Tarragon reminds me of visiting my grandparents in Belgium when I was a kid. That explains why I’m partial to it. It’s a strong flavor–the anise vibe isn’t for everyone–but works well with carrots, asparagus, artichokes, eggs, and chicken.

Mustard, ketchup, relish, onions, kraut, chili…how do you like your dog? I’ve tried the Chicago-style dogs and think they’re great.
Usually, though, I’ll just go with mustard, though I can also do relish or, if I’m feeling particularly brave, onions. Ketchup, never. But The Wife always puts ketchup (and mustard) on hers, so go figure.
The Wife doesn’t like for me to make a fuss on Valentine’s Day. She thinks it’s a lame commercial holiday and hates the idea of me buying her marked-up flowers or expensive Jacques Torres chocolates. However, if I want to get her some budget Russell Stover budget chocolates, she’s cool with that. She’s a cheap date, what can I say?

How much is too much to spend on a pie? Is $35 bucks too much?
Yes, schmuck, it is. At least, the wife sure thinks so and she ragged on me all weekend for forking over that much for a salted caramel apple pie at Four and Twenty Blackbirds. We were out in Brooklyn on Saturday visiting cousins and I’ve always wanted to try this place so on our way back home I bought a whole pie.
Was it worth it? As a treat, yes. The pie is damn good. Dumb expensive but good. Not the best pie I’ve ever had but I’d rate it 8 out of 10 for sure. I got a slice of chocolate pecan pie for the wife who stopped busting my chops momentarily as she ate.
Stocking Stuffer: Bomba Calabrese. So worth it.
All about cured meats. Food 52, again and again.
I haven’t had a bagel in a minute but every once in a while I really get a craving for one. Know what I mean?
I like mine with butter, plain or a sesame, though I could get nuts and do onion or one of them crazy “everything” bagels. Sometimes with a few slices of tomato.

My new favorite thing: Calabrian Chilies in oil. Some heat but flavor like you wouldn’t believe.
