Dave Phelps in the biggest start of his career. Ellsbury and Pedrioa are back. And I don’t care how poorly Lester has pitched this year, he’s still tough.
It’s wet in New York. Let’s hope they can get this one in.
Never mind the butterflies: Let’s Go Yank-ees!
Interesting, it's been reported that My Little Pony has been shut down with a broken finger:
http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2012/10/pedroia_has_fra.html
In his place is that Ciriaco pest.
[1] & [2] They said he would probably miss the last two games. Now he is giving it a try.
Plus the O's were complaining about the Sox lineup last night. That's the whelp of the beaten cur if you ask me.
Really? Since when do the Sox care what the O's think? Didn't the O's have their way with the Sox just a few days ago while we split a four game series with the Jays? Babies!
[3] Thanks.
[4] Sox need to use these last few games as tryouts.
Actually, in Oakland, one announcer read the Boston lineup to the other announcer 3 times, and then started laughing.
Why the $189m cap in 2014
The threshold will be $189 million for 2014, 2015, and 2016.
The tax rate will increase to 50% for Clubs that exceed the threshold for the fourth time or more.
The Rate will be (15%) the 1st year the threshold is exceeded.
The Rate will be (30%) the 2nd consecutive year the threshold is exceeded.
The Rate will be (40%) the 3rd consecutive year the threshold is exceeded.
The Rate will be (50%) the 4th consecutive year the threshold is exceeded.
The Competitive Balance Tax structure under the 2006 Basic Agreement will be modified so that a team that moves below the threshold will be treated as going over for the first time when it next exceeds the threshold.
MLB bases the luxury tax on the annual average value of contracts for players on the 40-man roster and adds benefits. In 2010, the Yankees' payroll was $215.1 million, while the threshold was million to $170 million
(Tax owed is $45.1m * 40% = $18.4m)
Tell me If I have this right.
Scenerio 'A'
2014: $189m payroll - 0 tax
2015: $215m payroll - $26m over * 15% = $3.9m
2016: $215m payroll - $26m over * 30% = $7.2m
2017: $215m payroll - $26m over * 40% = $10.4m
Paid in Taxes over 4 years: $21.5m
Scenerio 'B'
2014: $215m payroll - $26m over * 50% = $13m
2015: $215m payroll - $26m over * 50% = $13m
2016: $215m payroll - $26m over * 50% = $13m
2017: $215m payroll - $26m over * 50% = $13m
Paid in Taxes over 4 years: $52m
So we save $30m over 4 years by hitting the 2014 cap.
I thought there were other savings, but couldn't find them. Are there?
[3] From ESPN:
NEW YORK -- Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia was in the lineup Tuesday against the New York Yankees despite a broken finger on his left hand that the team thought would sideline him for the final two games of the season.
"I like playing, it's fine," Pedroia told reporters before the game. "Shoot, I get to compete two more games and then I have to sit around six months and wait until I get to do it again. I've got nothing else to do other than play football with a 3-year-old."
[8] If nothing else he's one of the more quotable players in baseball. Laser show indeed.
Blech.
Man, this has not been a good year for the Yankees medical staff.
Bleh.
C'mon Phelps. Jesus fucking Christ.
Goddamit, keep that second fucking run from scoring would ya?
Cody Ross is a long fly waiting to happen.
Hey, Phelps: FAIL.
Yep. That was quick.
You know Lester is going to be sharp tonight, too.
Lame.
That could have gone better
[17] You do, but I don't. You probably haven't watched him a lot...
Way to go Jetes.
Dag, Swish just missed that 2-1 pitch.
20) I defer to you and hope you are right!
C'mon Alex you old hunk o junk.
[23] He's iffy. Downright bad earlier, recently just a decent pitcher.
Of course, he could still pull off an A-game.
sunuva...
Well, that's just fucking swell.
Calling it right here. Yanks ain't winning tonight.
That son of a bitch! Ani infield single. grrrrrrr......
"The Tigers' right-hander [Max Scherzer's] will miss his start in the regular-season finale in Kansas City after twisting it [his ankle] during the on-field celebration of Detroit's AL Central title Monday night."
It seems minor and he's probably OK for the PS, but this is good reason for a manager to BAN 'piling on', 'leaping onto Home Plate', and other unnecessary antics. Who was it last year who broke a leg doing this?
