Cash.
