The reviewer pretty much nailed what this movie is: "a generous and vibrant series of confrontations and fights, all garnished with wisecracks of startling pungency."
I thought the movie had some funny moments, but I found the dialog contrived, and was disappointed by Albert Brooks' scenes. It seemed like he was playing a Barbra Streisand in 'The Fockers' version of himself.
A better overall comedy for the 'Oh shit, I'm 40 already?!' set is "Friends with Kids." This one has a better script, and doesn't try as hard to be funny. Both of these movies have Megan Fox, so, of course, they're both recommended.
Another one I recently saw was "Silver Linings Playbook" which was terrific. More drama than comedy, good story, and excellent performances. Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence were outstanding, and Jacqui Weaver playing Cooper's mom, opposite his Dad, Robert DeNiro was perfect. I thought she stole every scene she was in.
On the comedy front, I also highly recommend: Moonrise Kingdom.
Beauiful looking film by Wes Anderson. It's colorful, quirky and silly even by his standards, but it's also I think his most charmimg film.
The love-story of the two outcast/offbeat kids who run off together is fun and believable, and the performances by the heavyweights: Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Edward Norton, and Bruce Willis - are understated, and thoroughly enjoyable.
I don't care for Wes Anderson's movies but this one I'd really like to see. Thanks on the note on "Silver Linings Playbook." That director handles chaos and humor well.
I am not a Wes Anderson fan, but I must concur, Moonrise Kingdom was a gem. It was visual appealing, humoristically dry and as Sliced said, charming. It also had a nostalgic quality to those of use raised in that color scheme.
Silver Linings Playbook is supposed to be great. As a chick, I have no problem staring at Bradley Cooper for two hours. I hear Jennifer Lawrence is flawless. I like her.

She's juicy.