Imagine Cano hitting a HR to clinch the Division, then getting injured during the 'celebration', and missing the PS.
This game is annoying me.
[30] Kendry Morales 2 years ago. Teams were a bit more careful for a bit but the players have short memories and have begun doing stupid shit again.
1 back now. Good.
No base runners for the Orioles through three (Rays batting in the bottom).
I'll take that.
Well how about that. Nuñez. And, Ciriaco.
Through three, Longoria the only human to reach base at the Trop.
Ugh, don't like base runners with Phelps pitching to Ross.
Chris Davis homer, Orioles lead 1-0. Big Game James loses his perfecto, no-no, shutout, on one swing.
Thanks MLP.
Alex is killin' it tonight! 2 for 2 with 2 rockets. Just kidding if you are not watching.
Okay, Teix, get it right this time!!!
Yeah, the Red Sox infield is looking like shit tonight, huh?
A-Rod has two of the funkiest hits you'll ever see.
We really can't afford to lose this game.
Maybe Teixeira should bunt.
The new dog doesn't hide like the old dog when I get pissed. Goddamn Fucking Bollocks, Teix. Fuckin A!
Killin me, Teix.
[10] Aw, that's too bad. And it is odd that they waited so long. He's been on the DL since, what, April?
Phelps is dialed into that inside corner to lefties. Blue isn't having it. Matter of an inch, tops.
Rays leave a man on second in the fourth. Still 1-0 Orioles.
Russell Martin looks at a lot of strikes.
Base hit for Miggy.
The kid is doing his part. Time for the score truck to do some donuts on the wet grass.
Ichiro! Beaut of a bunt.
Okay, this is ridiculous. We have eight fucking hits and one fucking run. I CALL UPON THE SCORE TRUCK.
Ive got to admit. I was real negative on the ichiro trade at the time. But I was wrong.
Damn, let's GO already.
56) HERE HERE
You know, Nick, sometimes a hit is better than a walk.
Okay, that counts.
Now let's score before Teixeira gets a chance to GIDP.
FUCK!
Well the 2 Teix double plays were killers. Make some amends now Gimpy!
Well, at least he has no chance at all to GIDP.
Fucking Alex JUST missed that one, dammit.
Grrrrrrrrrr.
Teix is the RISP Dawg tonight.
So. Frustrated. Worthless fucking weak ground balls 3 at bats in a row.
[65] Sure can't say that about Tesh.
Jesus, Mark, would it kill you not to try and pull *every* fucking pitch???
I think we should just be happy that Jones and McGehee aren't playing. Joe wasn't going to leave them out of the lineup AND hit his hottest hitter in front of righties
A Rod's swing and just miss is so painful. Dammit.
Daniel Nava is one of those feel good stories I just never got.
[70] Yep, happy happy happy happy.
Ecstatic.
Have I ever mentioned how much I fucking hate that waste pitch?
Longoria watches strike three with two on and two out.
Oh fuck me. Here come the matchups.
Uh oh.
Boooooooooooooone!
Girardi's a genius. Nobody knows match-up like Joe knows match-up.
Lester's gone at least 5.1 innings and given up at least 3 earned runs in each of his last 7 starts. LET'S GO ALREADY!
Okay, enough with this shit, already.
Let's go SCORE TRUCK!
[79] Get him a job with a dating site.
2RBI single for Miggy.
For a second I thought the Sox brought in the Sniglets guy.
83) Holy Crap, SNIGLITS.
That's a start, Robbie.
C'mon, Russell!
No chance of Teixeira GIDPing us out of a run, so goddamutherfuckit let's get something going.
Way to cut down on that Hack, Conan.
Welp, down 1-2, will he do anything but whiff here?
Right on Schedule. Good Ol' Curtis.
This is fucking painful.
This wacko could just hit one out.
It's RICH HILL.
OH FOR CHRIST SAKES ITS RICH HILL.
So, if there's a division tiebreaker...do we get to use the expanded roster, or is it like the wild card game, and you set the 25 man before the game?
I guess the boys feel they scored enough last night for 2 games.
NICE
And now...to DRIVE a run home!
Was really hoping for a send there. Rats!
All these runners at third are annoying.
Okay.
Ichiro. Here we go, baby.
Squeeze
Nunez! Now we'll waste 2RISP.
ooh. for a second there....
Wild Card, here we come.
Nope.
My bad guys, I wasn't sure of what to do so I sent the Score Truck down to Tampa to help the Rays out, then I changed my mind and called for it to come back. It broke down somewhere around North Carolina.
Mother FUCKER. And now, Joba to allow in some more runs.
Right on the botton. Right at snozzberry. Oi! I can't take this.
No one can hit fucking Rich Hill now.
Yeah, Joe, its not funny. Its a big part your fault that this division is up for grabs.
[110] To be fair, they had two hits and sounds like Ichiro hit it sharp.
Throw. A. Strike. You fat cunt.
Shields through 8 in Tampa, just one run allowed.
Beyond fucking sick of Joba Chamberlain.
[114] Just two hits. But one of them over the fence.
I think Joba's getting fatter before our eyes.
He's so deliberate.
You KNOW this run is coming round to score.
Thanks for letting us know how much Joba sucks at holding runners Cone. Has someone on the coaching staff let him know this for fuck's sake?
1 more pin Rodney. Hey, Joe, why don't you take this lumbering bitch out of the game, here, huh?
Upper Deck, here we go.
2 run job?
Not sure if anyone has heard this little statistic, but Baltimore has not lost a single game this season when leading after 7 innings.
Can you believe that? Isn't that impressive? They really have not lost a single game when leading after 7 innings.
Incredible.
How shit must you be to have Sam Fuld hit for you?
Good 2-0 slider.
Another decent slider, not as good as the first one. Don't get too cute here, now, Meat.
4 hits total in TB, 1-0 after 8.
He's starting to look like Jackie Gleason.
Way to go Fat Man.
Well, good on Joba!
Girardi's a genius. Joba is unhittable.
Anyone think TB is playing their hardest?
[128] Well, it's not "after 8" yet. Unless you meant 8:00.
Okay, now it's after 8.
Fuck, the Rays are really going to be shut-out when Shields holds the stinking birds to one run???
2 runs, 3 innings. This can be done.
The Yankees are bound to score more than 1 run, right? Right.
This reliever is pretty good.
[137] It's a nice theory....
Damn.
[138] I think he's their best relief pitcher.
We need 3 walks and a balk.
If we fall back into a tie, we really need to look back at this road trip, including the two horrifically managed games in Minnesota and Toronto.
[141] Oh by far. 1.50 ERA. A true relief ace.
Slick play.
Shields gets his 13th K. Great game, but losing.
[146] 15
Alex is cooked here. Ready for the whiff?
... and that's 14 for Shields.
Let's see some walk-off action in Tampa now.
Rays up with 3 outs to go....
[147] Oh, I missed one, wow.
There it is.
I cant believe this fucking team is gonna blow this.
One goddamn poor inning from Phelps and 10 hits with run. sigh.... BIG FUCKING SIGH!
One out BB for TB....
Four pitch walk for Zobrist, with one out: Longoria up...
[156] Slow slow slowslowslow!
2 outs
Jeez, Longoria missed a fat pitch, too.
Orioles win
D-Rob is hammering.
O's win.
Okay, up to us after all. Can't believe Tampa got shut out.
Mark, please. Get on base.
if the Yankees can pull out a win, the day is still a positive.
[164] Who are you, and what have you done with Mattpat?
FAIL.
So glad Teixeria was able to make it back.
Cano is just going to have to put one in the seats and get it over with.
[165] Its better than sitting here and thinking of all the horrendous losses that could have prevented this.
This is Craig Breslow. He is actually worse than Rich Hill.
This is so fucking deflating.
I really hate this team.
Oh fer....
Craig Breslow can barely throw three pitches in the strike zone. He's terrible. For god's sake somebody do something.
Another runner to strand? Or the tying run? Curtis, we turn our desperate eyes to you.
Okay, well, that's somebody doing something.
I hope Curtis takes some pitches.
Like that one, shoulda.
What good would it do for him to steal? Grandy doesn't get singles.
And here comes yet another whiff...
Any reason in particular Gardner is in there?
Oh, good. A play. Excellent. I love plays.
Oh, this is just too rich.
To do that, I guess
You have got to be fucking kidding me.
Incredible.
Breslow was going to walk Curtis. I don't think he threw one pitch in the zone.
He's just terrible -- you don't need a fucking play.
Does anyone have any fucking faith in this team?
Yankees just texted me to turn this shitshow of a game on.
Probably their most pathetic effort in the most important game of the year.
I've never been the Gardner fan that most seem to be. He's always doing stupid shit on the bases, or so it seems.
[188] And there we go.
I have better things to do than watch this team piss away the division against one of the worst teams in baseball. Bye.
I like Gardner, but it's not the right call, esp. against a lefty pitcher.
Couldn't get any worse, could it?
I mean, James Loney.
Yeah, we don't miss Mo.
Fuck this Fucking Game.
The only team without a win all season when trailing after 8. That could change in the 2nd to last game of the year.
This would be a great inning to have that problem where the Yanks hit too many homers.
Not dead yet.
Now, NO PLAYS.
Come on Raul.
LEON!!!!!
I DON"T FUKCKING BELIEVE IT!!!!!
Speechless.
YEAH!!!!!!!
Hell yes!
[202] Remind me why he's Leon.
lets end it here in the 9th!!!
We'll take a walk here, Derek.
[206] Blade Runner
I jussssst looked into Gameday, what a start!
This game is nerve-wracking.
Heck, this month is nerve-wracking. Kinda reminds me of 2005.
Captain!!!!
Or that.
C'mon, Swish!
[209] Oh, he looks like the replicant? I must have missed an important banter session.
He'll walk Swish. Yeah, there it is. Of course, why wouldn't you?
Now let's see Alex draw a walk, that would be cool...
Night of the fight, you might feel a slight sting. That's pride fuckin' with you. Fuck pride! Pride only hurts, it never helps. You fight through that shit. C'mon, Alex!
Not even close to a strike.
Turn him loose on 3-1 of course, right?
Oh, my Mo! Teix again. Wild pitch! : )
Gotta hit for Tex here, right? I don't trust him...
Don't slide into first this time, Teix!
Oh boy. Here we go!
Well look at that. Mark Melancon. Our old friend.
[221] Argh, I had forgotten that one. Ouch. Yikes.
I'm not even going to write it, but if you-know-what happens here, I'm going to be very cross at a certain loaf-pinching mouth-breather.
Ha. Mark Melancon.
Just a fly ball...
Maybe he walks...
Is Mattpat still here to watch this team piss away the division against one of the worst teams in baseball?
[228] This is what I'm thinking, too. Melancon can't throw it over the middle...
Dancin' Melancon.
Good job, Mark. You hit almost 130 feet. FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCK!!!!!
Well, at least you didn't GiDP again Tesh, so you've got that going for you.
In any case, I think RIPPER sends us home happy, right now.
A HISTORICALLY bad day for Teix. Comes up with 8 men on base and causes7 outs.
I would've pinch hit. I really would've. Screw his feelings.
I give him the take sign until there are 2 strikes.
[234] If he really came up with eight men on base, that would be historic.
But, yeah, horrible. Even one routine fly from him and we win. Would have won.
But perhaps will still...
....
sigh.
ugh.
Well, now I'm pessimistic again.
Nice game Teixeria you POS.
Happy bar trade.
Brutal.
basses loaded and they couldn't get it done? big ouch!!
Teixeira could have won the game just by dribbling that little dribble crap that Robinson just dribbled.
Fuck.
But, we're going to win. The Sox have no pitchers left.
Why can't the Yankees take a gift once in a while this year?
bastards.
[245] You said it bruddah.
One.
Got to get Pedroia here.
Raul.............
April OPS: .745
May OPS:: .946
June OPS: .515
July OPS:: .825
Aug OPS:: .618
Sep OPS:: .802
19 HRs, 61 RBI
The guy has had some REALLY big Hits for us.
Nice breaking ball. Now finish him.
Tex canNOT bat fourth tomorrow or the PS (which could be one game).
If the Yankees don't win, someone will need to watch over him tonight.
No, don't walk him. Finish him. Let's go. Hang in there, Sori.
No walks. Outs.
Oh, man, terrible walk.
Oh you're kidding. Are you kidding? Fuck that pony.
Dude, Sori got away with one there to Nava.
Hm, Rapada and Lowe. I would have thought Fred.
The Yanks have 6 starters with as many or more HRs than doubles. That's kinda rare, ain't it?
Nice. One more, Sori. Bear down.
Mistake pitch for the K.
Attaboy.
Two. One more, Rafi.
Gotta be careful with this dude.
Don't fall too much in love with the slider, man.
"But, we're going to win. The Sox have no pitchers left."
Yeah... and meanwhile, the pitchers we have left are ________ ?
How about Andy?
Now, finish him...but be careful not to hang the slider, Hoss.
I don't think Pony can steal, actually. His hurt forehoof would prevent him from sliding.
[266] Well, Soriano. Rapada and Lowe are next up, apparently.
But I want Fred if we can't score in the tenth.
[266] At this point, you gotta save him for the potential playoff game with the O's.
Good. Nicely done, Sori.
Yikes. I thought Alex's throw was going to float into the 10th row.
[270] Seems right. Although, just an inning from him might mean the difference between having to play that game and not having to play it. So I dunno.
Orioles won 1-0?? Damn..late to all the night's action.
I would just like to point out that Sox fans* are quite a bit less confident than we are right now.
*Just for the sake of argument, assume there are still some watching.
This means a Cervelli sighting if it goes on...
Hey Chavez batting for Stewart. That means we'll see Cervelli if the Yanks don't score. Nice that we have to resort to that in the 161st game of the year.
[276] Yike, true.
Andrew Miller up in the visitor bullpen.
Another whiff.
Holy fuck, Curtis. Wow.
Only D-Lowe warming up for us. Interesting. Not Fred???
[280] Groundballs >>>>>> Taters
[281] That was apparently Teixeira's theory this evening.
Oh, my heart beat just a little faster on that one.
Oy. Okay, this one goes to eleven.
[283] Teix may have one more chance to choke in the 11th.
Always be looking forward...but the 9th, bases loaded one out, just a little dribbler, or a 250 foot fly ball to win the game. Sheesh.
Christ.... Lowe has a .312 BAA.
Wouldn't someone from AAA be better???
Let's turn two.
all these left handed hitters against Lowe?
That's one.
Terrible.
Teix always tries hard..can't fault him for being hurt. JoeyJoeJoe has to sit him if he can't generate any power...
Fuck Loney. Fuck Salty. Goddamn it!
Go get him, Lowe.
2 down. good pitch.
Nice. Two down, one to go. A Cervelli fist pump.
Oh, why did it have to be this guy? Ha! They're walking him.
Oh, shit. #77. That miserable fuckstain. IBB. Oh, boy.
[291] It's not power. He just doesn't hit the ball square.
Ugh, I don't like this. With Derek Lowe pitching I don't want an IBB there, not smart. (Because he could very easily walk Iglesias.)
Nice. Now, let's end this shit.
Aardsma, Nova, Eppley, Wade, Rapada and Warren left?
Whoo-hoo.. Now win this Mo Damn Thing!
Huh, I guess you guys like the IBB?
And it works out.
Hmmmmm. Why not Podsednik there? Odd PH choice by Valentine.
LET'S WIN THIS FUCKER!
Preferably on a Teixeira bomb.
Podsednik may not be available.
Teixeira's old pal.
Wonder if thelarmis is listening...
LET'S GO YANK-EES!!!
The human BP machine. We MUST get to this guy.
Damn!
[304] I'm on Gameday, is Padilla sweating buckets even in the 60degree temp? Really frightening looking dude..
[303] I saw Podsednik with a bat in his hands earlier.
That was ball four.
Crud, that was ball four.
Okay. Make it hap'n, Cap'n.
Dammit.
Who will swing the hardest?
Swish, ARod, Cano, Teix or Grandy?
Let's go ALEX!
NICE AB by Swish!
Great hit from Swisher.
ARod is simply NOT on pitches.
Oh, fucking Ellsbury. Fucking Ellsbury. 399.
@#$%@#$%^@#%#$%@#%^$@#%@#!$%@#!
Arod 2012...
Damn! 400' out. Thought that was it, Shitfuck!
[319] Hm, yeah, good call there, hoss.
Ellsbury must have been playing deep in the gap to get that. That got out there fast.
Now the Sox will score.
Can't. Walk. Him. Dammit.
Got under it. Phew.
Strikes, Derek, strikes.
Now, put him away.
[325] All geared up for something that isn't 55 mph. Bring back those hands. Stay back and Boom. Liner into left. Good stuff. : )
Don't try to field the ball, dickhead.
Oh frick, D-Lowe, you know better than that. Jeez.
That was an easy out for Cano. Jesus H. CHRIST.
Fukcin bird.
Poor little guy.
Well, there's another thing you don't see every day. Bird delay.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!
Tex is up against his buddy in the bottom of the 12th. END IT TEX END IT!!
Okay. Whew. Very easy peasy, good job Derek and Derek.
Dear Teix.
Don't suck.
-me
Yeah and the bird doesn't seem to be doing too hot. And that grounds crew dude didn't exactly have a light touch with him did he?
[338] Awesome. Great drama.
You know Padilla wants to hit him. You know it.
So now spelling F U K C I N (just like that) has to wait for moderation?
Wonder if they bring in the lefty or they let the two enemies face each other.
That was Alison Steele, the Nightbird.
Oh, Andrew Miller. Probably just as well.
What happened to the bird? and what's all this David Cone "Ichiro's chopticks" on twitter?
Feel so lonely with only Gameday on..
Slide, Teix! WTF???
No, never mind that.
Hey, a Teixeira ground out. What do you know?
[344] That's me. [203]
END IT CANO END IT!!
Dag, Cano had a good pass at that first pitch.
Had a good pass at the second one too. Now, Miller will go off speed outside...
Whoops. Meant [345] C'mon, Cano!
[349] There was a sparrow fluttering around the field, kind of wounded, and an oafish young member of the ground crew chased it around with a PVC bucket, ineptly, for about two minutes.
No idea about Coney on Ichiro. I'm watching the NESN feed.
Sigh.
Frankie, with no possibility of a PH.
Looking forward to the bottom of the 13th...
Oh, Frankie.
[357] Thanks.
I'm getting hungry but can't leave the game..oh Cervelli is up, so we'll go to the 13th.
Oh, Frankie, shoulda swung at that!!!
We're going to the 13th...
Maybe Miller will walk him. Maybe. Please?
Good takes.
He walked him! Hey Frankie!
Not so fast. Nice job, kid.
Pretty sad that Cervelli puts together a better at bat than most of the team is capable of right now.
Now what would happen if Brains pulls a muscle running the bases...who would catch?
Turn Curtis loose on 3-0, right? I say do it!
Interesting.
[368] Girardi.
C'mon Raul. A single will do. More than do.
"Remember when Bobby Boucher showed up at halftime and the Mud Dogs won the Bourbon Bowl? Do ya?"
"Remember when Evil Empire showed up in the 12th and the Yanks won the Division? Do ya?"
YAYAYAYAYAY
[368] I'm reading Ibanez actually is....
OH YES BABY FUCK YES!!!!!!
HOT FUCKING DAMN!!!!!! DINO!!!!!!
Cervelli!!!!
Cervelli for POTG!
Nice Slide Frankie!!!!!!!!
I've noticed that when I make rash, general statements about how much the Yankees suck, they tend to win.
RAUUUUUUULLLL
Double HERO tonight!
LEON!!!
FRANKIE BRAINS!!!
Good luck charm, Cervelli scores one of the biggest runs of the year.
OH HELL YES!
Thought that was a routine grounder to short off the bat. WOW!
Frankie Brains!
[384] I've always had an irrational liking of Cervelli, as have many of us. Chris Stewart just doesn't do it for me...
Wow, Raul, you are the MAN, son. Thank you, thank you.
wow. Epic night in the Bronx.
Let's hope that's the last of the 2012 slopp-ass play for the Yankees. ugh.
[381] I knew you were still here!
YAyyyyYYYYYY!
Guess its never too late to win one after trailing after 8 - wonder if ANY team ever went through a whole season without at least one such comeback win.
JUST DON'T ASK HIM ABOUT HIS MOTHER!
388) Yeah, I'm with you. Plus, my wife Emily loves him.
Damn, for the first time ever, I kinda miss AJ
lets all shave our heads to look like Raul!!
You know, Derek Lowe has been a pretty good pick-up actually. He had a God-awful stretch but has otherwise been very solid.
[373] I always will.
This would be a funny game thread to re-read. All the sound and fury signifying nothing. LOL. GUILTY. And happy.
Raul with the Win!
Brains with the Save!
[391] Lurking in the shadows. :)
Storming off led them to tie it, so I figured I'd stay quiet.
I can be very superstitious.
[384], [388] Maybe that's what the Yankees have been missing all year. Someone who just loves to play the game, any opportunity, would play for free...remember when that was Joba?
Mattpat, I'm giving you a Win Share for this game. If you had stayed here at Banter, no possible the way the Yankees could have won.
Just win tomorrow, baby.
And now our attention turns to a Banter favorite: Hiroki Kuroda. He hasn't been awesome lately. Biggest start as a Yankee is tomorrow. We'll be here, baby!
Win tomorrow and the division title is captured.
Can Dice-K summon some of that Koshien magic from years back? Can the BoSox show some pride and defeat their big rival? Will Bobby V pull out the mustache & glasses in his final game?
I will be watching!
I don't know if it's Great or if it's Sad that our scrubs often come up with the big play.
It's true that D-Lowe was a decent pick-up, but Ibañez, holy Mo. What a signing. Damn.
Wow, what a game, wouldn't have missed it. I wish thelarmis could have hung with us.
Wow, Kuroda against Dice-K, yeah. Man.
We're going to need both Mr. OK and Boatzilla for this one.
It unbelieveable, but this is a 94 Win club.
[410] 95 wouldn't be so bad...
[398] thanks RIYank. May, I hit that "post comment" and there was a seeing-eye base hit.
I've got buddies in Bal'mer bitching about the Sox laying down for the Yanks...such short memories.
man not may
It that the first game we've Won trailing after 8?
414) And not a moment too soon! LOL.
High fives to all you Yankee lovin' motherfuckers!!!!!
[414] Yes. [197] ; )
[412] I think there's a lot of mojo to go around this time. Belth has to get a little credit, too -- his extreme pessimism gives the team a boost, no doubt in my mind. And Mattpat storming out of the room.
Yeah, you would think the Baltimore fans would realize that the Sox just suck. (Peter Schmuck wrote a good column about this today.) Anyway, can't complain about them laying down tonight.
Red Sox postgame analyst, guy named Curren, just called the long shot of the GW, the "Brooklyn Bridge". Yeah, I'm watching the NESN post-game show. But I should call it quite.
High five, Belth, and nice job!
I should call it "quite", apparently. But I'm going to call it quits instead.
[407] For some reason I was thinking about Sojo and Jose Vizcaino today. Remember the knocks those guys had in the 2000 World Series?
It's part of what makes baseball great. Sure, once in a while a John Paxson will hit a big shot, but usually it's the superstars in the NBA.
Our bench: Ibanez, Chavez and Ichiro have literally saved this season. We are not in the PS without them.
Everyone remember how 'happy' we were when Cashman signed Ibanez?
I think Mattpat's head exploded.
Thanks Raul, Thanks Cervelli, Thanks Phelps, Thanks AB. Goodnight.
Hey... that's right. Gotta give Phelps some love.
418) A true Bronx Cheer! But it worked as "motivation"!
What's notable about the Ibanez signing is that they picked him over what? Matsui, Damon, Vlad? Guess they picked right.
423) Yes, Phelps was really solid again. Good job by Boone and Joba, Robertson and Sori after that dinger, in his longest outing of the year, and of course D Lowe. I didn't want to mess with jinxes and whatnot but I'm sure all Red Sox fans knew the Yanks would win the game and Lowe would be the winning pitcher once he stepped on the mound.
[409]I'll be watching, but may not be typing much. I will likely be in the hospital waiting room. Nothing serious.
I predict Ichiro will have a big game. He always seems to hit Japanese pitchers well. Or is that just my imagination....runnin' away with me...
[426] お大事に, Boat. Hope it goes well.
I'll be on the Banter for sure, this one will be on national TV most likely with Dice-K vs Kuroda.
got 880 clearer than usual tonight and got to hear the whole postgame show on my way home from work.
wish i could've followed along with you guys. i set the dvr for tomorrow night's game (espn) and hope to come home to see a victory for division and top seed!
GO YANKS!!!
